  1. I found back when I was at school that RS interfered with my school work in a big way. However, with RL personal relationships I think it's helped me no end. I've played with my cousin for almost 8 years - before we started playing we were like most normal siblings of around the same age and fought like cat and dog. After a few months of having a shared interest we became best friends and it's stayed that way since. For the people who made fun out of the guy who said that RS taught him alot about the US economy, I suggest you take a look at how your government (or the priv company that is the Fed) create your money and then tell me how Jagex/RS is any different. :)
  2. All F2P teleports lead you to dangerous areas.. Except for Lumbridge teleport! Assuming they aren't [developmentally delayed], and want to live, they'll teleport to Lumbridge. Bring a few Lumbridge teleports with you, and attack them as they attempt to run.. You can attack in safe zones if they just got out of combat (run, teleport, ect.). Try it out. :) I use Varrock for emergency teleports in F2P, it's easy to get to either bank without getting PK'd with protect prayers!
  3. I've seen the odd one or two be slightly rude. I daren't pass judgement on them for it tho, God knows what stupidly irritating questions they get asked throughout the course of a day. I have heard numerous stories from other people regarding abuses of power and the lack of Player-Mod accountability though, but again, I've always found them rather nice! ^^
  4. I think your opinions are ill thought-out and stupid. That's not a personal attack it's a statement of fact. If you put your words out on a public forum you''ll be subject to critiques from other readers. It's life, deal with it. This is what I mean by a stupid argument. Do you think Jagex want you to raise cooking purely through cooking, without using any other skill? Of course they don't. So you're lending your view on why skillcapes are making some skills redundant but at the same time you say "maybe it's not like that now but...". Whatever mate. Keep whining. Games evolve, things change. Don't like it? You know what to do.
  5. Firstly, things change. You understand that Danqazmlp, right? One day a skill might be highly profitable and the next something comes out that changes that equilibrium and thus said skill loses its value for profit. Yes, the addition of skillcapes caused the profit from some skills to decline but it also increased the demand exponentially for many, many items. All the flavour of the month tip.it whiners seem to have forgotten about that. (That means you, Danqazmlp). It's also apparent that during its construction you chose to leave out many possible points that would serve to invalidate your argument. As far as I'm aware, it's possible to make a decent profit from every skill if it's levelled wisely without trying to do it in 5 minutes flat. Do you disagree? You said you'd address my post specifically, and I shall act in kind with your responses: I've already established that it is still very possible to make a decent profit in most skills whilst levelling so that comment is irrelevant. I train skills to make money and for recognition - as I'm sure most people do. Quite a simple concept don't you think? So you want to make millions off of a skill in a day and you think it's fair? You're not doing much to distance yourself from these FotM whiners are you? "Skillcapes ruined a skill coz you can't make millions in a day". That's an epic fail of a whine there, mate. Also, when defending your intelligence I think it would be prudent to atleast employ the use of a spellcheck. Thanks for adding your incredible wealth of stupidity to my original point.
  6. I feel that although there are good reasons stated by (very few) posters in this post, the rest are just bandwagon whiners. (Which is to be expected with the general RS community I suppose...) Does anyone remember the pre-skillcape era where one would spend days upon days working towards a skill and then, once 99 was achieved... NOTHING! No skillcape, no recognition unless you made a post about it... What's the point in that? You'd hardly make more money out of that 1.2m more xp from 98-99 most of the time. Some have said (read: whined) that skillcapes "destroyed all the best moneymaking skills"... To you, I say: cry more noob. If that's what you think - you deserve to wallow in your public displays of self pity, disguised as a "game balance issue". I have only been posting here a month and already I've noticed that for the most part, intelligent players of RS stay away from these boards. Most of the people in this post couldn't string a decent, balanced argument together if it hit them in the nose. Without skillcapes what would you have? Less than what you do now - and then you'd be moaning about that.
  7. JIM replied to l0rd's topic in Rants
One suggestion would be to implement an option to switch between aggressive/non-aggressive stance.
  8. LOL, I bring a cannon with a few hundred cannonballs to Bandits so I don't have to hop worlds. I know it's rude - I just find the whines oddly satisfying.
  9. Anyone got any links for info on Mechscape?
  10. JIM replied to cease's topic in General Guides
Just because someone put a thread up doesn't mean masses of people will read it, and most of the people who read this won't do it anyway. I'll leave you to your own council - naivety isn't a virtue I choose to covet.
  11. JIM replied to cease's topic in General Guides
Of course they allow it or it wouldn't be done so blatantly. Do you think it'll continue to work as intended if every item worth more than 100K is horded by the masses tho? I don't think so.
  12. JIM replied to cease's topic in General Guides
It's a good method! I wonder how long Jagex will allow this to happen tho, a few people exploiting this should have been expected and is commonplace in real world markets. However, everyone clocking on and doing it may cause problems for the GE and prices in general... ...it's not gonna stop me from continuing to do it tho!
  13. Having been on the receiving end of this tactic a few times on PvP recently, I have to say I find it a bit lame. It looks fun tho! :P
  14. ATM I'm ranging Aviansies in the GWD and I find it immensely fun! There's something about 500k gp p/hour whilst earning decent range xp that really does it for me.
  15. Like I said in my previous post - your time does not equate to anything of value UNLESS there is a signed contract between two parties in which one agrees to exchange currency/goods/services for the others time, at a predetermined rate. The time the boy spent getting the items does not immediately become some sort of 'gold standard', making the items "stolen" objects of VALUE in the REAL world. The question here is: Do you think that something that is not tangible (IE. it doesn't actually exist in the sense that you can hold it in your hands and 'feel' it) should be assigned value, equal to currency or possesions? I stand by my previous assertion that assigning intangible objects/items value is a dangerous path. (I know we basically do it with money in our financial system, but that's besides the point and a different point entirely!)
  16. I'm sure they started out with a surplus of servers online in anticipation of the initial rush that was expected - with plans to reduce the number once the novelty wears off for those that aren't dedicated PKers.
  17. Being a massive patron of Range in P2P I definately think it should be given a boost F2P. I like to go F2P as part of a group/duo but there's really no point solo. Yea I do nice damage but it's not fast enough to get any decent kills. IMO, keep Addy arrows but allow the option of Yew bows.
  18. Has anyone stopped to think about the wider implications of this yet? "They" (IE. they who control public opinion through the media and are slowly but surely eroding internet freedoms) are policing the internet at an increasing rate. I don't know about the US press but in England, ne'er a week goes by without a column/double page spread on the dangers of the internet. "YOUR KIDS ARE IN DANGER FROM PAEDOPHILES", "RAPE ON YOUTUBE" and headlines of the same ilk are regularly seen. What purpose does all of this serve? I ask you all to do a small bit of research on Google and Youtube about some new plans proposed for the internet. Some high-ranking businessman in the world of communications, aswell as some other well-placed sources claim that there are plans to make the internet a 'subscription' service, much in the same way pay-per-view cable TV is today. There have also recently been various mergers and takeovers between large, well known internet names (Google and Youtube being one such example). If you look to the higher echelons of business, you will see that many companies both on the internet and other, are owned by the same few groups of people. I urge you all to do some research for yourselves on this subject. This all relates to the original topic when you look at the wider picture. There is a systematic assault on the internet coming from all sides. It is a very dangerous thing when the governments of any country start legislating on the internet... History shows us that when the government acts, it acts with a heavy hand. Broad, highly interpretable laws are passed that act as blanket laws for a multitude of 'crimes'. The recent British "anti-terrorism act" being one such example. ANYONE, can be arrested for a broad array of offenses, the least of which being "Acting suspiciously". How, may I ask, is that a criminal act in a 'free' society? To punish these children for stealing someone's 'online property' they would have to recognise said property as having REAL value in the REAL world. Yes, your time does equal money but only when a contractual agreement has been co-signed by two corporate entities (look up the legal definition of a "person") agreeing that one is giving their time to the other, in exchange for currency. Arguing that in this instance it has worth doesn't correlate with this basic tenet of commerce. I also think assigning value to something that isn't tangible is VERY dangerous. Why could they not have charged the kids with crimes relating to abduction, carrying dangerous weapons with intent etc etc? They want to get their grubby little hands on the internet that's why! I'm sorry for the kid in question too BTW, growing up in a scummy part of London I was a victim of knife muggings/violence a few times and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
  19. It's all well and good coming up with a hypothetical situation that has no real basis in reality to strengthen your point, but when it comes down to it, how many times have you seen that happen? I've played for almost 8 years and not once have I ever come up against (or seen, for that matter) anyone who has done anything near that. Not ever. As far as I can tell, most people who PK use prayer and food but there are hundreds, if not thousands, of kills per day. Very rarely do we get the stalemates all those against pray and food claim to see/have. If these things make PKing as ineffective as claimed, please explain the PvP servers. Thanks.
  20. When someone hits you, you lose HP. When you lose HP we're given food to replenish our HP. When said someone hits you for a 40 with their AGS and you know there's more to come, you eat again. If said person hit 50+ I then choose to use a defense prayer to hedge my bets, aswell as eating food. Can anyone here really say I'm 'wrong' or a 'pray nub' for doing so? I raise prayer, it raises my combat level. Thus, I use it in combat. Is that such a hard concept to grasp? I am completely stumped as to where the argument here is. Is it because you can't kill me in 2 hits when I do these things? Is it because YOU personally don't do these things? What is it? I haven't seen anything that even ventures at a decent argument against food and prayer at all yet. Not that I expected to... The kiddies who play this game will whine about absolutely anything.
  21. Nobody pays $6 to use claws, snakeskin armor, smithable spears, halberds [excluding Dragon], or anything else that you don't ever bother using in your bank. I say F2P doesn't "deserve" anything more than it already has and you say... that? How does that apply to my comment?
  22. I'm of the opinion that F2Pers should stop demanding stuff. You don't pay, you have a great game that's free as it is and you're lucky to have got what you did with the PvP update. I'm sorry if you feel this is dismissive but I don't see why you feel you "deserve" anything. How many other games can you name that have as much free content as RuneScape F2P? And for as long as RS has? It's £3.50. Cough up or shhhh!
  23. So, PKing isn't about survival? Surely if you don't survive, you can't kill? You can't do one without the other.
