  1. Allegedly you can get it as a rare drop from killing ghosts and other ghost-type monsters. Allegedly. Haha actually I can confirm that it does drop, I looked into it and killed a bunch of ghosts. 2.5x is crazy, I can afford 99 prayer now o.O
  2. Oh holy crap I missed an event that gives f2p the ability to get 2.5x exp on bones... This makes me a sad panda.
  3. Hey guys, just checking in! Since I've last logged in here it seems that Lord Slayas has stepped down as the maintainer of the list and I just want to thank him (and everyone else who helped!) for all his hard work and effort into keeping the F2P legacy alive! To the new maintainer(s?) of the list, hello! Here is an update with my stats, I haven't been on in a while but I figured I should get myself back on the new list! Thanks again for everything you guys!
  4. Holy crap, I take a few weeks off to study for midterms and I come back to this?? First off, Lord Slayas It can't have been easy to make the "Final Decision" on things like this yourself even if you had help with figuring out what to do. I feel that you made the best choice with the available options we have here so for that I must say thank you! If not for your efforts and the people who maintain this list, I'd bet that many of us would have disappeared, never to be seen again by now. Regarding this pretty massive change to this game we play, I'm putting my money on the fact that most people on this list will not be tempted to bother with the new levels. I seriously doubt more than a few percent of the people who have come this far as a F2P will really care about a few new things to mess around with. People have all sorts of reasons for not even becoming a member, mine pretty much started when dragon weapons first came out and I saw how the exp rates for members training F2P combat skills was basically 50%-100% faster with the new weapons. At the time it just reeked of an obvious hook to gain members, so I just vowed to never give Jagex a dime out of petty spite! It pretty much just stuck as I saw members getting more and more and more exp per hour and here we are. If you are a pure F2P and you want to get the 5's I think you are perfectly justified in doing so (F5P? lol), as the new content is technically F2P now. However, I also think a lot of the older-school kids among us will refrain for a variety of reasons, and as long as there are no crazy advantaged to using the new content I think we can all get along! Just have to see how this plays out I guess.
  5. I have always figured the removal of f2p highscores was just another petty Jagex move to shove another reason to become members down our throats, as usual. Saying it was about bots was just an easy story to tell everyone. I have a pretty cynical view of Jagex on the whole however, so yeah. Gotta say I'm still pretty undecided on the whole EoC thing. F2p doesn't change much, so when we get any update I'm usually pretty grateful, but once again there is a devaluation of the exp we have earned up to this point. Drop all is crazy. That said, change is refreshing, and Dungeoneering just got a whole lot more reasonable (no more level 90+ combat exp nerf!) so that's nice. Also it's fairly easy to continue training combat in the old style with momentum, but regardless this EoC business is here to stay. Just gotta roll with it and adapt I suppose.
  6. Also, I guess Ill throw up my skiller here as well, since he's pure f2p too! Some of you might be interested in his stats, they are pretty cool :D
  7. Hey guys its been a while. Just a small update here, but I just finished 99 fishing to round out 1500 skill total! L0RD Slaya, the last time I posted here we were the same skill total :P You've been busy!
  8. I think the change to the level requirement is fine over all, but it kills like 3 of my side accounts that have funky stats... One has 40 defence, attack, and range with 9hp, its gonna be brutal grinding out the lamps again. :(
  9. Just thought I would post up my stats, I was sad to see the original list go but this is great work! Thanks for all the effort you are putting into this, its something everyone knew had to be done, but no one really wanted to put in the work! I really want to round off my Dungeoneering to 80 to have a beautiful 1500 stats so nice and rounded, but Diablo 3 is still a new thing to I'm busy with that :P
  10. Ahem! I would just like to take this opportunity to invite you all to the world of pure F2P players! Considering that most game content updates do not affect F2P, why not take this time to express your outrage! Your indignation! Disgust! At Jagex and play in a world where (almost) nothing changes! Skills aren't hardcore buyable, and for the most part, it is a level playing field (except for bots, but they aren't people anyways so we don't need to give a crap about them!) Yes, it's boring coming from a members point of view, but that's just the addiction talking! You'll be better in no time! Everything just looks better with time, and you don't have worry about any crazy updates affecting you, you don't exist because you have no money! In the end, F2p and P2P are the same! At the end of the day its just clicking, pixels, and numbers! So yes, come one, come all! Join F2P! It's the Runescape you knew, the one you started with, the one you grew up with! Really guys, come on! We need more F2P! ... Anybody? lol. Well hopefully ONE person makes the switch because of my heartfelt words! As for the SoF, I would echo the general sentiment about it being terrible and greasy and money grabby, but really someone else said it a bit earlier in this thread and it is what prompted me to post; the intelligent ones, the informed consumer, the people who can all see past the ridiculous crap and the horribly, OBVIOUSLY broken logic for explaining things as Jagex does these days, **we are not the target audience anymore**. Jagex needs/wants to bring in new blood, and these stupid juvenile tactics are suited, well, most probably for the kids who I'm guessing they are focusing their efforts at capturing. Wording like that used in the ridiculous feed back letter probably seems perfectly fine and justified and great to kids/people new to the game, and those who are OUTRAGE!@!!!!!!! are still here (for the most part), so whatever gets the job done right? Once you are a long time player, they don't really need to do much more to convince you to stay. Getting new players would probably yield much more profitability than doing the things that just keep everyone happy. A lot of the recent events do alienate and enrage many people, but most of those same angry outraged people are still playing. Probably over 99% of them, if i had to guess. I cant say i didn't see it coming, these money grabbing tactics are essentially part of the reason I stayed f2p for 10 years or whatever it has been, because that's how I viewed membership when it came out. Pay money for a unfair advantage, getting MUCH faster exp (omfg can you believe dragon longsword? broken omg), so I stayed out. Anyways this entire SoF process has been TERRIBLE and lame and everything, but at the end of the day, money is number one! Every time I hear about things like this happening to Runescape I am always reminded about how I read somewhere that a venture capital investment group has taken the majority ownership share in rs, and I remember reading on wikipedia that they specialized in essentially running games into the ground, grabbing all the stacks of cash they can on the way down. It might not be true, but it doesn't seem to be too far off the mark. Sorry for the wall of text! One benefit of living in the gutter is that when you get some crap thrown on you, you don't really care, you're already filthy! (Join F2P! :^_^: )
  11. I'm officially back on! Please add "Krazyck" to the list :) 1444 skill total
  12. You still need to switch items like every 6-7 items made, if you really want to maximize exp. I really love this update though, a skill that is a pain to train is now open to anyone basically. I dont really think its worth having to switch items when you gain 103.5 per bar vs 111 (or 113) per bar, since you will get the right command 1/4th of the time if you make any random item. i would prefer to sacrifice the extra 8 exp for the freedom to do other things! though if you wanted to really get the most out of it, you have the option to pay attention too!
  13. Its stupidly good imo, considering the LACK of concentration you need to do it. I was getting around 40-50k/h when i did it, that workshop has made smithing laughable easy now, which *guess* is fine considering how easy it already was in members.
  14. Voted like it but disappointed with some aspects. The blatant members advertising and sloppy exp nerf of high levels offends me, but hey whatcha gonna do. Also, in with the "this is not a skill" crowd.
  15. Man this list.. I've been on and off of it so many times because I stop playing for a few months and POOF gone! Got kicked off again after a few months of activity but I should be back quite soon! I'm about to finish 80-90 crafting which should juuuuuust barely be enough. Thanks for all the great work on this list guys, really glad to see people watching out for those getting exp on members servers, because as we all know here, members is OP.
  16. They haven't always been the same speed. Daggers used to be faster than a short sword, and short swords faster than scims. I guess this must have changed a while ago and I just never noticed.
  17. I dont know when this happened, but I just found out that the weapon speed of the short sword and dagger have been reduced to that of a scimitar. There's not a whole lot to choose from in terms of weapons in f2p, and now the FEW weapons that we do have, have been nerfed even more? Are you freakin kidding me? I find this absolutely ridiculous and quite annoying actually, and I've looked for answers but have found none. Can anyone explain why a dagger is the same speed as a scimitar now, cause I dont freakin get it.
  18. Finally, after many years, I have made it back to the list! Im currently 1326 skill total, im not sure if thats enough now, but the current list shows that the bottom ranked person is 1324, though im sure that will change when it updates.. anyways, Ill get on here one way or another, so keep an eye out! :P
  19. i agree \ u would rock! awesome story! : To these guys and everyone else who are saying I should write more, thanks hah! I haven't though about writing here, but it might be something I may try, given the pretty positive feedback I've recieved so far. I like being fairly casual in the way I write, so its almost like I'm talking to the reader personally. I might look into the process and give it a shot once once im finished my exams and such.
  20. Haha all these people saying its not a true story :P It is a true story, in the sense that it actually happened. I actually was in Edgeville chopping yews, and I really did convince someone that all of this was true, and he actually went off to go kill himself over and over again. Obviously, what I said is not true, but I would have thought that would be implied. I wrote it up because I thought it was funny enough to be worth sharing with you guys. Also, I suppose I should clarify, I don't hate newbs. People who are new to the game are perfectly fine with me. Newbs and Noobs are two different things, and while I never use the word Noob ingame ever, I figured people would understand what I meant here.
  21. This is the true story of the death of a noob. Everyone hates them; they beg, they whine, they annoy. You feel slightly sorry for them, because hey, we've all been there, but you look past those feelings since, unlike you, they haven't learned yet. And we need to teach them a lesson. It was a fine and glorious day cutting yews in the corner of Edgeville. I was going merrily about my own way retrieving chunks of timber and depositing them in the local bank's storage room. Feeling good about my growing wood, (insert joke here) I observed one of the most common daily occurrence in the world of Runescape. "Give me some of your hard earned money for no reason other than that I am too lazy to get it myself, and for some reason I believe I am entitled to an easier time playing this game than everyone else!" (Translation) "plz giv free money,im poor i need" "plz" Yes, we have all seen it. It happens all around us, and if you are rich looking enough, it happens to you! Now, this wasnt being asked of me, I was simply observing, but finally his attention was turned to me after being rejected by the other person present. Keep in mind, however, that he was cutting yews with us while he begged. I decided, after a barrage of "plz" and "noob" sometimes ironically in the same sentence, to do something about it. I had been formulating this plan for a while now, and had finally put all the pieces together for the perfect trap. This kid was annoying, and he was going to pay. The other person was trying to explain how skills were the path to success in Runescape. This lead to Nermal (he needed a name, and yes as in the Nermal from Garfield) inquiring as to how he might obtain level 99 Woodcutting so he could get rich. He wanted it quick, and he wanted it fast. After I explained the amount of effort involved in obtaining 99 in anything, he dismissed it and asked again for free cash. Oh Nermal. You just never learn. I changed gears and dropped down to his level. I explained to him, there is one way you could get 99 Woodcutting and get it fast. However, the secret to this method was well guarded and could not be passed unto just anyone. If the masses knew about this technique, chaos would ensue and destruction would be left in its wake. However, he could be one of the Enlightened few, chosen to guard this secret of secrets, if he had it in him... for the mere fee of 5,000 gold coins! At first, he agreed to receive the pearls of wisdom I had to give him, but on the condition that he would pay me afterwards. This was not going to fly with me, and I informed him as such. He attempted to bargain with me, saying that he was so poor that 1,000 gold coins were all he could afford to spare for the divine truth. Unfortunately, he was shut down quickly, as I reminded him that such information was near priceless, and that I would not budge on my price. After some deliberation, he agreed hesitantly to pay the fee. That could have been the end of the story. I could have laughed in his face, called him a noob, and ended it there. However, I set out to teach him a lesson, not to steal chump change from a chump. I intended to keep my promise. He began frantically asking me to keep my end of the bargain, as he did not want to seem a fool for having given 5000 gold coins to a scammer. I began, much to his relief, to explain what I knew. I told him that the only way he could achieve his wish was to conquer Death itself. Doing this of course, was not an easy task, and it was something that only the wisest of the wise in the lands of Runescape knew about. In conquering Death, He would be permitted to speak with Death himself, and execute the sacred rite of the Soul Exchange. He would have the chance to sell his soul for his one true wish. In doing so, he would be subjected to the same fate as I, and that was to have his soul reaped by the Reaper. When this ritual was performed, the Soulless one forfeits his life to Death, and has his Hitpoints level reduced to 9 permanently, as punishment for this unholy trade. I declared my own Hitpoints level, which happens to be 9 using the quickchat feature, offering proof of this deed. Nermal accepted this without question. On top of defaulting your Hitpoints level to Death, you would be given the tool of the Reaper, the Scythe. This was to prove that you have forsaken yourself and submitted to the will of Death. The Scythe that I had in my possession was proof of this. Having fully explained all of the negatives, Nermal wanted to know what to say to Death. I simply told him that he would have to say what was in his heart, and that I could not be the one to say it for him. He agreed and asked the final question. How do I conquer Death? How could I summon the ultimate icon of fear, the Reaper himself? I will explain it to you Nermal, on one condition. You swear to secrecy. This information has been passed down from generation to generation of the sages, and only bestowed upon those who truly deserve to know. I put myself at great risk telling you this, but I believe you to be trustworthy, and a true adventurer. Do you swear to never tell another soul about this information? "yeah!" So be it. The secret technique, guarded by the sages to surpass the level of mere mortal and attain supreme mastery of the Self and Death, is...! Death. You must Die. And not only must you die, you must die One Thousand times over, to prove to yourself and the Gods that you have full mastery over Death. If you manage to complete the sacred rite, Death himself will appear before you and all that I have said will become your reality. It will not be easy, and you will face much hardship. However, I believe you to be strong of will, and I believe that you will have what it takes to complete this quest! I cannot speak to you ever again after this, as it must never be known that it was I who gave to you this information, so you will be alone on your journey. You must be brave, and you must never give up! Now off! Off with you my friend! And off he went.
  22. 1292. Im almost back on the list, only a few more to go! 8-)
  23. THIS IS THE GREATEST UPDATE TO THE F2P WORLD IN YEARS, THANK YOU JAGEX. seriously YEARS.
  24. Heh, don't take this too seriously. I just thought it was an interesting way of looking at things. It got kinda out of hand as I was writing it and it ended up pretty long and whimsical, but it was mostly just for fun so take it as you will. VIVA LA REVOLUTION. Haha cazwise, I remember your name from way back when as well. It's been a while since I've posted, but I can tell this thread is just going downhill from here.
  25. This was originally intended to be a response to a different thread about Runescape dying, but I thought that there were some interesting points here some people might like to read. I have been thinking about this for a while, and while I never bothered to write them out, the other thread gave me a reason to. There is a lot more behind what I have written here, but you can get the gist of what I'm talking about. There are a lot of words here! Runescape is scary. It is crazy to think how far it has come from its simple origins, from the original DeviousMUD to the HD version we have today (for now.) It's pretty sick. Graphically better versions will continue to be released in relation to the current level of technology. The graphics pretty much reflect the lowest common denominator of current computers, which are exponentially increasing in power, and lowering in cost. A Jagex employee stated that the only reason the graphics are not better than they are now is because it makes more sense to have the game accessible to the largest market. By raising the computing power requirements, you lose a large part of the market, especially with so many kids playing who might not have fancy computers. The fact that it can be played on any computer with an Internet connection is amazing. Perfect really, since it means that anyone with a computer has a Runescape capable console (which is basically everyone.) The perfect medium and format to release it upon. Runescape is simply way, way too profitable for Jagex. If it ever started to seriously lose population, Jagex will simply change the rules/game to attract more players. They could just bring back pking in its old form, remove trade restrictions, and stop caring about RWT to attract people. It would work, since people who quit would eventually find out about the changes, (checking back, word of mouth, etc) thus gaining old players back, along with tons of new ones. If that didnt work, they could do a whole slew of other things that would bring people in and back. Jagex will never let the game die. They have servers in 14 different countries worldwide, with more on the way. Millions of players. The owners are multi-multi-millionaires. It's free. Runescape is like a virus that has infected the world, and it cannot be destroyed. It has started spawning different versions of itself (Mechscape, Funorb), different strains you might call them, that will infect other markets of people. Ironically you could call this virus airborne since it is passed on by word of mouth. Its design is flawless, in that after you play the free version, you (can) get hooked enough to justify paying for it. After you start paying, you become more addicted and want to continue playing, otherwise you have wasted the money you put into it. Withdrawal is harsh for the addict, and many people who quit come crawling back for more. So, in essence, the game is an airborne virus with powerful drug-like qualities and addictiveness that is 100% electronic, and it is now leaking out into real life in the form of game cards, as well as the potential for TV commercials and other advertising ventures. Runescape may take over the world. With all this in mind, I still play Runescape. I have vowed to never pay for this game, and I never will for a few reasons, but this is definitely one of them. It's scary. Imagine when virtual reality is accessible and every computer is capable of it. Im not telling people to quit members, as there are tons of incentives and bonuses given to paying members, but thats sort of the point isn't it. I would like to think of myself as watching rather than playing the game, as it is really interesting to have seen what it has evolved into since it started. The only questions are where will it go and will it ever stop. I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as you've enjoyed the ride.
