Have been doing hunter and div whenever those spots popped up in the resource dungeon and their pillars are as clean as they were when I planted them I can confirm they do, did divine yews for woodcutting pillars and rocktails for fishing pillars and both worked.

Definitely go for 4x Terracotta Merchant, well worth the cost. 3x Judge of Dice and 1x Wisp as well, replace them with 4x Exiles @ the final region.

The fact that you gain 2 additional doses of ANY potion involved when making combination potions already make them very worthwhile to make. Supreme overload salves in particular save a crapton of potions you'd need to make/buy, including overload and super antifire. Replenishment potions as well if you use adrenaline potions (does the 2 min cooldown still apply?).

Get hunter over with ASAP, it's the fastest skill and all you need is your traps. Do you have the enhanced yaktwee stick (from 1k charm sprites)? +5% hunter bonus right there.

On login the camera does indeed attempt to face north (look at the compass) but adjusts to south once the loading screen is done. It's not a big issue really, I got used to south-facing camera lol.
