  1. I would be willing to help graphically(I do excellent maps), and dialogue/plot/ect. I can't code particularly well, though simple decision trees, that kinda thing, I can do...Could probably pick up whatever interface you were using given a few Q&A sessions. We could also use the BYOND system as a base. http://www.byond.com/developer/ I think we should probably state from the very beginning who is in charge of the project, aka who gets the final say on things, and anyone who works on the project should agree to abide by that person's decisions. So, questions: What sort of game? What setting? Party based or MORPG?
  2. Only thousand page worth of books, worth reading are: Dreadnought, by Massie, which is basically the entire Victorian Age, and the pre-war period. The Commonwealth Saga, by Hamilton. Night's Dawn Trilogy, by Hamilton. The Void Trilogy, by Hamilton. Hitler and Stalin: Parallel lives, by Bullock. Also, what is up with Dust Covers! Seriously, they have no purpose other than to be a pain to keep on the darned book! That said, give me a hardback over paperback anyday.
  3. Thats not the point. The point is that nobody, bar you and Wyvern, actually cares that much. So what conclusions can we draw from this? Hmmm?
  4. I had sorta guessed it was a cape in my analysis, but first thought was 'Why is he throwing up at that strange green thing?'
  5. Sort of looks like he is throwing up... Also, Bonfire in mid-air? (I am guessing Meteor, but it is far too flat at the bottom) And glowing green button, with a strange blue??? Stars a somewhat out of focus too....(Stars should always be shown sharp, since they are tiny pinholes of light...so there is nothing to really be fuzzy...(Also red stars?(Yes, ok, Star scenes are a mild obsession))) I, er, like the Grass though
  6. The Next Generation: 1091 to 1120 [hide] With the Dukedom rightfully inherited by Nicholas von Alaric, and the death of his father, Nicholas is finally able to let go of all the emotions that had been weighing him down for so long...Yet, there was one outstanding issue...Greg. Not at all pleased at losing his claim to the title, Greg demanded some recognition for his status, and so, begrudgingly, he gave Greg the Rostockian Countship. His wife, Berta, naturally finds this unpallatable and several weeks pass before she says another word to him, though is finally won over when a ball is held in her honour...Yet the ball costs a great deal and soon enough Nicholas is indebted to the local counts, who soon demand a tax raise to cover their debt. Nicholas refuses, unwilling to deprive the peasants of their spare cattle. As the nominal taxs trickle in things the local counts grumble at the happy peasants, but for Nicholas such concerns are far away. With a child on the way Duke Nicholas looks over the latest reports from England, noting that the war has all but ended, with the Kingdom more or less intact. Yet, while he peruses these reports another enemy, closer to home, is on the march! The battle is soon won however, with Marshal Henrik capturing the Island of Rugan in two months. A peace is signed soon after, and the realm shines as an example to its neighbours: A success that the young Duke is eager to show off. In England the fighting intensifies once again And closer to home Jackalyne is born. Mere days later Greg's wife, Mor, is pregnate, and not wishing to be outdone, Berta is soon too. Nine months later two girls are born. On the Island of Rugan the peasants abandon their heathen Gods. The news of war to the East, South and North prompting them to chose a rightous God no doubt. With Rugan behind them the Armies of Holstien push south into Wolgast, and victory awaits them. Finally, the Duchy of Meckenburg is reunited, and God smiles upon this, blessing Nicholas with a Son, Oliver. Soon the Armies of Kola, a vast tribe to the east, and former lords of Wolgast, land, but are repulsed with great ease. The light of God burning the heathens with great ease, acting through the army of the Kingdom of Denmark. However all is not well in Denmark. The King, Harald Svendson Knytling has been ill with Pnumonia for several years now, and at the ripe old age of seventy he has reigned for nigh on fifty years. His death, shortly after the peace accords are signed with the savages to the east is a bitter blow for Denmark...the end of an Era. While the young Count of Holstien, the dead King's Son, struggles to take control of his new realm, the county of Stettin makes an all too fatal mistake in declaring independance. Marshal Henrik, Hero of Holstien, readies his army in Wolgast and crosses into enemy territory one summers morning. The army that faces them is barely fifty men strong, and within minutes the battle is over. But as he settles in for a short siege a runner arrives for the savages within. Henrik shows a slight mercy and puts the man to a quick death before reading his letter...It seems that Stettin has accepted Vassalisation from the Tavasts! Back in Lubeck two messangers arrives for Nicholas...A declaration of war...and a declaration of peace. The spinless Earnest Knytling saw fit to cut short the war with Stettin to focus on the still raging war with Kola. Henrik is agast when the news finally reaches him and instead of returning home he sets sail for Viborg(Finland), home of the Tavasts...There will be blood yet this day! And yet, there is not. The armies of Tavast are busy engaging the Danish in the Empire of Kola, leaving not even a garrison behind. Henrik sweeps through both counties with decided ease, and in a final deseperate bid to see battle, unilaterally declares war on Kexholm, where his bloodlust is sated, finally. As Henrik sails home from his extented tour, Nicholas visits his brother in Rostock, and is pleased to note the riots and smallpox epidemic have both ended, but is left with a somewhat bitter taste in his mouth when he is introduced to young Xavia, the son of Greg... With Oliver and Xavia as heirs to the two half brothers it is unlikely that the Duchy will be reunited anytime soon. And within a year two more sons are born, one to each of the half brothers, near enough ensuring a parting of ways, though both are also dead before their second birthday. 'So perhaps not.' Nicholas coldly reflects on the news that his half cousin, Elliot, has died. To the South the Bishop of Altmark declares independance from Germany for the third time in so many years. But this time it is not German troops from Anhalt or Brandenburg that silence the fool, but Danish, crossing the Elbe, Marshal Henrik naturally leading the charge. There is no vassalisation this time, just annexation. The lands, though riotous and soon to be taken by another, were still holy lands, and Nicholas is left pondering this for some time...Were those reasons reasons enough? Should he have supported the independace of the fool priest? He didn't know, but was unwilling to surrender the lands merely to have them annexed by another in a few years. Instead he vowed never to take carnal delight for the rest of his life. Yet this vow is misconstrewn by Ernst Knytling as a sign of weakeness, and soon troop demands flood in. The proud Duke Nicholas von Alaric refuses these demands in the strongest terms. The war with Kola is a hopeless one, one that has raged more than a decade, and has no end in sight. He will not allow his men, brave men, to die on the battlefields to take worthless lands. The King is not impressed, to say the least and in the months that follow commits nothing but words to Holstien's wars. In the west young Tiberius, the Duke's other half brother, has been married to the Countess of Luneberg for some years, and following her break with the vast Kingdom of Leon, Duke Nicholas feels it is only right that he protect his half brother's wife, and soon offers vassalisation. She is reluctant at first, having seized Hamburg by herself, but as an army of some six thousand troops approach from Braunschweig, she finally yields, allowing Holstien to come to her aid. The war lasts five months, and in that time the armies of Holstien face an enemy three times the size of its own. The only thing standing between them and total defeat is Henrik and the potential relief of Denmark...The latter is not forthcomming. Instead a masterly win in Luneburg, supported by the small army of Luneburg, leads to a rout of the Army of Leon, and eventual peace for the token tribute of 6 gold peices. But, with the armies of Leon spent fighting Holstien, and visa versa, the Kingdom of Germany soon declares war on Luneburg and Leon. Only by taking the countship of Luneburg from the Countess could it be saved, and though promised restoration she and her husband fled to Mainz. On the Northern front Greg and the county of Rostock declared war on Denmark. And thus, unable to fight his half-brother and unable to fight his liege, Nicholas left the Kingdom of Denmark for the Kingdom of Germany, and soon this proved a wise decision when he was announced second in line for succession in the Kingdom. What was more, within two years a royal marriage to the great granddaughter of the First in line for succession had bore fruit. Though it was Great-Uncle Henrik's line, so it appeared unlikely that, even if young Tom rose to the most powerful vasselship of Germany, the chances of the two wings of Holstien ever joining would be rather unlikely. Another two years later Nicholas finally dies of old age, aged fifty three, warm in his bed, a life well spent. The Young Oliver von Alaric, aged 21, is now thrust into control of the second larged Dukedom in Germany. What will the future hold? The Dukedom of 1120: The state of things in 1120: The Kingdom of Germany has been using our troops excessively to put down the rebellions across the Kingdom. However, Oliver, not nearly as much the Pragmatist of his Father is not so willing to allow his troops to be used in this way, and is already incredibly disloyal. Thusly: a) 1) 'My Father's Oaths must not be broken!' Allow good Holstien men to die in far off lands, paying full maintance. 2) 'It is for the Kingdom, not the King I do this' Begrudgingly allow Holstien men to die in far off lands, paying bare maintance. 3) 'They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!' Revolt. b) Europe is a land of Kingdoms, and with the French and Danish Kingdoms in England, Leon in Italy and France, and English in Germany and Spain, there seems to be little call for a united block country. Thusly: 1) 'United we stand, divided we fall' The Lands of Holstien will be limited to just the areas around the Elbe, at least until we gain control of Germany. 2) 'The Line Must be Drawn Here, This Far, No Further' Expansion in such an unstable period seems unwise. We should consolidate, focus on making Germany strong for when we inherit. 3) 'A Mission to Civilise' The throne of Germany is not worth pursuing at this time, we should focus on the heathens of Finland. c) The Count of Rostock is a bleeding fool! 1) 'Cut off his head! Cut of his Head!' Revoke Greg's right to rule Rostock. 2) 'I don't see what the fuss it about' Nothing happens. 3) 'SEP' Rostock is no longer our vassel. [/hide]

  8. As Retech steps up to accept his Emperor Laurels, an aqua blue light bathes the stage, and then two shots ring out. The light receeds and where Retech was standing there is now a pile of dust. Unde semper
  9. What is the point in arguing? Game time was set back because some people would get annoyed that they lost X number of days.
  10. I have no issue continuing. Ok. So. Lets say it is 2013. The great Sino-British war never happened. Keep Calm and Carry on.
  11. Or indeed bring the world 500 years into the past, as the world erupts into wars with poorly concieved technology and the supposed supremacy of Norway and the innevitable nuclear war when it invades America armed with 4,000 illegal planes. Stork: Just because it isn't doing what it was created to do, doesn't mean it isn't supposed to.
  12. Mather, I continue to point out that moving EVERY game with an argument in wouldn't solve any problems, you would just get a lot of people who disagree in one place... Let me rephrase that, you would create the Tavern times 80. Hegemony being a special case, for some reason.
  13. I hasten to point out that the Tavern is here to resolve the issue of the flametastic Hegemony... Beyond that it has no actual reason to exist. So I would say 'Games which promote aggressiveness and arguments between players' Which neither Forum games, nor Falador Library do.
  14. Darnation, ninjaed. Yeah, Admin's are the only one with the capacity (at least during my time) to actually allow players to post in the Library. It is due to changes when we did the forum change over.
  15. English is the English word for English. Its so funny, I practically fell out of my seat laughing. No wait, I have a sense of humour and don't consider random words to be excessively funny.
  16. So then I said 'I'm Norwegian' and everyone laughed.
  17. While your 'Intelligence' (Whole other debate there) may be high, your vocabulary, literacy and general language skills are woefully subpar if you find the mispronouncation of a mono-syllabic word to be humourous... ... Its like wandering around going '2+2=5, Lolz'. A dark day for those with an iota of respect for literature.
  18. Perfectly possible. But there is only so much you can do, and generally, when you get to the point where you ask other people to take over, you aren't helping any more, and will only end up resenting Lynx for it, and Lynx will pick up on your aggression, which puts her into a downwards spiral....Things that have already happened. And Nex, Lynx simply wants people to hate her because she has identified that she makes people unhappy. Ergo, rather than saying 'People like me' she says 'People hate me', people get upset that they are being cast incorrectly, the upset ferments into anger, the anger leads to hate...Hate leads to suffering.... Or that is the theory anyway.
  19. Well done, you have successfully reguritated what I said. The idea of an Anti-Ship missle, using all that technology, is, in many ways, laughable. Naval ships travel around 30-40 knots (around 54-72 kilometers per hour). Missiles travel about 1,200 kilometers per hour. Ergo, at the max range of the missile, about 130 kilometers(since it is 125+ on your page. It says 185 on mine, which would bump the time up to 9 minutes), it takes 6.5 minutes to reach the target. In that time the ship can move up to about 1.5 kilometers, assuming it is already travelling a full speed. Now, I am no expert in naval strategy, but if you are firing missiles at a range of 130 kilometers, travelling at a speed of 1,200 kilometers per hour...Then why do you need them to acquire their own targets? Are you just going to fire the missiles every 5 minutes, on the off chance the enemy warships are coming through? Wouldn't a missile with a camera in be more directly useful in this situation? Less expensive too. Ultimately I can see no real use to this as an Anti-Ship Missile. It just sounds like people coming up with an excuse to the: 'Why not just camoflage the target?' issue. Basically saying: 'Err, well, its targetted at boats, and you can't disguise a boat very easily.' And even then, this is fundermentally inaccurate. A tanker with an atomic bomb onboard will be bypassed by this missile. The only time this has anything approaching a usable value is if you are also engaging the enemy warships with several of your own warships, all of which are travelling at more than twenty knots, and the target has your IFF codes, so your missiles can't simply use them, and your launch platform is 125 kilometers from the target. Which, to my mind, isn't going to happen that often.... Unless you are fighting in Skagerrak, with your missiles based at Kristianland, against an enemy that wants to use the Baltic, and the Kiel Canal is blocked to their ships. Or your Lighening II planes are flying about, at night, when suddenly their aircraft carried is sunk, and they need to instantly retaliate by firing their missiles in the general direction the missiles that sunk the aircraft carrier came from... For the purposes of destroying ships in dock, or moving slower than 20 knots, or without your IFF codes, or if the enemy hasn't managed to sneak across 130 kilometers of open sea to attack your navy without you knowing about it...A regular fly by wire missile, or laser guided...or hell, even plain old prediction missile would be cheaper, better and equally effective. There is of course, one thing that this missile excels at...and that is a near-dead man's switch. You are flying about, when, suddenly, missiles are bearing down on you (fired in a straight line, with no attempt to hide the launch point). Realising you are doomed you arm and fire your JSMs, eject and watch the enemy ship get destroyed a few minutes later.
  20. You really don't. A) If she is going to kill herself then she is going to kill herself. There is nothing you can do, short of flying to her house, strapping her down and feeding her non-poision for the rest of her natural life. All you are doing is feeding a need for attention (Which may be justified, everyone needs attention sometimes) and delaying the innevitable. B) If she isn't going to kill herself, then she isn't going to kill herself... Then all you are doing is feeding the part of her that wants to kill herself, since she is looking for arguments to kill herself, and buy arguing with you she is more suited to thinking of those arguments than if she was on her own. C) Sometimes you should just let things be. The path to hell is paved with good intentions. Even if you don't end up causing her to kill herself you are doing serious mental damage by trying to help her. I know, I have had this twice before in my life. You try helping, then you discover that helping isn't helping, you feel helpless, struggling to fix the problem, until you eventually conceed defeat in a massive argument with that person and you never speak to each other again. Then, two years later you are talking to someone and it turns out their life improved on its own accord...Or they killed themselves, you feel a little bad, eventually reconciling that there was nothing you could have done differently and coming to terms with the fact that you didn't kill them, they killed them. Lynx, I understand what you are going through (on a conceptal level, not the details of your specific problem), and you just need to keep making choices. I am not going to recommend killing yourself, but it is a choice that you should reasonably consider. If you are ready to die then you are ready, and no amount of help in the world will save you. If you think you are ready but when it comes to it you find you aren't ready, then you one of two things happen. First, you may feel terrible that you can't even kill yourself. Second, you may feel better about yourself because it turns out, even now, thinks aren't actually as bad as they could be. End of the day, the choice is yours, and you need to keep making it, or surrender. And generally speaking, if more than a month has passed of constantly talking to one person and your mood hasn't actually improved, then you need to stop talking to that person. All you are doing is feeding the desire to kill yourself, and they aren't actually helping you. If they are helping you then you don't want to kill yourself and the whole issue is irrelevant.
  21. How is there any difference? Does it look like this 3d model of this jet? No Does it look like this 3d model of this other jet? Yes Does it have a heat signature? Yes ect ect ect. Computers only work on yes/no assumptions, or probability estimates, which are basically yes/no assumptions within a margin for error. Does it look like this 3d model of this jet? -Compared 200,000 points, similarity on 180,000 points. -90% probability of this being that jet. -Probability cut off at 85%. -90>85 Yes The only thing that seperates this from Birdwatching is that this uses a vast database of models/images/other data, with a bunch of technology feeding data into it, while birdwatching uses a book or a chart, with a pair of binoculars. I am yet to so any difference beyond that. As for your coinslot analogy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vending_machine#Coin_fraud The essential difference here is that even a fake £2 coin is not worth the trouble of machining, where as a multimillion dollar jet is. With just a little effort and know-how (and money) you could fly right passed your AFF, land, steal the jet the AFF is in and fly off again. All while the AFF waved cheerily at you.
  22. Mather-Lynx: Mather, don't ever say anything to Lynx ever again. Lynx, don't say anything to Mather ever again. That should fix your friendship, since it seems whenever you say anything to each other you blow it apart. Just enjoy each other's company.
  23. Based on...what exactly? Someone looking at a bird? Thats passive. Bird watching is more or less exclusively dependant on shape. Thanks for proving you are totally uninterested in what other people say...it clears up a lot of the problems I have been having trying to work out why you are unable to learn. This is the level of tech you are dealing with: http://uk.ask.com/wiki/20Q Except the Q&A have been replaced with scanners. If you are putting the capacity to blow things up in the hands a computer that consistantly failed to identify Custard then I feel sorry for your men.
  24. I see you can't think for yourself...Slightly less impressive. The technology there is old as salt... For example: "Our new Technology allows Advanced Friend Foe Aquisition! Simply look up into the sky with your Optic Iris Pinhole Recongition System, and consult this External Database." There is no great benefit to this technology. Other than it can independantly target your own people, or that hostile lighthouse with a thermal register of a jet. Seriously...Its a small peice of tech, it doesn't do anything particularly substantive, or achieve anything of any significantly measurable note. Its the equivalent of the toy you get in fast food restraunts...It has no applicable purpose but to attract the naive.
  25. >grow up in middle class suburban america >complain about life :| http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndfieKOQFiw&feature=related Also, Earth, I believe he was addressing the person at the party, the person who was complaining.
