I did my first Dagannoth King raid today, and found it worth talking about on my blog. So here's the little adventure of mine along with a few fellows from my clan.

My friend Bella organised this Dagannoth King raid today as a clan event. For me and her, it was our first time in that dungeon. We were three, and only one of us knew his way down there; fortunately for us he was level 138. We were a bit nervous at first, seeing the kind of inventory it took to fight those Kings and all. Crossing the dungeon alone was a thrilling adventure for us, not knowing what to expect.

When we got to the Kings, it was a bit hard to start the real raid: Bella was the mage, she was the one who had to go in first in order to lure Rex away and she was a bit worried. But it didn't take us long to settled there and start taking care of those huge creatures. At first you feel a bit confused, but then it gets really easy. With Prayer on, you barely get hit. My tortoise ended up disappearing with about eight Saradomin Brews inside, and I couldn't take them in my inventory because I was still full of potions. Lost some money there, but entirely recovered it since we got a Dragon Hatchet drop shortly after. The money was split and so I got 840k gold from that.

Later, the mage ended up forgetting about Prayer points going down and was forced to teleport out, escaping right in time before getting killed. I also forgot about my Prayer points shortly after, lost Deflect Mage and nearly died to Primus; my Ring of Life saved me at the last moment. Guess the lesson we got from this was that these bosses are fairly easy to kill when you're paying attention, but if you let your Prayer go down it becomes deadly.

It's really worth it going down there as a team. The drops seem to be quite frequent, and they're very good drops. The teamwork it demands is also enjoyable. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot whenever you can. ;)

Today, the article I had written for Tip.It Times has been chosen as one of the two articles for this week. Even though it got a bit ignored for being posted next to an article about the attention-drawing RuneFest, written by a member much more popular than me, I think its still worth mentioning here. It's one of the discussions I'd really like to have with someone who's opinion is the complete opposite, guess someone may show up for that around. But, before going deep into that topic I'd like to sum up my previous week on Runescape.

Ever since that last quest, I've been doing a few things here and there besides training Ranged. As they updated Court Cases, I decided to have a go at it. Just solved the Mugger case, it was a bit like a miniquest, I quite enjoyed it. I was tempted to go on and do harder court cases, but I had to leave early that day and keep forgetting about it ever since. Guess I'll end up doing one after my next farming run, now that I mention it.

I've also done my first raid on General Graardor. I'm not sure about how good it turned out compared to average raids, but it looked pretty bad to me. I was with a friend of mine in a random Bandos team. After around six kills, I'm not sure of what really happened but the General stopped attacking the tank and went loose on us. I was unfortunately his first target, and since I had Deflect Ranged on, and wasn't expecting this at all, he killed me with two melee hits. No worries there though, my grave got blessed and I had more than enough time to get all my stuff back. However, when I came back the raiding party had split up, the adventure ended there. Surely I'll get back to it sooner or later, but next time I'll have a go on the Armadyl boss instead.

Another important happening this week has been my level 90 in Ranged, my last milestone before level 99. This is almost halfway to the end, and it's proven me just how tedious skilling can be. If it wasn't for Slayer somehow making it enjoyable, I'd probably have given up already. All this experience in Ranged allows me to deal much more damage than I ever did in the days when I played with level 70 in all my combat skills, so I'm sure level 99 will be worth it in the end for boss hunting and PvP (not PKing, just minigames. I don't PK, ever).

Now about that article. I do find it a shame that players are so focussed on skilling these days. See, by doing skills I don't mean skilling in general, I myself level up my skills when I need to, and I'm getting a couple of 99's. The "skilling" I talk about is what I'd call pointless skilling. 200 million experience in Runecrafting, untrimmed Slayer and Summoning Capes, even some 99's like Agility or Firemaking, that's just skilling for the sake of skilling and not for the fun of it. Why do people put themselves through all the dull monotomy of skilling when there's nothing in for them in the end? That's borderline masochism. I'm planning to get 99 Ranged and Construction, but those goals of mine have purposes in the end, which are PvPing and entirely finishing my house. I have content to unlock, and I chose enjoyable ways of getting there. For instance, I train Ranged through Slayer, to avoid monotomy as much as possible. There are quite a few skills I have never trained ever since I reached the maximum requirements for quests, because they're just pointless to train anymore. Why do it if I'm not getting fun out of it?
As I often say, one wise man once said the journey was more important than the destination. Guess there's nothing much to add besides that.

It was time for the next Void quest. No big expectations for this quest, given how the previous ones were deceivingly easy, but I got a good surprise this time.

So I started out after finishing my Aberrant Spectre task. Commodore Tyr announces me a mission that is nothing more than the immediate sequel of the previous quest. In Quite Before The Swarm, I found out how come the pest was set free, and now I'm asked to go look for it.

So the first task I'm assigned to do is to begin tracking the pest from the very beginning of its trail, at Port Sarim. Captain Korasi and Jessika, the one who set the pest free, would follow me as well. After asking the locals what they knew about it, I was led to the trail and eventually followed it to a hole next to the Inn. Nothing special so far, just some Hunter skills put to practice.

After investigating the Inn, I gained access to the cellar, followed by Korasi and Jessika. After exploring it, I found out that one of the walls had some strange goo coming out of it. Jessika asked me to bring a barrel from the room ahead, which turned out to be a puzzle. A good one, I must say, but not as difficult as the one in Elemental Workshop III. I got stuck twice before I figured out the path I needed to open for the empty barrel to pass through. I also figured out that I could take most barrels entirely out of the way, not having to bother with them anymore. It was an enjoyable puzzle, overall. :)

So after Jessika got the barrel with green goo, we were ready to go on with the hunt. I took the boat to Musa Point and did pretty much the same thing I had done back at Port Sarim, this time finding a hole with some weird wood inside, called waxwood. Shortly after, I went to Rimmigton in order to find out where this wood came from - the local craftsman apparently knew. He had used that kind of wood to craft some crates for some guy in Falador. After talking to him I met the two others at the chemist nearby, where they were going to analyse the green goo. I had to operate the chemist's machines to get the analyse done. The same kind of machinery as in Regicide, but even harder to handle this time. It took me quite a few tries until I finally understood how to operate it correctly, but it was pretty fun to do.

Next, I headed to Falador to investigate the crates issue. I quickly found out the merchant who ordered them and who was selling them, some Ali from Al Kharid. He didn't tell the truth right away, I had to buy one of his crates and see what it really contained. The crate had a puzzle lock, that none of us managed to solve, so Korasi just broke it. It was full of green goo, proving that Ali was indeed involved in this, so I got a permission from Sir Amik to check his crates and he finally admitted what he was up to. Someone had set him up to do the job, and had given him a clue scroll. He handed over the scroll, which I followed right away. It was the first time I did a clue scroll by myself, as I don't use help for quests and this one was part of it. It was an easy scroll though, nothing compared to the real clue scrolls.

I was then close to the end. The scroll led me to a trapdoor, which led to where all the crates came from. Once inside, I had to get through the rooms, first by doing an imposture with some help from Korasi and Jessika, and then by crafting a tool to reach the key that opened the next door. Finally, I got to the room where the pest was being kept, but it was guarded by two Elite Black Knights. I wasn't prepared for a fight when I got there, and on top of that they drained my Prayer to get themselves more health, so I was forced to retreat.

But then I just came back with some mage gear and took care of the guard I had to fight. It was a little bit like fighting one of the Barrows Brothers, they drain your Prayer and have low Magic defence.

I then had the choice between killing the pest or setting it free. It could actually talk to me, thanks to my Summoning level (which I still need to train, now that I mention it). I've chosen to kill it, as it could otherwise help its Queen prepare an attack on Gielinor. I really enjoyed this quest all the way, it's been the best quest Jagex has released ever since Temple At Sentisteen (unless Nomad's Requiem actually came after that one). Even if it's not a Master Quest, it's still far superior to Love Story. Guess I'll get back to Slayer until the next quest is out, now. ;)

Hello there and welcome to my brand new blog!

Since I'm moving here to Tip It, I decided to also set my new blog here. I had a blog on Blogger with about 117 entries before, but I lost it and had to start a new one, so I figured this would be the best place for a fresh new start. Hopefully I'll get to read and get read by better bloggers this time!

So what's my very first entry about? Just introducing myself and my blog. Stepping into the dark and breaking the ice. So what about I start by introducing myself? I started playing Runescape in 2006, and ever since I can't say I ever was much of a hardcore player. My favourite activity in game is questing, by far. Taking on quests without knowing where they'll end, adventuring into dungeons without knowing what dangers await me, solving the most mind crushing puzzles for the fun of it, that's me. I suppose my second favourite activity would be anything community related, from large community events to just hanging around with a friend or two, I'm always down for that kind of stuff. Then comes skilling, which I only do when there's something in for me besides levels and a skilll cape. Currently I have two 99 goals, being Ranged so that I can deal with bosses more easily, and Construction so that I can finish my large, expensive house and throw in some house parties.

Now about the blog, here's a little heads up about what you can expect from it. I'm an active blogger, I often post more than twice a week and I take all the time I need for it. In my blog entries you'll almost always find a lot of screenshots, I take quite a lot of them while I play since I like photography overall. My entries are always either quest reports, in which I just narrate my adventures, or personal reviews in response to in game content or to other people's opinions. I never post an entry just to say I got a level or two in one skill or another, we all know nobody really reads that.

So yeah, got the whole thing introduced, time to begin working on it from tomorrow on. I'll be adding some stuff to make it look nicer and eventually make my first real blog entry here. I'll also be reading other people's blogs, hope I find some good ones, I always link the ones I like on my blog. ;)

Today I've been to my first TET Event: Pirates vs Ninjas, and had a great time there. You can find the original thread here. Most of us began preparing a couple of hours before the event, and met up in Varrock Square before moving to Falador Park. Everyone had great outfits. In my opinion the best looking was Tsar's, but besides that one I had no preferrences. Here was mine:

We then lined up to get rated by the event leaders. You can find the list of winners here. I didn't win anything, but it doesn't really matter, the winners had great outfits. :)

Next came the Clan Wars. We marched all the way from Falador to Clan Wars, and played three matches. Us pirates won first, then won the ninjas, and finally us pirates decided to organise ourselves a little bit more and we won the third match by far (alright I'll admit it, we pilled :P )

Then came the minigames. Now I had never played either of the two so I found myself completely lost at first and didn't get to do anything, but it was still worth it being there just to be with other people from Tip It. I guess next time, I'll have to prepare myself a bit more. Here's me and NeoAnderson performing the Quest Cape emote while we gathered before the second event:

Overall it was fun, and worth the time. If you have never been to TET Events, you should definitely give it a try. I'll be waiting for the next one.

This month surely is a month full of surprises. New Treasure Trails items, a pretty good Void Knight quest, and now a new minigame along with a wide new set of clothes. Since everyone was getting these new clothes, I decided to try them out myself as soon as I finished my Black Dragon task - a task during which I got myself level 87 Ranged, actually. Here's the screenshot below, just twelve more levels to go. :^_^:

So about the clothes, they were a hard choice. Had to find myself a set that could fit both my Quest Cape and my Black D'hide set whenever I needed to use it. Male clothes wouldn't do the job, so I turned my character female just to get myself one of these awesome outfits. Not the first time I change the character's gender, at first it feels like you're playing someone else's character but then you get used to it. Guess I'll have fun with my new outfit for a while, then get bored of it and revert back to the way it was before, I'm too used to my character the way it is generally.

Now about the new minigame, I didn't have much time to try it out but I can tell one thing - it's already much better than Mobilizing Armies. You get quite a lot of points from it, making Void Knight gear much easier to get. It's a distant variant of chess, and also very distant from being as good as the latter, but still an enjoyable minigame. I played two rounds against a more experienced player and lost both, then won a match against another player who was just as new to the minigame as I was. There is much less strategy involved than in chess, and the units are still unbalanced as they are right now - Champions being overpowered for their price, for instance. On a side note, you may also notice that scouts have the same pose as Nomad. :P I wanted to get myself that new shield, but I didn't have the time for more matches so I just dropped it there. I will try again tomorrow, if any of you would like to join me at it I'd gladly challenge you.

This latest update nicely adds up to a good amount of updates we've been getting this month already, but will it be the cherry on top of the cake? I don't think so, as the sequel for While Guthix Sleeps should be coming out soon: it was said it would come out this year. This all sounds very promissing.

Back to Runescape, and back to blogging. Unfortunately I come a little bit late for a review on the Treasure Trails update, but I'll still talk about it later in this blog post.

So here I am after my three weeks long vacation. Runescape seems to have quite some good surprises for me as I return: double experience weekend, new Void Knights quest, new Treasure Trails items (woot, Zaros stuff), and what not? It was a pleasure getting back to the game. Only bad thing was I had computer problems yesterday, so I only began playing today, but that's not much of a problem anyway.
First thing I did was to check my Miscellania ressources. I always leave all my money there whenever I go inactive for a long time, in order to collect a lot of ressources when I'm back. Thanks to the double experience weekend, I'll make quite a lot of profit from it this time, so it was really worth it. And guess what, I even got two Raven eggs at once, along with one of each Saradomin and Zamorak eggs!

Those will make a nice addition to my pet collection in my house. Got seven of them at the moment. Talking about player owned houses, I may be organising a little house party event here on Tip It, you can get to see them if I do organise it. Anyway, after that I just left a Raven egg in the encubator and tried doing Tears of Guthix meanwhile. But unfortunately it wasn't working for me, as Juna would only let me in after I got some experience or a quest point. So I began cooking the Tuna I got from Miscellania and got myself my fourth 80+ skill:

Now about the new Treasure Trails items... I must say they're pretty awesome, I've been waiting a long time for these. And as the three other Gods are getting more and more integrated into the game overtime, it would be unfair to not give them their own armour sets and books as well. Besides, Zaros is totally awesome. :P
The most important items here, in my opinion, are the three new books. Zaros, Armadyl and Bandos prayer books give Magic, Ranged and Bandos bonusses respectively, while still giving better Defence bonusses than a Book of Balance. Although a Zamorak Book still has better offensive stats than the three newer books, their Defence bonusses surely make up for it when it comes down to daily use. I didn't try them out yet, but I'm guessing the Zaros Book may be great for Barrowing, while the Armadyl book may be great at the Thzaar Fight Caves. I didn't buy either yet, as I put almost all my money in Miscellania and still didn't sell the stuff, but I definitely will later on.

Well, thats pretty much all for today. I'll do the new Void Knight quest tomorrow, and I'll be blog posting about it. I'll also be adding some more stuff to the blog; as you can see, I already added some content blocks since last time, but I still got some work to do in order to be happy with it. ;)
