I would imagine a solider would demand whatever the normal wage was in your country, plus weapons. I would imagine the first bit effects their loyalty and second bit how well they fight. Though you are free to say other stuff and I will take anything reasonable into consideration. For example: "I am being invaded, so soliders rise up to defend their homes. They are loyal even though I am not paying them very much, and the money I am paying them is for weapons and food." Similarly "I control Arabia, Alaska, a large part of Russia, Texas and the East Indies, so I stop Oil sales to my enemies." can be used.

Well...Monty Python is a lot of throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. Compared to modern comedy, which is trotting out tried and tested formulars. For example, modern humour would never develop anything like the Cheese Shop, or think of having King Arthur's quest end when a police wagon arrived and arrested him. Compare that to something like Family Guy. Someone pulls out a baseball bat and whacks someone. Its funny on a very basic level, but it happens near enough in every show, if not every scene. It is/was quite a distinguishing feature between British and American Ideology: Compare, for instance, Rambo and James Bond. Rambo goes into the place under a thinly veiled excuse to blow stuff up (Read:plot) is revealed, and proceeds to blow stuff up, relentlessly. Bond goes into a place, there are a few action scenes, but not that many, there is a plot and at the end of it a romance scene. Now, years on, the two ideologies have crystalises, with supporters on both sides of of the Atlantic. This leads to things like the the Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy, where you have one film that has a mix of the two, then a film that is 95% plot exposition with little or no violence, followed by a film that is a thinly veiled exuse to blow stuff up.

Well Tavern, as you have probably heard on the news, I successfully pushed leaders from the most powerful countries to sign the World Peace treaty. With the full cooperation of each nation, the world military has been obliterated and all funds have been redirected to me - the New World leader. I've always dreamed of having full power over the world, yet I simply cannot handle all this responsibility. That is why I assimilated all Tip.it'ers into my new world council. To you I give full power over the nation of your choice, in order to exercise your values over millions of people. I will not judge your choice of politics, yet you are responsible for making the country of your choice a better place. First come first serve, so place your dibs now! Unfortunately some islanders have declared independance, and so I have declared a state of war between us and them, whoever takes them can have their lands. I personally will be stationed on the Isle of Wight, which I have appointed to be the science capital of the world. Here I will hire all top minds of the world to research important scientific fields - namely space colonization and human engineering. I have segregated my tiny islands from the rest of the UK, so it is still up for grabs for anyone who wants to rule it. So go ahead tip.it, let's hear your plans for ruling the world. If somebody doesn't seem fit to run the country you would have liked to rule, overthrowing them is always a possibility Play nice! EDIT: Here are the new world laws, to be enforced by the members of the Council (everybody!) -Play realistically within the 1 day = 1 year ratio -No nukes whatsoever -You can make or join an alliance, but your alliances rules only apply for the members in your alliance. -No extreme acts of war without retort. The country receiving the blow must retaliate. -Your troop number cannot exceed your population. Your population must also be sensible and take the size of the land you own into consideration (I will not accept new countries having populations of 1 billion.) -You may as of now expand your nations. However, taking over a country will take ATLEAST 3 days (if it is unpopulated) and potentially weeks if the other player retorts. -Take into account troop movement time. Even though airplanes and cars exist it still takes awhile to GET to a country, which a lot of people have ignored. -Crazy scientific advancements are to be shared with the entire world. Nobody has to right to discover energy-efficient cars and manufacture them exclusively. -If a player quits or becomes inactive, his country disappears. I know many will oppose this law, but I assure you it is the best way. So yeah. Hegemony goes back to no complicated super systems. Play the game, play reasonably, argue the toss. Only gonna play the War Mod. [hide][/hide]

Trying to 'pop' muscle back to a smaller length is like trying to squash a fly with all five fingers.

I have said it before, and will say it again...The Doctor lost his marbles when he tried to change history, ever since then doom has dogged his footsteps. I blame Tennet's Doctor for the current Matt Smith problem...If only he had respected the temporal accords...then Patrick Stewart's Doctor would have been created. Could have been so awesome.

Magnet on the block makes more sense....
-
Why would I use a piece of software that is worse than software I have from 1999, and is possibly the worst 3d design program I have ever had the misfortunte to encounter? Also...how are you going to get the block back under the latch? Either, the elastic on the block has no tension in, so when you release it nothing happens. Or, the elastic on the block has tension in, so won't go all the way down to the latch. Your entire concept is fundermentally flawed. You have a mechanism that has no actual function.
-
Mather, the block is hard against the back of the barrel... Either that or it is a poorly representive image. Also... The gun would be Muzzle Loaded, since the block shoots out on a peice of elastic...requiring you to use some sort of ramrod to reload. THEN you use the breech loading spot to put the bullet in. (That, or there is some sort of latch to prevent the block shooting out the end, which might deflect the bullet or break off...And would then require you to use a ramrod to reload the gun, since you would need to put tension into the elastic band.) (If it was spring loaded then you would still need the ramrod to reload the spring...or you would need to pull the block back, then push the spring in, along with the endcap.) Meaning the entire operation is far longer and more complex than it actually needs to be. Far better, easier and more efficent to just use a fully muzzle loaded gun with a ramrod in the first place. Even better, though harder, to use the winding mechanism I suggested.
-
Mather....If you are supposed to drop the bullet in through the hole...then doesn't it make sense that the hole shouldn't be blocked by the block? Though personally, it seems like a rather heavy mechanism. If you are going with a springloaded mechanism then would do better to have a small, light, block.

You are forgetting about the electromagnet. When that is released there is no connection between the arrow and the pinion, because there would be no connection between the green and black strings. Once fired you just have to release the bolt, draw it back to loading position, connect magnet and then draw the bolt to firing position.
-
Only change I would make would be attaching the Draw Bolt to the Rachet instead of the Pinion. Since the Pinion isn't supposed to move, and drawing it back would obviously move it =P. Would probably require a pretty strong set of materials to build.
-
Figure A Figure B Figure C Figure D So...From the top: We have a ball bearing based draw bolt. The reason that it is ball bearing based is that when you pull the draw bolt you need allow the Pinion to rotate freely. The bolt draws the pinion along the ratchet, which allows you to draw to a set drawlength (IE you find the max possible and make the ratchet that long) If properly utilised it also means you can pull it back one click at a time, rather than needing to always pull the full load in one go. There is a draw bolt on both sides, though only one NEEDS to be used. (It is preferable to use both, as it decreases strain and allows you to bring more force to bear) This leads onto a Chain Gear, which allows us to move the motion up or down, meaning the wheels don't need to be on the same plane as the rachets. The wheels are connected here, and should have a spiral groove cut into them, thus allowing the high tensile material to be wound about them. The high tensile material leads to the elasticated material, connected by an electromagnetic lock, which can be disengaged at will, which should be formed at a contagious object, with a loop and either end. Said loops pass around fixed points on the bowgun, providing the slingshot apparatus. The bolt turns the pinion, which turns the gears, which wind the wheels, which draw in the two High Tensile Material strings, which pulls on the two Electro Magnets, which pulls on the two second parts of the Electromagnet, which pull on the Elasticated Material, which pulls on the fixed points, which do not yield. Thus, as long as the user has sufficent strength to draw the bolt back, and then lock the ratchet in place, then you will be able to use a very high amount of force to propel your projectile. You could also use a pulley system to decrease the amount of effort it takes to draw the bolt back, though this would increase the length of the mechanism proportionately. You could also use a crank instead of a bolt, allowing you to magnify the amount of force you were bringing to bear. A further alternative is to use a small electric motor. Though if you are taking this approach it would be a better idea to use a single Worm Drive, central mounted. The motor turns the worm, which turns the cog, which works on the two Chain Gears, which turn the wheels. Ect. One of the other benefits of the Worm Drive is that it doesn't jump backwards (unless it breaks), since the Cog CAN'T turn the Worm. (So if you wind it half way, it won't unwind itself) The main issue with the whole mechanical approach, aside from the additional complexity during the build, is that you need to reset the bolt yourself, which means manually unwinding the two wheels. This isn't super complicated. You just release the bolt, unwind the wheels, reset the electromagnet, and then redraw. It is a little time consuming however. That said, everything here is a little time consuming...Its the trade off for having a Steampunk Gun. (Add Barnacles for a Pirate theme) Aside: A constantly spinning system would jam up so fast(Anything that wasn't thrown out would enter the mechanism and get caught. It would also be ineffective as a weapon. Also, it is technically a Bolt Action Bowgun, as the Bolt does open the Breach...as well as doing other stuff =)

Guy in the orange underwear is the strategy guide...for referance. Quite interesting this gun designing idea...At the moment I am looking at Cams, Rubber and Bolt Action firing systems. Should be easily more complicated than a clockwork microchip =P

He takes less breaks because he can smoke inside? It wouldn't be impossible. If GB attacked Castille at the same time as you were attacking it (As Morroco, of course), then you could take a couple of their provinces, then produce european units, and fight on semi-equal terms. Elsewise....ATTACK is your only option, as you get relatively weaker as the game goes on.

God I hate Victoria 1. I was playing it as my Moroccan super power, going alright, my economy slowly increasing...Check the highscores, Russia is increasing pretty fast, but I suppose that is fair, they are playing catchup. Check again, they are about equal. RIGHT, I am gonna fix this. Do some jiggling with the buy/sell system and build twenty dozen factories (in useful locations, with people), upgrade all the factories that need to be upgraded, upgrade my railroads so practically everywhere has level 2 or higher (we are talking 1850-60s, though tech went right out the window as everywhere was literate), upgrade dozens of my RGOs. Spent like 3 hours doing it all. Set it to carry on, go and make a sandwich, come back, smile quietly to myself that Russia's days are numbered and soon I will be unassailable. Spend the half an hour waiting for my factories to finish building upgrading other factories (Rolling building program). Finishes, I have a 100 point lead on Russia....WHAT THE HELL! Down from 150. I have the single most powerful economy on the planet! I have zero imports, I have a considerable social program, negative tariffs and pretty low tax(about 10% across the board). I export over 100 steel per day, alone! And yet, Russia, while fighting Prussia and Japan, is still able to build more factories than I can! I go on a second building spree, this time even larger, upgrading pretty much everything that could possibly be classed as industry. Finishes on a 200 point lead on Russia. ... I DON'T HAVE 2 HOURS TO PREPARE FOR EVERY HALF HOUR OF GAMEPLAY! JUST TO GET A 50 POINT LEAD! My damned people won't vote for a Laizze Faire Government, or even in Interventionalist, oh no, they went for State Capitalism before upgrading to Central Planning! Now they hold a 60% majority IRREGARDLESS OF WHAT I DO! Vickey 2, by comparison, was considerably better, as well as being more engaging.

Ok, destructive route: Oddly enough if you have a sword verses a granite wall you can't. And if you have a warhammer then you can. As far as I know, if it makes sense, a mod will let you do it. Creative Route: You miss the fundermental aspect of Roleplaying...Tipping columns onto monsters is what all GMs love. The problem is players like Retech's Friends who screw around with the mechanics until they can do 1,000 damage and bypass the cleverly engineered column collapse in the favour of stabbing it. You enjoyed Dungeoneering, DnD, when you have people who don't screw with the mechanics, works in much the same way. On character sheets most of the age/height/ect is ignored most of the time. It is only used very occassionally. A human can wield a Dwarf Axe...they just aren't very good at it. Its quite reasonable to be worse at wielding a Dwarf Axe than a Human Axe, unless you were actually trained (or you used it for a few weeks and the Mod said 'Alright then, you are now good at it') If you don't like playing then don't play (Personally, I prefer it when people don't do idiotic things, like breaking down a loadbearing wall just to avoid a simple puzzle) But don't make a bunch of incorrect assumptions and call them reasons for not playing...Its not befitting someone who supposedly believes in rationality. As for limiting characters...Talk to your GM. DnD is meant to be a social game, not 'Force the rules on everyone'. The problems arise when people stop talking and start pointing at the rules. (Unless everyone is pointing at the rules, in which case it becomes fun again).

Aye, 3D tends to be an excuse rather than a feature.
