  1. Are you familiar with the 'Electric Universe' theory? It has a long way to go but it has a damn good go at explaining stuff like spin (something which isn't really explained in mainstream Physics), and the workings of atoms and sub atomic structures etc.
  2. True (That's your Queue OP :P ). I think in England only videoing police staff is illegal, people who ask not be taped, or videoing on private property. :o Legislation is being introduced to prohibit anyone from taking pictures or videos of a police officer that could be used in "acts of terrorism". Ambiguity being the order of the day there. GF police state!
  3. Instead of teaching youngsters about the responsibilities both emotionally and morally that come about from entering into a sexual relationship, sex education generally focuses on the physical aspect of sex; STDs, the Reproductive Systems and the act itself. Something that is IMO the most important activity that one can engage in reduced to diagrams on a piece of paper and scare tactics from teachers too scared (or unwilling) to bring matters of faith and/or spirituality into the discussion for fear of the political correctness brigade. In conjunction with this, people of all ages are subjected to a huge amount of sexual images from the media and television. Programs objectifying either gender and trivialising sex (Sex and the City for example) have further bridged the gap of understanding of alot of the younger generations. This has seen a massive increase in recent years and only looks like getting worse. Sexual education needs a more holistic approach, evidence of this is shown in the Netherlands where teen pregnancy rates are one (if not the) lowest in Europe. They have a very liberal attitude towards sex but their sexual education programs are forward thinking and far more engaging than those in England. When people are better informed and have a more mature attitude towards sex, things like this tend to happen less. Statistical evidence for this can easily be found online, you need not take my word for it. Telling someone they shouldn't have sex and then giving them free condoms won't change their attitude towards the act itself. The money spent subsidising all those free condoms is better spent elsewhere. Education.
  4. Ha! We were having a conversation in CC the other day about how the only way someone can make a 1 Def pure (as I assume you are from your signature) is if they are under the influence. :P
  5. Going by the appearance of the little guy, I doubt one would fit! :P Most chemists in the UK have "childrens" condoms. Stupid I know, but they're obligated to give condoms for FREE to anyone under the age of 16. All you have to do is walk in, and ask. Stating clearly that you're sexually active. This is one of the reasons why so many people are blaming "the state", personally I think society and attitudes are to blame. :| I feel sorry for the kid, no not the "parents", the child. When it grows up, school will be hell if the other kids know. That is terrible. I did Paediatric Nursing at Uni (in the UK) and never heard anything about that! I haven't worked in the field since qualifying though so it may have been introduced in that period. I understand the perceived need for such measures but IMO it is a big mistake. It sends out the wrong message and is just another sign of the spiritual and moral decline of society today.
  6. That's a great video. The final comparison between VY Canis Majoris and our Sun boggles the mind!

    Gun Control

Hey I'm sorry if my last post seemed a little rude, I've just read it back to myself and it's not very nice. I'm in the middle of something ATM but I will respond with some info/links/references in a bit.

    Gun Control

The vast majority of EU nations have far more restrictive firearms laws but have greater civil liberties. Lets face it, if the US government wanted to take away all your civil liberties they could, normal US gun-owning civilians is going out-gun the entire US military. This guns = civil liberties argument doesn't work nowadays. That is the most misguided comment I've seen in this thread. I would try and enlighten you but I CBA. If that's what you think then good luck to you.

    Gun Control

Once again, gun ownership is essential if you want to keep your civil liberties intact. Get rid of your guns and you'll turn into Great Britain (and worse) before you know it. Can anyone say police state?
  10. Going by the appearance of the little guy, I doubt one would fit! :P
  11. Why do you feel the need to give your opinion twice? So if the eternal nature of the universe is a cliche, what's ego-driven sarcasm?
  12. Thanks for the responses! For the cynics who belittle the size aspect of the picture I just ask you to consider this... Anyone and anything you've ever known, every concept of reality and every nuance, social or otherwise came in full from that tiny spec in that picture. I think many people who have replied here have failed to grasp my reason for posting this picture and the Sagan excerpt :). I didn't post it to highlight our apparent insignificance, it's my opinion that size does not amount to importance. This picture, to me, speaks of possibilities! There is a potentially infinite number of worlds in the Universes (plural please!) with an infinite amount of possibilities. It is theoretically possible for anything to be possible! Doesn't that make you think? :)
  13. The image of Earth below is courtesy of NASA and was taken by Voyager 1, 4 billion miles away! When I first saw this picture, my immediate reaction was something close to fear. I've spent many a sleepless night thinking about everything that this picture implies; about us, and how the petty things humanity is concerned with mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. The philosopher Carl Sagan says of this picture: Any time I ever feel like giving up I look this quote up. It's such a powerful statement and deliciously apt. Some say that this photograph trivialises humanity but, to me, this photograph represents the wonder that is the universe and the certainty that there is so much more to the mystery that we call life than what we see around us on a daily basis. I just thought I'd put this out there for those who haven't seen [the picture] and see what you all think! JiM :)
  14. I do generally have alot of time for your posts 3HU, but on this occasion I have to disagree with you. Do you have any reasoning to back up this comment?
  15. I'm very pleased that the new CEO is taking a lead role in PR. Way back before RS2, it wasn't uncommon to see Andrew and Paul ingame, playing jokes on the active community, goin on IRC on a semi-regular basis and whatnot. It was the involvement of the Dev team in community relations that helped RS to become what it is today and I'm glad they finally seemed to have realised that a secretive and difficult to contact design and support team isn't the right way to go about keeping your fan/customer base happy. A big thumbs up from me and fingers crossed this isn't just a means of appeasing the population with promises that won't be kept!
  16. It's possible but highly improbable to win every single game you play in 44 hours, so it's moot.
  17. I must admit that at first, I too was a little worried about the rewards... After playing about 10 hours of the game now I think it is completely fair and balanced. The XP seems to increase on a decent scale and the game can be hard work at times. I'm currently getting about 7.5k per 1 zeal for hits, at 95. It's a nice amount and IMO it's about time higher levels got some relevant content. OP: Don't worry! ;)
  18. So you spammed, thus breaking a rule. You're then muted for it... and Jagex over moderate?
  19. Not hits xp? I've got some insane hits xp for my Ranger since release!
  20. To answer the OPs question: No. May I also suggest changing the thread headliner to "Knee-jerk post update 'RS is dying' thread #850000!"?
  21. That is one epic video dude... I sat open mouthed in amazement when it finished... Rah!
  22. LOL. Anyway, overall I think this is excellent! He seems on the ball from his writings and they're on the right track with many of the improvements. It's a good time to be playing RS IMO! :D
