  1. Personally, if I recall from my Age of Mythology days, I believe the upper part of the tower is thicker than the base... I'll probably design mine like that to start with, see what it looks like. I'll post a pic of one once it's built, see what you lot think :P Wondering how it'd look if I just extended the wall up near the top out a block so I have a ledge to walk on. Probably not too good >.< I'll probably look into expanding the wall inwards, but I don't want to lose any of my valuable space, either. If I expand outward, then I'd have to adjust the entire moat (which I just filled), and I know that's a pain in the ass... might be worth it, though. I'll have to look at the land around the outside to see how difficult it'd be to expand it out a block or two.
  2. That's a hell of a fortress you've got there, Napalm :P far larger than mine (although mine's built on an island... sort of). From what I can see of your wall, though, it's three blocks deep? With the higher wall to the outside, and a fence running along the inside edge? Interesting... my wall's only the one block thick, and I really don't have the space to expand it out even a block now >.< guess I probably won't be able to walk around up there, but I will have towers put in at some of the corners. Finally got my greenhouse (mostly) in, put in an infinite spring in one corner. Just gotta fill in the trench I dug to keep the soil hydrated. Until I do though, I have reeds growing next to the spring. Need lots for a library >.>
  3. Glad to hear that you've got your sound working :) Still slowly chugging along, building my castle. Did some work in the courtyard today, got the fountain in, had enough spare room left for two small trees. Just started building my greenhouse, which I should've probably made larger... hm, I could remove the tree right in front of the current entrance and utilize that space as well, I suppose... already building two floors to it >.< might look better, the tree does kinda block off the view of the greenhouse. Also dug out a secret entrance/exit for the castle, in the bottom of the (rather small) fountain. Gonna wire up the controllerblocs so I can have the entrance open/close from both outside and within. Probably going to have a minecart and track leading to a nearby island outside. Not completely decoration, I could very easily end up dying again and not be able to get back in because I closed the front gate >_> I could also put a secondary lever underneath the drawbridge in the moat instead, I suppose. Did some more experimenting with redstone circuitry, built some of the logic gates on the wiki article. Still really don't understand it, but I can at least make them work, lol. If I had the space and actually wanted to do it, I could easily make a self destruct system for the castle with an AND gate >_> would be kinda amusing to see the destruction, I'd admit. Not willing to play with complex redstone wiring and tnt, though. I can imagine myself accidentally triggering a block and causing a catastrophic explosion. Time to finish the greenhouse. And then I'll fill it with reeds so I can finally build that damn library <_< I did have one more thought, Ross. I'm not sure, is WinRAR capable of opening a corrupted zip/rar file and not notify you? If it's possible (which I doubt, since I've seen it notify me about it being corrupt before, but I wanted to mention it anyway), then maybe the download for ControllerBloc didn't go through all the way. It's a tiny possibility, but I guess it's something :/ Really sucks when you want a mod that you just can't get to install and work... I can't take 303's arrow mod since it conflicts with the hookshot mod (dirt arrow and hookshot have the same item id, apparently), so now I have no arrow mod at all >.<
  4. Just hit level 12, and my hero has decided already to join some random guild. Already hit cancel quest, and now I can't use godpower at all. Still 15% left, but I can't click the button at all >.< oh, and he's still doing the quest, the % is still going up. Think he'll auto cancel once he goes back to town? EDIT: Just decided to use my one accumulator charge left. The send button is working now. Maybe I can force my [wagon] hero to actually cancel his quest -.- EDIT 2: 30% godpower down, and the button's disabled again. In town getting drunk now, maybe he'll cancel after that... he responded with 'to quest or not to quest, that is the question!' twice, but I have zero clue if that means he's cancelling or not. EDIT (again): Got him to cancel with about 25% godpower left. Then he ignored every attempt I made to tell him to join ELITES, and now he's trying to join some other stupid guild. Barael, you are a [wagon]. -.- Hopefully, when I hit 100% godpower, that'll actually be enough to make him listen...
  5. I'm completely clueless too, but that's not surprising >.< Will it load at all when no mods are in the jar file? I just can't see why it's refusing to work :/ This is the sole post I've found so far, but you've likely already seen it: This is my installation procedure for this mod: 0. CHECK MINECRAFT IS NOT RUNNING 1. Delete minecraft.jar and run the client to redownload it. Exit out of the game once it's done. 2. Move the Controller Block files from the zip to an actual folder on my PC. 3. Open the minecraft.jar by right clicking -> Open With -> WinRAR. 4. Drag the individual files (NOT including the gui folder) over to the WinRAR window. 5. Open the gui folder within the minecraft.jar, then copy over the images from the Controller Block's gui folder into it. 6. Delete the META-INF folder from the minecraft.jar file. 7. Close the minecraft.jar file and run the Minecraft client. Copy/pasted from a post on the ControllerBloc topic. I'll keep looking anyway, there might be something somewhere in this topic... hopefully someone else might have more of an idea than me. EDIT: Found one very minuscule possibility for why it's not working. A user posted on the 8th page of the topic saying that the program they were using to add the files to the jar file, IZArc, was having issues placing them correctly. Maybe this is the issue? It would make sense, since no mods are working... but it probably was operating properly before :/ still it's something, at least. Try a different program that can handle zip/rar/jar files? I use (an old version of) WinRAR, personally. It seems to extract everything just fine. EDIT 2: Another random thought. You are installing 303's Mod Loader and then ControllerBloc, right? ControllerBloc has a bunch of files that overwrite the Mod Loader files, so installing them in the reverse order would cause it to crash horribly, most likely. Just a thought, probably a pretty obvious one but I figured it'd be better to say and be sure.
  6. I don't really have any more ideas for what could be wrong, but I'm looking at the Minecraft forums now. There should be a general topic for modding issues on there somewhere. Only other thing I can think of is an issue with the Mod Loader - which one do you have installed, 303's version or Risugami's version? I'm almost positive ControllerBloc is made to be used with 303's version. I had issues installing ControllerBloc as well, although all my issues were with getting it to work in game, not install :/ that's all I've got for now. I'll edit this post if I find anything else on the topic for ControllerBloc or if I find a general troubleshooting thread.
  7. Ross, every time I've gotten a black screen, it's because I just installed a fresh minecraft.jar and forgot to remove the META-INF folder in it before loading up the mods and playing. Other than that, try and load your mods one at a time to see if there's a conflict somewhere? I know the ControllerBloc mod conflicts with BridgeMod, and both conflict with Risugami's Floodgate mod. Other than that, I've had no issues. Actually, there might be something wrong with the Minecraft files to begin with. I've had... something happen to my Minecraft files besides me screwing with the jar file, and it refuses to load after that regardless of what mods are in the jar file. I usually have to delete the version file and force Minecraft to redownload everything (or in my case, I have everything in a backup zip, so I just unzip that to restore it atm). Try loading Minecraft with no mods in the jar (don't load any saves that have mods present in them, that'd crash instantly) and maybe generating a new world. If it operates normally, it's probably a conflict. If you're still getting a black screen upon loading, it's something wrong with the other Minecraft files and you should try redownloading them and then try installing the mods again. Hope I helped a bit. Most of what I know came from experimentation, so I dunno if it's unique to my game or not >.< worth a shot, though. EDIT: Quickly read through Notch's tumblr to see what's up, thanks to Will posting. I was more fascinated with the introduction for Jeb moreso than the SMP updates (since I have dialup, I know I won't be using that update :P), but I know just how badly people wanted working health (and therefor mobs, pvp, etc), so I'm quite happy he's fixing it all up. Wondering if the leaf block fix is universal and fixes single player as well... not that it matters too much to me, I dled a mod that brings the leaf block decay back in (and also has the tree drops mod included, so I can get the leaf block/sapling/stick/apple/golden apple drops as well when they decay/are broken by me). Regardless, I'm quite interested to see what happens with the update, and if Minecraft is going to enter beta soon. Wondering if Notch will be able to reduce the ram usage of Minecraft any at some point, though (my comp can just barely play at minimal view distance, and it's getting laggier with every update, lol)
  8. So yeah, in the process of getting ControllerBloc to work now, and Minecraft suddenly decided to regen a map chunk, and now I don't have an entrance to my castle. It's reverted back to the way that map chunk was when I first got here -.- I have an (old) save of the castle, but I'll probably lose several hours of work, and that's assuming this save file will work. If not, then I guess I'm pretty much [bleep]ed. EXTREMELY pissed off right now. EDIT: Save file worked. Lost most of my basement (pantry, freezer, and secret passage to Nether portal), but the basic shell of the rooms are still there. Gonna take a good hour to redig the portal room out, though. I seem to have lost a vast majority of my sound files somehow, though. Even more unusual is that the sounds are also missing from the zip file of the files I made earlier as well, I think... really odd. Gonna have to set it to redownload after Gimp finishes downloading - I dl'ed the grappling hook mod along with 303's mod loader, and I wanted to take a shot at reskinning it into a LoZ:TP clawshot >_> Gonna test the ControllerBloc mod for now, though. I got that working, at least. EDIT 2: Managed to dig up the resources folder that was sitting in my recycle bin. It has all the sounds still in it, I think. Put that folder back into .minecraft and updated my backup zip to reinclude them. Still have no clue how they disappeared, though. EDIT 3: Figured I should put in at least one screenie at some point :P This is the kitchen area. It's fully functional, any guesses as to how I can cook meat? >_> (hint, look at the floor) Oh, and the thing next to the hookshot (first spot on the hotbar is hookshot, for those who haven't played Zelda games to recognize one)? I dl'ed the grappling hook mod from 303's mod list as well as his Mod Loader last night. When I started playing around with it, it reminded me very much of a clawshot from Twilight Princess. So, taking an hour or so of work, I modified the image files to make the grappling hook a clawshot :P I'm not spectacular at it, but it does look kinda like one to me. (also note I only had 16x16 pixels to work with, so... yeah) Controls for the grappling hook are fairly simple - jump makes you go towards wherever you're hooked onto, and sneak locks the rope at that length, so you can swing around. Handy for accessing those cliffside veins of ore :P I noted that you mine slower while you're hanging from it, though. Still, better than having to dig your way up to wherever/going around.
  9. Dug a bit deeper into the modding section of the Minecraft forums. Managed to find the BridgeMod and it's successor, ControllerBloc (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=84500). It needs 303's version of the ModLoader (I have Risugami's version right now), so that's an issue... ControllerBloc and Floodgate also conflict, so I'll have to go into my castle and remove all my floodgate blocks, then re-edit the jar file to remove the ModLoader I have now, then install 303's version, and check and see if the other mods I have need Risugami's Loader specifically... Plenty of work, but I really like the sound of bridges longer than two blocks >_> oh, and windmills apparently, according to the vid on the ControllerBloc topic (as well as a number of other applications).
  10. So, learned a valuable lesson for tnt a while ago. Don't dig a two block hole, put a tnt block in the bottom block, and immediately activate it while standing on it. Activated tnt doesn't count as a solid block, you fall through it. Panicked and died >_> I got back in time to get my stuff, though. Took a fairly long walk, but it all was still there. Portal room is just about dug out, just making it look better now (was dirt/stone/cobblestone walls/floor before).
  11. Flodder, those are massive o.o considering you made the vids, I'm guessing you made the towers as well? Epic job :) (I did only watch the first vid due to dialup, though) Oh, and fuu at that stupid task manager kill I did last night. It also ate my diamonds -.- think I had 50 something diamonds, going to edit... 20 back in or something. I can't be sure what exactly I had before, so I'll take a lower amount and just use that to dig back down (which I'll be doing anyway) and get more diamonds. Pics of the castle will arrive eventually. When it's actually done >_> EDIT: Apparently it duped my obsidian and flint/steel as well. Interesting. Guess when you shut Minecraft off via task manager, your position and inventory stay, but chests reset. That's what it looks like from this scenario. I also got the rewards from the dungeon duped as well (couple buckets, redstone dust, gunpowder). *incinerates half of obsidian and one flint/steel*
  12. About 1/5th of the way through level 11-12 right now. Gear is improving: -7 table knife -5 big pot cover -3 iron crown -2 chemical protection suit -1 pair of wooden wings (just bought as I was typing - he seems to like buying body armor and helmets in particular) -6 pair of pink mittens (still... >_>) -6 diver's flippers -6 spiked collar On my 9th quest atm, still no deaths. Managed to get two philosopher's stones earlier today and a single bold item, had to use one early, and it ate the other stone >.> still got two gold bricks out of it though, now at... 0.8% temple completion. Still has 2.5k gold on him even after the shopping trip. Bet that half goes into booze and gambling before he leaves. EDIT: Fuu, I was right. There goes 2.2k gold, lol >.< and he went back to Boatmurdered again. How entertaining.
  13. Reinstall seems to have fixed the lag, oddly. Working under the assumption that, since I just updated BiomeMod from an old version to the newest one, that perhaps I might've missed a file from deleting the old files or something, and opening Minecraft corrupted a different file, or screwed it up otherwise. Anyway, it seems to be working for the moment, now I'll try putting the mods back in and see what happens. EDIT: Back to working on the castle. I had just obtained my snow I wanted to make a freezer with when this lag started. Got back to the castle, and started blowing up stuff in the basement to clear it out, and... I find a dungeon o.o directly under my house. No clue what it spawns yet (peaceful mode), but I decided to keep it. But... I destroyed it without thinking about turning it into a mob trap >.< so, being the smartass I am, I decide to kill the Minecraft thingy through task manager and come back in. I kept the mob spawner, but... everything I had just carried back from my spawn (plus all the snow I spent a couple hours collecting) disappeared. Fuu- Anyway, just edited some snowballs, 6 buckets, and 12 blocks of gold back into my invy, which is roughly equivalent to the valuables I lost. Guess that's what I get for bug abusing :P no more of that foolishness. I'll probably post pics of the place once it's fully finished. Still have a lot left, though.
  14. Minecraft is getting laggier and laggier for some odd reason -.- it's really starting to piss me off, since I can't continue building my castle if it's lagging as bad as it is. Thought it was the texture pack I had in. Switched back to classic, nothing. Thought it was a new mod I installed (the sign mod from Risugami), so I took that out. Nada. Completely replaced the jar file and tried a new world with no mods. Still just as laggy. Going to try a full reinstall of the entire thing (luckily, I have all the files backed up and zipped, so no redownloading). Hoping that'll work. If not, then I doubt I can play Minecraft till I find another solution. It worked just fine on tiny view distance and fast graphics before >.< ... thought I might've had the view distance set to short by accident (I do that sometimes). Nope, it's on tiny like it should be. Gonna try reinstall and looking at the forums for other possible solutions if that fails.
  15. I decided to look into how gunpowder is made in reality. It appears that it's made using a combination of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate (assuming wikipedia is right). Charcoal and sulfur are easy to match up to stuff we could make in Minecraft as it is (the lightstone in the Nether is also called brimstone, which is also another name for sulfur, but that could be a problem to get... hm... charcoal is easy enough, just toss wood into a furnace and 'smelt' it - charcoal is made by removing the water and other materials from animal/vegetation substances, so this could work). Potassium nitrate is the problem, I don't really know how we could create that or something similar enough in Minecraft. Since it's also called stone salt, maybe... make it as a new item that could be obtained from either existing or a new stone block similar to gravel producing flint? I'm unsure, maybe I'm over-thinking this a bit... >.> Doesn't really seem like a crafting recipe for gunpowder using similar materials to real life gunpowder will work too well, lol >.< the materials would still be annoyingly difficult to obtain, but I suppose two methods are always better than one... plus Notch could end up adding in sulfur deposits or something :P Oh, and the thought of mobs working together and using tactics? That probably wouldn't end too well for me >_> I guess I'll edit this post once I get back to my castle and screenie it to post here.
  16. Zilla, to avoid that happening again, put a dive pool at the bottom of the shaft - 2 (maybe 3 to be safe) blocks deep of water. That should nullify all the damage, assuming it's deep enough. Other than that, I'd be covering over the shaft with something when not in use >.< still, sucks when stuff like that happens. I've had several fall deaths since I got my hookshot, heh >.> And Shiny, feel free to post pics :P I'm always interested in others' constructions. Trying to get some snow to make a freezer in my basement atm. I thought about using ice (which is far more plentiful since I have the elemental arrows mod in), but there's no way I can light a room made of ice, it melts >.< after that, going to the Nether to get some lava to do a glass floor/lava underneath thing for my furnace room for kicks. Not sure what else to do after this castle is done, though...
  17. I can't access multiplayer since I'm on dialup (it might work, but it'd lag like hell, so no point :P) Decided to start building a castle. Traveled fairly far away from my spawn point, found a fairly flat island that I'm slowly terraforming into a fairly good place to build on. Using a web based inventory editor (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=65093) to give myself the cobblestone/dirt/sand/etc, but I'm building it by hand. Well, once I finish the beach, anyway >.> Also dl'ed the elemental arrows mod. The explosive arrows helped a bit with the destroying of rock in some places, but I (stupidly) spammed the egg arrows all over the place and now I have a chicken infestation >_> Trying not to dl too many mods, since if I start I probably won't stop (considering I have literally a thousand mods for Morrowind, most likely), but it's difficult... >.< Probably going to put in an underground minecart station with tracks going to and from the castle and spawn point. Eventually. I do have a stack of iron blocks, after all... EDIT: Gave into temptation. Glad I did: This is Risugami's floodgate mod. While it's originally intended for trapdoors and floodgates, I figured... why not drawbridges/larger doors? And here's my best attempt at wiring a door roughly the size of a portal (ooh, maybe I could hide a portal behind a floodgate wall... >.>). I'm not particularly good at wiring stuff, but this was my best effort :P And yes, I can right click on the main floodgate block (you can see it, it looks like the crafting bench texture in my pic) to bring up a screen to make the two blocks look like other blocks via placing the wanted block in it. All in all, it's very fascinating, and hopefully something I'll be able to use in this castle I've spend the night flattening out an area for :P Oh, before I forget again, link to the mod in case someone's interested: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=80246
  18. I've seen two Godville Admins so far, both completely destroyed my hero (although he was smart enough to flee before he keeled over both times). Level 10 now, on his sixth quest, and 0.4% temple done. Gear is as follows: table knife -7 toilet seat cover -7 cook's cap -5 star-spangled shirt -5 pair of pink fur mittens -6 diver's flippers -6 spiked collar -6 Haven't died yet. Also have 3 charges in my accumulator, although I'm not too sure what exactly I'll do with it >.> not too interested in the arena, I've never really liked pvp in any game. Probably will be starting the quest to join ELITES within another day or two.
  19. Glad that something may have worked :) Well, the hookshot made me all nostalgic, so I dl'ed some LttP soundtracks, and installed a zelda texture pack. Cave delving + hookshot + zelda textures and listening to the dark world dungeon theme = extremely nostalgic. And epic. (at least to me) Trying to locate some more diamonds now. I have 23 back at base, but I want more >.> EDIT: And yes, the hookshot does come in handy for some of the areas I'd normally have to use ladders/dig out stairs in. Makes things faster :P I still don't trust my aim enough to hookshot over lava, though.
  20. http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=51345 This is all I got so far, which is typical -.- exact same issue, but it just says to delete the resources folder and Minecraft will redownload everything next startup. Supposedly. What Pere just said seems to be a common thing to try with sound issues, though - from what I read it forces Minecraft to debug everything, and resets sound in the process. Worth a shot (and something I'll be remembering the next time my sound stops working as well). Really hope something helps. I know how annoying it is to have sound not work.
  21. I don't have much information on this problem atm, but I'm looking at the support section of the Minecraft forums (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewforum.php?f=17) to see if it's a common issue. So far, all I've turned up is that with the 11/11 update a few days back, one person had their sound disabled in the ingame options menu, and trying to set it up made it crash. A post further down recommended that he go into the options.txt and set the volumes up that way (in the options.txt, the max volume, 100% is equal to 1.0). Seeing that you're playing an older version, though... hm. I'll keep looking, I'm sure there's a topic for this issue somewhere on the forum. I'll edit this post/post again if I find anything else. Oh, and if you look into your resources folder, how many .ogg and .mus files do you have in each folder inside? I backed up the old version (same as your version number), and mine has... [spoiler=List of Files] - 3 files in the resources/music directory - 3 files in the resources/newmusic directory - 13 files in the resources/newsound/ambient/caves directory - 6 files in the resources/newsound/damage directory - 2 files in the resources/newsound/fire directory - 4 files in the resources/newsound/liquid directory - 51 files in the resources/newsound/mob directory (this one here could be the one that has the missing files) - 16 files in the resources/newsound/random directory - 28 files in the resources/newsound/step directory - 8 files in the resources/newsound/vehicle directory - 16 files in the resources/sound/step directory - 14 files in the resources/streaming directory Check and see if your files match mine in numbers? I know for a fact all my sounds worked back when I played using this version, so if you have missing files, that's the problem. Hope I helped somewhat. Like I said, I'm no tech dude >.>
  22. I noticed with my own version that my sounds don't load up instantly/at all when I first open Minecraft. Sometimes I have to restart it a few times to get the sound to work, other times I just have to play for a few minutes and they slowly load on their own (also noting that they don't always come in at once, I got steps to load, then mob noises, then finally block breaking sounds the last time this happened). I'm not entirely sure what version you're using, though. If you have the files for Minecraft installed on your comp, then maybe it just didn't download something correctly. If the sounds won't play at all, try redownloading it and see what happens? I'm no tech geek, so I'm a bit clueless here, sorry.
  23. Be careful with the hookshot, though. It does absorb some fall damage sometimes, but it can and will throw you up high enough to hit the sky limit and kill you if you're not careful with where you hook onto >.> Useful for high up build projects, though. Makes getting up/down a bit faster if you're good at aiming and hooking onto the right areas.
  24. Figures. The third dungeon I go to has the string I need, and while I'm digging up the mossy cobblestone, I find a hole leading to another cave. Upon exploring it, this is what I find: This can't be a coincidence. Third dungeon, right under the room with the hookshot, I find all this water? ... I think I found the Minecraftian Water Temple. >__> (okay, I know it isn't that spectacular looking, but I still find the fact that this is right under the room I made the hookshot to be hilarious. Gives me some practice with it, at least >_>)
  25. 261 iron ore there. Plus I fell into another cave and there's coal, iron and redstone down there >_> And the nether gates are completely possible to make in single player (fairly sure they're still disabled/glitchy on multiplayer, but I'm not sure). You need to make a frame of obsidian with a gap 2x3 (2 across, 3 high, also means it needs... 14 blocks of obsidian, although I've heard you can go without the corner blocks to save 4 and it still works - make sure the frame is a complete circle, and the base is connected to form a box). After that, take a flint and steel and ignite the portal. Keep in mind that (I've heard anyway) it's possible for ghasts and maybe zombie pigmen (not sure on pigmen, but I know I've heard of ghasts doing this) spawning near your normal world end portal, so try to enclose the gate in a small room so they can't spawn (ghasts need a 5x5x5 area to spawn in, I believe). Oh, and the sounds in the Nether that the ghasts make are supposed to make you piss your pants. Lucky me, I went in on peaceful >.> only saw/heard them in X and later SeaNanners' Nether realm vids, decided that I probably won't be going in there on anything but peaceful after that, lol. Back to trying to find that dungeon, then I'll investigate the cave I found.
