  1. Honestly, mage dks is probably an easier way to turn a tidy profit and still get decent mage xp (just get a void mace if you don't have one). For mining, surprisingly granite (at least used to) make a tidy profit if you banked just the larger pieces (its also pretty damned good mining xp). Once you start hitting the higher levels (and have members) you can start using concentrated ores which really speed things up.
  2. Iirc slayer is still profitable, though its been awhile since I've played (I'd also look into raising your summoning to 68 and going to dks)
  3. Is anyone else having trouble using the tif irc?
  4. Is anyone else following the US presidential campaign. I for one find the republican debate(s) to be... entertaining. Honestly it kind of seems like the republicans will nominate Romney and Perry (well if they stick with the moderate/ tea party/conservative divide) thus ensuring a reelection of Obama. EDIT: Oh god, Cain is [bleep]ing hilarious to listen to (well the [cabbage] he says anyways).
  5. I won't be able to make next session, as I have to go to a funeral/wake/whateveryoucallamemorialforsomeonewhodoesn'twantareligiousfuneral for my grandfather. Arch can have control over my character (look over the sheet/equipment and then formulate a plan), but I would prefer if he tried to do things diplomatically if at all possible, seeing as it wold be easier to use a ship if manned by mindless thralls if we get the pirates to go with us.
  6. I'm unfamiliar with DRYH, and I'm debating between running DH and Dresden Files FATE for my first set of one shots. It would depend upon if people would be willing to read some background fluff for the dresden files adaptation of FATE, as well as if they were willing to learn the rules a bit on their own in around 2 weeks.
  7. So you haven't read something and know little to nothing about it, but you feel certain that it is always very slow moving and know, not just suspect but know that it has a [cabbage] tonne of rules which definitely cannot be learnt and or sidelined, nope definitely not a possibility. And then we get to the point that DND IS NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE THE BASELINE, GENERIC GAME. It is in 3.X form very good at doing vancian style fantasy. It is not, however that good at doing other styles of fantasy and magic, or hell even social combat is handled in better ways in quite a few systems. While I agree that PF/3.X can be a bit clunky (especially in combat), they should not be taken as a baseline for all PnP rpgs, or hell even most. That's part of the reason why I'm trying to start up the shifting GM/system one shots by the way, to show different ways to handle rpgs (many of which are better, in my opinion to how PF/3.X handles it).
  8. It's too slow and tedious, same reason I don't enjoy chess or any other board game. In DnD you can take an hour to do the same stuff you could do in 10 minutes in Dungeoneering, and no, that's not due to overpowering but rather common sense and good modding outranking that little piece of unnecessary realism. My mind is running on constant overclock, idleness and repetition is torture, I need constant stimuli. I'm becoming increasingly certain that you have never actually played an rpg with an open rules system (for instance dungeoneering was basically whatever the [bleep] the mod felt like doing) which generally have this because it is [bleep]ing irritating/draining to adjudicate every little god damned thing because someone doesn't like their specific idea of fun (where they will eschew mechanic that give moderate realism and then debate for [bleep]ing hours how specific examples of how realism in physics that would benefit them greatly should be allowed) to be slightly interrupted. Hell, if I recall correctly you haven't even read through a single game book, and would far rather complain about it. We understand your point, no one is forcing you to play; if you want anyone to run a dungeoneering esque game run it yourself (with a concept you can get your player base involved with, not everyone likes star gate) . Lei, if you want to run something on irc, I advise using google docs to show maps, or maptools. If you're using a pre existing system (which I strongly recommend) I would advise reading through the one shot adventures they have out for free, to see how the game is paced/played.
  9. The systems would be hypothetical. Ideally each GM would run a system that they were familiar with and is relatively unknown in the tavern (ex; FATE for me, danse macabre for you, etc.) or they could just continue on with the same system if they like it.
  10. Any specifics on what the One shots will consist of, and will you be using the rotating Gm idea? The rotating GM idea is, rather than use a consistent plot each GM would run a one shot adventure or two in a single system, and then switch to the next GM who would run (probably) completely unconnected one shots in a (possibly) different system. Lets say I start out with ye olde dungeon crawl in AD&D with premade characters, I continue on that route for two more weeks and then someone else takes over (lets say Retech) Retech runs a couple of one shots in 3.X/Pathfinder and then icu takes over, he stays with pathfinder until arch takes over who switches to a small plot of Danse Macabre who then hands the baton over to whoever else. It would be a cool way to learn new systems and get some more games going. EDIT: I'd like to run a couple of one shots in FATE, though the iteration I am most familiar with is the dresden files rpg. The problem is that I do not know how many people here have read the dresden files (which if they hadn't would necessitate reading around 20 pages of background fluff on the world/different types of nasties in it)
  11. I'd be willing to start the one shots on saturday on the 22nd (Next saturday I have to go to a funeral, and the 15th is the PSAT) so that would help a bit with the lack of games. Also lei, http://www.livejournal.com/
  12. Opinions my good man, have you looked over the proposal for the Saturday 1 shots? Its on the mid to low second to last page (Page 592). If so, would you be interested in the idea of rotating GMs each doing a couple of one shots (maybe rotating weekly if they keep the system the same).
  13. How's college going? (Seriously, I want to know, I'd like to know how difficult the average US university is)
  14. Obviously not, look at human history; much of it is "STOP LIKING/WORSHIPING WHAT I DON'T LIKE/WORSHIP" Mather was being... mather. I believe there were two camps on that matter (hehe). 1. Actually cared and tried to talk him down. 2. Told him to [cabbage] or get off the can.
  15. It just feels like he's deliberately insulting a favourite comic of mine, which bugs me. And his arguments against it aren't even good ones beyond simple personal preference. I'd rather he just say 'I don't like it' rather than saying 'I HAVEN'T READ IT MUCH AT ALL BUT HERE ARE ALL THE THINGS HORRIBLY WRONG WITH IT.' EDIT: Also, Archi did that already. First off, its a comic. A web comic at that. Secondly, I'm not insulting it, I'm pointing out perceived flaws in it that make it unappealing to me. There's a difference. Thirdly, while I don't hold webcomics to high literary standards by any stretch of the imagination, I simply couldn't find the characters interesting or engaging. Again, perceived flaw that makes it uninteresting to me. I got up to a certain point (I believe the almost-dragon-rape bit) before I simply decided that it was not enjoyable and said "[bleep] it, I'm reading GwtB."

[/hide] backstory [hide] Martel, the fifth scion of house Richelieu (a house known for its good fortune, or at least the extreme misfortune of their enemies was never going to get a scrap of inheritance from his siblings, so he went into government work. His rise in ranking was astronomical, matched only in the downfall of those above him, and the rise of several highly devoted allies. This rise caught the attention of several of the more higher ranking officials, who pulled a few strings and suggested (with clubs) that Martel take a break from service and serve the king as a representative in the adventurers. With his "allies" being dealt with through many sundry means, Martel had little choice but to accept. [/hide]
  17. *Sigh* How long ago...? I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that's not really true... Let's see here... two slightly weird, but not explicit, scenes between the dragon creep and the main character, the first of which is immediately stopped by Vaelia, the second of which results in the creepy guy quickly getting clawed apart by the high sorcery of the main character and then killed by a demon. Aside from that... One scene involving godiva hair and info dump text bubbles obscuring a bath scene between two perfectly normal adult characters (only chapter I particularly dislike). Second, there is nothing wrong with Drow as opposed to humans as the primary race in fiction... They are the focus of the story after all. The two times they come into conflict with other races... lemme think... One was the Drow equivalent of SEAL Team Six breaking into a human stronghold in a surprise night-attack, taking out the elderly monarch, and retreating. The other was a small group of free dwarves attacking what they thought was a caravan violating passage laws, and instead managing to torch a few carriages belonging to a mobilized ARMY. I've never seen so much complaining about mild plot armor and a single character who gets killed with comparatively little screentime. I was actually talking about the drow being the only race able to utilize SUPER SPECIAL PLOT DEVICE MAGIC that and humans as well as pretty much any non drow being treated as barely sentient slave races or TOTALLY EVIL AND NOT LEGITIMATELY PISSED OFF BECAUSE THE DROW ARE A BUNCH OF CONDESCENDING PRICKS. The fact that one race is so incredibly over powered (and is the protagonist race) makes for a very very boring story for me. That and I don't like the drawing style of the artist (and the fact that he/she/it goes into soft core porn in the members only sections).
  18. Caps LOCK! Anywho, explain further. I don't know what this One Shot idea is mostly. If it's a page back, I must have missed it. *goes back a page or two to check* Rather than putting a burden on one tavern member to create a campaign, they would create probably a session's worth of action with possibly premade characters. Each GM would run one or three different one shot adventures with a specific system. Then, before they got burnt out they would switch out of the GM chair for another tavernite and the cycle would repeat itself. The system could change with GMs or be kept the same, whatever the current gm's preference is. EDIT: Retech, most all are available online. Hell, you probably wouldn't even need to make maps, just spreasheets using google docs to act as the battle map. Sounds interesting. Are you planning to be the first GM? Unless anyone else wants to, yes. If there's a positive response I'll decide on a system (I might just run a pathfinder one shot at first to be honest, either that or FATE/ Dark heresy). Well then it looks like I'm going to have to learn the Pathfinder system, then. TO THE WIKI! Either Pathfinder or Dark Heresy. Unless anyone has great objections to that system I'll just pull off some of the [cabbage] I put my DH group through. Think dungeons of gygaxian levels/styles of traps.

  21. SO GUYS, ABOUT THAT ONE SHOT IDEA. WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN IT? ROTATING GMS/SYSTEMS WITH ONE SHOTS (WHIMSY IS OPTIONAL BUT ENCOURAGED). DOES THAT SOUND INTERESTING? (HELL, IT MAY GET SOME MORE GMS TO COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK).
  22. Thank you vixion. Lei, you are in precisely no position to call anyone on this forum kiddo. Oh and see previous suggestion about getting a damned live journal or some such. If you want to come back to it bookmark it/ set it as your homepage. Don't bring that [cabbage] to the tavern. Nex, I read drowtails for a bit and quite frankly I was unimpressed. The fact that a fair bit of it seemed to be softcore pornography (like the quasi dragon rape scene) wasn't the only reason though. The main reason why was the whole "DROW ARE LIKE TOTALLY SUPERIOR TO ALL OF THOSE STUPID HUMANS, RIGHT GUIZE. THEY ARE LIKE SMARTER, STRONGER AND JUST PLAIN BETTER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE. WHAT? YOU THINK THIS IS BORING? [bleep] YOU [bleep] HAVE SOME [cabbage] AMBER! EDIT: Anyone interested in the one shot idea (maybe on saturday(s)) with different people GMing different systems (maybe one person GMs Dark Heresy or something for a week or two of one shots, then the next GMs burning wheel rpg, repeat as necessary.)
  23. Yeah, I try doing what I can to actually have a game running in the Tavern, but there is only so much that I can do with my schedule, especially while using a D&D type game system (one of the few things that 4e did right was to cut back on the overhead of running combat encounters by simplifing high level character creation.) If the Taverners could start compromising a bit more in how they play games it would be possible for others to start up games that could be atleast reasonably successful which would atleast diversify what is going on in the Tavern. (really with the amount of work for Pathfinder, I cannot run another game unless it would be an effectively GM free play by post Freeform RPG) Again, I'd be willing to run one shots with many sundry systems over irc (as soon as I figure out how to do what you did with the spread sheet, that [cabbage]s much better than a map). As a note to mather and lie. Stop. [bleep]ing. Mather, either talk to a psychologist or shut up about suicidal tendencies, those are your two options (aside from suicide, obviously) and if you swoon at your own god damned reflection you are in fact [bleep]ing narcissistic. Lie, GOD DAMMIT NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT HOW X AND Y HAPPENED IN YOUR LIFE. GET A [bleep]ING LIVEJOURNAL OR SOME OTHER BLOG IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE. I AT LEAST DO. NOT. CARE. Oh yeah and cool drawing stork, love the tree snake.
  24. Depends, what kind of workload do you have for school? How many periods do you have? What level of math are you in (Algebra II/Trig has a lower workload than say calc AB), what science class are you in (because if you're complaining about the labs in non AP chemistry...), do you have any classes that require studying (example: AP Biology, APUSH, Calc, Physics, etc.), can you do your homework in any of these jobs?
  25. I have found the daily mail online, the sheer vitriol and hatred you can feel just from reading it is... actually rather impressive to be perfectly honest. Fox News has nothing on the Brits. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/ushome/index.html
