Add in the human factor and it makes sense :D how else are they going to pay the power bill for the church, or the other utilities? They also might have a lease on the building that they need to pay.

I colored my portion of the quote just to clarify it. I didn't endorse the wars, i just said that that was a part of the history. Many religious wars were not really about religion but more about a king or dictator wanting more land or money. Religion was just used to justify the situation, and encourage the public to hate the enemy. there are probably plenty of situations where the war really was about religion though. Terrorism is all about religion. I am regretting that I brought up the war thing. I could say that i suppose some people believe very strongly that it is their duty to defend the honor of their religion, and that war is a possible part of that. I don't, and interpreting the words of the bible has been relative ever since people other than Monks could read.

Is God real post your thoughts!
Ok, you can't test him, you can't ask for evidence, you can't say his name in vein, you can't make a statue of him. For some body who claims to have made the earth in 6 days, he is very secretive. Did you know according to the bible there is a guy who has never died, called Enoch. Thought you might like a biblical fact : (got a few more if you like) Yeah, there was also a guy who parted giant rivers, there was a river of blood, a talking snake, and a fully grown woman was crafted out of a few small organs. Also, a guy came back from the dead. Also, all of the animals and plants didn't evolve, they just popped up in one day. Billions of people, including me, are crazy enough to believe that. Thousands of people have died in wars defending that against the stories of other religions. All I can say is that the religion itself says to take it on faith and believe it. I almost feel like i'm against Christianity, even though i'm for it.

Thats not justification, its circular logic. If Everyone should believe in Christianity because a lot of people believe in it, then there shouldn't be any christians in the first place. People should believe in whatever religion because they actually have faith in it; faith is useless if its not actually faith. That's why i said that the argument had about ten million holes in the very next sentence that you deliberately deleted. Christianity itself says that there are no facts behind God, and that it is a sin to ask for any, and that you just have to believe it. Atheists say that there is no proof, but Christianity says that there is no proof too. The fact that billions of people have accepted that does not justify it or prove it, but it is important to mention. I have already said that I cannot win this argument, because I am arguing in favor of something that has no basis in facts and makes no logical sense. God is just something that me and billions of others have faith in. You could say that god doesn't show himself, that he never uses his powers to intervene, that there it has been proven that the earth is older than the bible says it is, that it has been proven that the earth came to be how it is over millions of years and not just seven days, and my only response to all of that is that billions of people still believe it anyway, and that the faith that it happened and that god is real is all that Christianity requires. In short what you are saying is, there is not 1 logical reason that any body would choose to belive in god and because (or in spite) of this you belive in god? Fair enough. As a person with an obvious unshakable faith in god can I ask you question? (well to save time I am going to ask them and then you can choose to answer) I have already asked this to some body and he couldn't answer me, hopefully you can. You obviously trust and have complete faith in god due to your above statement, so you belive god has a plan for every body. So do you look both ways before you cross the road? If you do your faith cannot be that strong cos your are messing with god's plan. If you don't I am surprised you havn't been hit! Yes, that question is taken from a tv programme but it is a good one, I think. It's not necessarily that amazing to believe in something with no proof. Have you ever seen one of those late night infomercials? It costs lots of money to keep those on air. Millions of people believe the claims in those infomercials with no facts on their side, and buy the products. :twss: I'm probably not helping my side of the argument by saying something like that. Walking in front of a car to see if god would intervene would be trying to get proof of his existence, which is against the rules. An Atheist could probably easily say that that is just a rule to cover the fact that he's not really there, though. And, if one of the many Atheists said that, I wouldn't know how to respond to that. So, if you are an Atheist, please don't use that argument.

Why can't adults drink?
if we define "adult" as 18, then we have to allow them to drink. We cant have the government telling legal adults if they can do something so basic. I see no point in waiting three years anyway, In that three year period me and all of my friends probably drank at least every weekend, and often more frequently.

I'll ask this again: Why do you choose to believe in Yahweh(Yahweh=christian god) rather than Thor? Faith provides no method for choosing. The difference between Yahweh and and the characters you mentioned is that billions of people worship that god, and billions of people take the stories of that god as truth entirely on faith, and have for thousands of years. As far as I know, FSP is just a sarcastic character used to make a point with no real followers, except maybe a few people with a little too much time on their hands. Faith to god doesn't provide any method for choosing, but he has done extremely well in gathering followers in spite of that. Large groups of people are often wrong, but that just brings me back to my point that there is no proof anyway. People also believed in Thor Odin, Zues, and Jupiter before they started believing in only one god. That religion died out, and was relatively short lived in comparison. Also it had far fewer followers, it never had the size or scope. There are probably about 10 million holes in that argument that you could pursue. It's very hard to argue in favor of something that cannot be proven. I feel like i've lost the arguement before it even started. That is arguably circular logic, since your saying faith in god is justified because people have faith in god. Christianity, at least, is justified because billions of people have faith in the god that the three major western religions speak of. it cannot ever be proven, because the religion itself says it can't be proven. Like I said, the argument has about ten million holes. I can't use this argument for Islam or Judaism, because I honestly don't know if the texts of Islam or Judaism make similar statements regarding proving god. In my opinion, it is impossible to win an argument in favor of religion because even though it is a traditional thing that people believe in, and have for thousands of years, it is totally illogical. You are asked to believe stories of men parting deep rivers with magical powers, and stories of seas of blood, and people being created with rib bones, and talking snakes. You have to be crazy enough to take it entirely on faith, with no proof at all, and christianity, at least, actually says it it against the rules to even request any proof. You have to be crazy enough to buy into all of this with no proof, but the vast majority of the population of the world DOES buy into stories that have no proof. We ARE crazy enough. The problem is, you cannot win an argument just by saying, "We believe it, so it must be true." To win an argument, you have to have structure, and logic, and facts, and religion doesn't have any of those. Billions of people, including me, ARE dumb enough to buy into religion though, even though there is no proof and you have to take it entirely on faith. In fact, some people are actually willing to KILL PEOPLE to defend something that they have no proof of. Isn't it wonderful?

Please help me get Norton Internet Insecurity Uninstalled.
my post says that the tool is expired. I have tried to use that tool four times. It is expired. Frankly, I am not interested in installing any more symantec products on my computer anyway. If anyone else is intending to post in this thread please also note that the Symantec solution to the problem of an expired tool also didn't work. Please do not recommend symantec tools, I have already tried them and I am looking for alternate methods of getting it off my computer. do you know what the other poster meant by "cmd line"?

The Dairy Queen Effect
The entire developed world is becoming less rural and more urban. You can go anywhere and get a Big Mac. You can go to any major city and see the exact same movies and listen to the exact same music. You can go to any major city and drink a Coke or a Pepsi. The only difference between countries now is rapidly becoming whatever crap we jam into our museums, and our libraries. As far as the States go, I think that sort of effect is just about complete. The only real unique areas are small rural pockets, otherwise it's all the same outside of the museums that preserve history that very few remember or pay attenion to. (including myself, lol) Eventually, there will be no need to travel. I am not really against this, it would be insane to stop development and progress just because a politician or an interest group didn't llike it. or, for that matter, because YOU didn't like it. I kinda think it would be neat if it were not so urban and each country was more unique like they used to be, but that's just too bad. You can't force these things. That is not how it works.

Please help me get Norton Internet Insecurity Uninstalled.
I have recently posted several topics here regarding my computer blocking ports that were required to play runescape. Over the last few days, I have talked to several friends and customer service people who have said that the problem is probably being caused by an expired trial of Norton that is still on my computer. It was a 90 day trial, but no matter what, it always claims to have 78 days left. It has been like this for well over a year. You have no control over which ports norton blocks and unblocks, as far as I know, so i have to get it off my comp. When I went to the Norton site, and downloaded the removal tool however, norton claimed that the tool was expired. When i went to a reference page it told me to go to if a tool was expired and downloaded the tool there, that tool was expired too. Is there any other way to get this abomination off my computer? Please tell me if you know any method.

Is God real post your thoughts!
I believe in a creatior. Instead of trying to "prove" it in nonsensical ways, I take it entirely on faith with no proof. there is no proof that god exists, there will never be, and the bible effectively says as much multiple times. Any christian who claims to have proof of god has never read the bible, and does not understand this religion at all. "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God"- luke 4:12 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.- deuteronomy 6:16 I haven't read the bible since I was 11 years old, and I was aware of this. i used google to get the actual quotes and references. i don't go to the church, but I wish I did, and I think it is important. It is difficult to argue in favor of christianity because of this. But if you want to defend christianity, you have to start there. If you start your argument by saying you have proof of god, you are contradicted by the bible. If you start your argument by saying simply that god IS real, then you have no proof. I believe it anyway. That is why it is called 'faith".

Lot of my friends tell me that all "security programs" like Norton and Adaware don't actually do anything that you couldn't easily do yourself, and that they are basically just a scam. Is this true?

Why can't adults drink?
Good point. I just think we should try to combat this by other means instead of labeling entire generations as "immature". For example, instead of setting age restrictions, why not just make it legal but increase the punishment for doing crimes while intoxicated? That might make sense. There would probably be hysterical claims from politicains and lobby groups that it wuld cause some kind of huge crime wave, but I honestly don't know any 18 year old who doesn't drink. I think these age limits are totally ineffective. I am 21 and if I had a 20 year old girl over, and she asked me if I had a beer, what do you think I would say? "oh, no, sorry, the government says I shouldn't give you one" it might make drinking more of a causual thing, underage peoople wouldn't need to drink amounts of beer that kill them in drinking games, because drinking would just be a casual thing. Idiots with records could be kept away form it, but the majority could probably handle it. It would sort of remove the idea that it is an amazing experience.

Why can't adults drink?
The Army is amazing, it's my entire life, but its also a government institution, meaning that it is at the mercy of every liberal anti-corporate lobbying group, and every conservative religious nutcase group. Also, 18 is now becoming more and more meaningless due to the actions of people in older age groups. Pairs Hilton is regularly referred to as a "little girl" or a "child" even though she is 27. The bar is being set higher and higher for adulthood. There are too many man-children and "professional students" in their mid twenties who are still hoplessly dependant on their parents. Many of my friends still live with their parents and complain about this stuff, it's like they want to be an adult but they don't want to pay rent or be away from their parents, it's pretty pathetic. I am very grateful that my parents threw me out after just giving me a few days to make arrangements when I turned 18. I thought it was cruel at the time, but it has been very beneficial. Anyway, who cares? Just drink anyway. That law is almost as poorly enforced as no cigarettes before age 18.

More problems with loading runescape, read for details.
I recently created a topic here about the possibility that blocked ports were preventing me from loading runescape, but other possibilities have arisen. I would call my customer suppport for all the problems I have, but most of them are simply repeating the same possibilities that have already been eliminated, making up nonsensical excuses ( "firewalls can't block ports"), or trying to flat out pitch products to me when I ask questions. When I try to run Runescape, it is aburdly slow to load. it can take as long as an hour. When I finally enter my information(i press the keys and about five minutes later the letters appear in the username box) and click log in, the little black box in the upper left corner says "loading". A few minutes later it might say "Internet disconnected" even though it is not disconnected. then it cycles back to loading. The process continues forever. If you were here with me, you could see that it is so slow that it probably isn't simply an issue of lagging, but it could be. I honestly don't know what I am doing, I am just making guesses. I quit playing runescape later on in the month of may, and I moved to a new town in later June. I primairily used WiFi internet before but now I use cable. I tried running runescape with their most basic offer package, but it was as I described above. I ordered the package that doubled my speed, but there was no change at all (even though an online test confirmed that my speed was doubled). I feel this confirms my suspicion that it is not related to my internet speed, but are there other factors assciotated with my ISP that could be causing this situation? I temporarily disabled my firewall and runescape still wouldn't load. I also shut down an expired trial of Norton internet security that my computer cannot seem to uninstall. my comp does not use a router, only a modem, but I did try reseting it( it had no effect) i think I have done everything that I possibly could to unblock ports. I am now considering uninstalling Windows Defender, as i have already turned it off and RS Still didn't work. Are there any other features that could be blocking ports? Do viruses or worms block ports? Anyway, that is about as detailed as i can get at the moment. if you need further details to help me, I'll try to give them to you.

Runescape ports are blocked off, need help.
It wouldn't be your ISP, they would gain nothing by blocking those. The only ports they would block would be of ones used for BitTorrent traffic, most ISPs only throttle traffic through those ports though. Have you tried what DeeKay mentioned? My internet does not use a router, only a modem, and deekay's suggestion seems to rely on having a router. His second suggestion is also possible, but the lagging is so extreme that i don't think that it could be this poor. I had a connection in a backwards rural area before that was probably much worse than this. Is there any other wasy I could confirm that it was a poor ISP, like trying another game with specs that are comparable to runescape? i don't really have another comp laying around here so I can't try it that way.

Runescape ports are blocked off, need help.
Thanks for the info, but it had nothing to do with it as you suspected. it is obviously the ISP. i played runescape, I quit for a month, i only used my computer for very basic things in that month, and then I moved. I tried to play runescape and it didn't work. My ISP has said that they do not block any ports, but after reseting my modem, and temporarily shutting down all security programs, RS still did not work. it is obviously the ISP, probably just a lazy idiot on the other side of the Customer service line who can't answer any of my questions in any real way. I'll just end my service with the company that I am currently getting service from and move to one that tracks its activities and manages its security in a competent way. I really don't understand why they would lie about something so small and routine. It is possible that they simply randomly block major ports off with out thinking about the possibilities or problems that may come from doing that. Either way, I am finished with this ISP. Thanks for the help that everyone provided.
