Useful as ever. 'I haz opinionz Lolz' 'And what is that opinion?' 'Lolz, m3 n0t g0ing t0 tell u' Yup, I am willing to play... Mostly because I have talked to Wyvern (SHOCK, I didn't just read the guide I also talked to someone...what is the world coming to) and I REALLY REALLY REALLY like the idea of a Superhero Roleplaying Game (Which, as I understand it, is gonna be the focus of the adventure.) So let me just reiterate:
-
Victory picture from killing Sere's hoard? Doubtlessly he wants to find them to kill them. And nope, can you post a type set of the letters as they are supposed to look. Then I can compare and contrast.

Victoria is a good game...but with an Empire that spans Western Europe to South America there is simply too much to do. The great empire of Morocco was flagging relative to the Russia for Industry and Great Britain for Military(Epic role reversal), though prestige I was safely ahead by a factor of 3 (about 9,000 while others were on 3,000, at the most) Anyway, I am surrendering control to the Computer until 1936, then export of HOI2, and play a game I am far more experianced at playing =P

I wen't to a LARP weapon's safty thingy...Shot someone in the face with a bow, entirely by accident....Of trying to hit someone below the neck with 5 arrows. That, along with hitting people occassionally about the head, and my gut instinct to jab, lunge and otherwise impale made me think it was a bad idea to return.

I love that song!

I for one am fully behind the idea of Wyvern GMing, not presiding, over a game of DnD, with some nice pregens for a nice game. I guess from my non-powergaming background I would suggest 4th Edition, though apparently that is even more powergamy (I don't know  ) At any rate, congrats Mather. I think you are around 7 years behind me if this is your first dream of that nature...So let me be the first to welcome you to a seven year stint of not having dreams of that nature. I believe I am considerably better for it, as dream of that nature lead to shocking revelations about your personality.

Playing Victoria, as part of my Moroccan mega-game. Generally cool with most stuff, though I do insist on sensible game systems. I run a Danse Macabre game, called 'The Black Pauper'. I also run a play by post game called 'The Ashen Face'. I carry a big stick, Sense, and on the end of that I have a spiked ball, Reason. I often like to spin this around my head and let those foolish enough to stand in my way taste the bite of Intellect, my pet name for the combined stick and ball.

Nah, the point of the game is create a character, and then something happens (It kinda defeats the suprise element to say 'AND THEN ALIENS INVADE' in the opening post...Then you end up with 5 Xeno-Biologists with Anti-Alien guns...For referance, unless I am double bluffing, Aliens will NOT invade).
-
 You give me a name, and a job and I will do the rest.
-
Good question. You are anyone. The point of the game is to flesh out the game. You can be Joe Bloggs, butcher from Essex. Or you can be the MP for Sunderland South, or Prime Minister or a homeless person. You can be a CIA agent in Dublin, or an MI5 agent in Sommerset. You can be Dr Von Mathanstien, keynote speaker at the London Advanced Physics and Coil Gun Convention, from Norway. Or Breaky McBomber, suicide bomber from Iraq. I will allow anything that is realistic and falls within the 10 year tech rule (You also need a workable backstory). Aye, but as per usual, they screw it up. Sounds good to me. Only thing I would point out is that the game is set in 1991, four years before you were born =P Now, you don't have to do anything, but you can post a picture of your character, where they live, any friends they have, what sort of grades they have, any languages they have...Pretty much anything you can think of to make your character come alive =)

Its 1991, you are living in Britain, or visiting, its July 20th. Who are you and what are you doing here?* Name: Date of Birth: Nationality: Home Country: Where are you: Why you are where you are: Once you have I will PM/IM/Post you back and give you a situation, then you PM/IM/Post a responce back, and so on and so forth. Anyone can partake and the story will move with you!(For this reason meeting up is a tad complicated, unless you are both/all on at the same time) *Common Knowledge History: 1989: World Leaders and a lot of their constitutional successors in the Western World(With the exception of France), Russia and China were killed in 1989 in unexplained circumstances. Immediately afterwards the Cold War turned Hot when America and Russia simultanously attacked each other(The person power fell to was a committed Anti-Communist/American). While some of their instructions were carried out, the majority were not, leading to only a handful of nuclear weapons being used. Shortly there after they were both deposed and an uneasy peace was declared. America and Britian are paralysed momentarily, since there is no strong leader to take charge (IE doesn't have the support of congress/house of commons/etc) In Europe, France immediately takes charge of Germany, and with Germany the rest of Europe(minus Britian, Switzerland and a handful of other nations). Russia collapses into disarray and France uses its new found power to democratise Easten Europe. The French Unity Party is pushed in all of the countries democratised. 1990: However, Europe begins recovering and countries begin throwing off French control, leaving much disarray and chaos on the continent. Britain is united under a coalition that none of the public really wanted, headed by the Conservative Party, and 'Bussiness as Usual' is declared. America continues in chaos, with States functioning as a law unto themselves. 1991: America finally comes out as a weak Federal Government, headed by the Tea Party. The True History, only read if you are curious. [hide] 1989 March 15th- Invitations are sent to all current NATO countries leaders, to come to the 40th Anniversary of its founding. 1989 April 4th- NATO has its 40th anniversary. 1989 April 5th- America receives a tip off that China is about to attack, with Nuclear Weapons. NATO, having only just had a collective meeting instantly implement procedures, calling together all military staff for a briefing. All public relations are called off, families are secured at Phoenix centres. 1989 April 10th- A wave of illness sweeps the attendants of the anniversary, early test results point towards poisoning. 1989 April 11th- The entire staff and their families are suffering from the mystery illness. The public is not informed so as not to alarm the public. Further analysis shows that they were suffering from a highly advanced form of HIV, but reliant on bacteria rather than virus(so really HIB). This was initially taken as good news, it appeared treatable, however the bacterium was unnaturally aggressive, actually speeding up when the immune system attacked it. 1989 April 12th- The staff at the Phoenix centres and medical facilities begin to show symptoms. Over five thousand people were infected world wide by now. All were under quarantine, if one person was to slip though the net then the results could be catastrophic. Investigations point to the NATO anniversary as the cause of the out break. 1989 April 13th- Everyone, with the exception of Margret Thatcher(UK), from the anniversary is dead. Thatcher hangs on the edge. Panic ensues at the Phoenix centres, in Texas, where everyone has now been moved. The most senior, non-infected, military officer, an American Rear Admiral, orders the facilities to be destroyed before any trace can escape. Neutron Weapons should have been selected but were not. Two 20 Mega Tonnes bombs were delivered to each facility. The devices were exploded inside the facility, each time the delivery crews were trapped inside as well. 1989 April 20th- Conspiracy fanatics accurately guess what has happened, however since none of the leaders have been officially declared dead yet they have little impact on the world. 1989 April 22nd- A NATO plane is crashed in the Atlantic. Officially the NATO leader had been at a disarmament conference in Iceland, they were flying back to the UN when their plane suffered systems failure and crashed. It is officially declared an accident. 1989 April 28th- NATO is given unoffical control of all constituent countries, there is uproar in many cities and a miliary solution seems best. The idea was suggested by the same Rear Admiral, now head of NATO. 1989 April 30th- Gorbachev is assassinated. His reform polices are however unstoppable. The new Red Leader is secretive, quickly using the Red Army to put down uprisings across the USSR. 1989 May 3rd- The Red Army meets with resistance it cannot overthrow for the first time. The resistance fighters call themselves the Whites and call on NATO for aid. NATO responds, sending thousands of troops to Berlin, destroying the wall and liberating the city. The USSR responds by destroying an American satellite. The effect only provokes the young Rear Admiral who has gone mad with power, all out war is declared. The Federal Republics of Germany is the first to object to the measure. Street fighting prompts the Red Leader not to attack. 1989 May 4th- Most nations pull out of NATO. The Mir space station is shot down by American Nuclear Missiles. America has pulled out of NATO but the authorisation codes have yet to be changed. Chaos has overtaken the Red Army, but the loss of NATO support makes the Whites more weary, slowing their unstoppable liberation. 1989 May 5th- The UN holds a session to impeach the Rear Admiral. The UN agree almost unanimously. After a nine hour shoot out he is captured and convicted of crimes against humanity. 1989 October 19th- The Red Leader is captured, the USSR is put into the hands of the Whites and begins a rapid reform program, hoping to collapse itself by the end of 1990. Many western powers are sceptical about the whole thing. [/hide] Game will start in a few days, if people are interested. You are free to choose most any character you like. Oh, a word on mad scientists and what not. 10 years advanced of normal is the furthest I will allow.

Thats why you also carry a big stick and smack'em across the face if they get out of line. (Metaphysicaly) Carrot and Stick...best system devolped to date.
-
Herding cats is easy. Just need a lump of meat or fish and most will follow you. Same is true with players(replacing meat/fish with gold/magical items)
-
Well...the main issue there was that the story wasn't very well laid out. We were following this knight... Thats pretty much as much as I got from the story aspect. I mean, we didn't even have a map of the area, we were just wandering to the capital.
-
There are always other options =P That, and I hate games were everyone tries to kill you...Played a game like that recently...Was pretty angry by the end of it. And there was a loosely defined party structure. You are the Prince's servents.
-
What we really need to do is create two or three games with just three or four players each. I mean, I am running Danse Macabre and so far people haven't chosen the 'Kill everything' route...They are totally disregarding the social order and such...But as is life.
-
Certainly true.
-
I didn't get tired of it...I got massive migranes from spending 8-12 hours a day doing it. Then handed it over to Ross and things got complicated.
-
Pretty much what all of us do. One of the reasons Dungeoneering was so successful is that players came up with 99% of the bullcrap, the mod just responded.
-
... The classes all seem to merge together. Monk-Chanting and hitting stuff Bard/Fighter-Chanting and hitting stuff

Deus Ex is rather good. Only played the first two, haven't got the new one yet. To Retech: Indeed they are. However its like Ico's game...where there is a common quest, which was totally ignored in favour of killing everyone in two towns. Another problem is that a GM says: 'Ok, what setting do you want?' Which cues the players to create a character with no regard for setting. They were all characters that have been suggested to me, with the exception of the first, which was made by me =P In short: Discussion hurts the game. GM needs to just create a game, create a main quest, explain the quest, explain any detail about the world. The players then need to read(Oh the pain, oh the pain of it all) the information provided, and create characters that fit the setting. Don't we all? :shades:

Retech: [hide] Except, you know, where you and Wyvern descend into a rules debate...like you did with Nex's Crab idea. Or where we have: An anti-human zealot who flies around with a musket, who's goal is to establish a colony for her people in the middle of Human Land. An undead hoard controlled by a ghost, who's goal is world domination. A Lawful Good Monk with a Mace, who's goal is to build a kingdom. A Chaotic Good Monk with a bladed scarf, who's goal is to become a spherewalker. A Cleric, who's goal is to dispel the ghost. With absolutely no common ground between them, trying to function as a group. Aye, but you aren't suggesting a workable alternative. I have no problem with critics...I have a problem with people who stand on the sidelines and shout 'YOUR DOING IT WRONG' I believe MY point was that THEIR Reasonable Characters don't include YOUR characters. THEIR point has nothing to do with Pre-Gens, and was never implied as such. I am not agreeing with either side. I am saying that one side needs to give some ground. As an addendum...I would have no problem with your suggested idea of User-Mod collaboration...I just have very little faith in the Tavern's ability to create characters that are mildly relatable to each other, or of similar capabilities. Hence why it would better, in my opinion, for people to choose from a list. [/hide] This. If someone wants to run a game then you have my full support. If no one wants to run a game then I suggest we ask Wyvern, since he has said he is willing to run a game if we ask him to be our GM.
-
I believe I said...multiple times...that you could have optimised Pre-Gens. Pre-Gens are not about forcing people to play a certain way...They are about making sure that people who don't have any idea what they are doing are not massively disavantaged against people who have spent a few weeks memorising the rulebook. And I am not saying Pre-Gening makes roleplaying easier...Or 'effective' characters make roleplaying harder...That ultimately relies on the people themselves. And adventures are designed for groups, to be carried out by a GM. If that GM has a ridiculously over/underpowered adventure relative to the group then they are not a good GM for the group. Why are you talking then? You aren't offering anything. You aren't demanding anything. You are just spewing words pointlessly, with no actual objective other than to say you aren't going to play unless everyone surrenders to your view. Hence, on this subject, you are Hex. I mean, you have absolutely no reason to post...You aren't going to play the game suggested, yet you are going to moan about it, and moan when/if we play it... Tell me, what are you hoping to accomplish by posting in responce to any of this, beyond 'It doesn't work for me'...and really, thats a view you could keep to yourself. I am aware of this. I am also aware that Grim, Ross and Wyvern aren't going to get off of their high horses, either. Ergo, nothing will happen because no one is willing to give any ground. This whole discussion reminds me of Hegemony Tech Trees: Wouldn't it be better if we could make it up as we go along? If you can't be bothered to sift through eight pages of crap per day then you shouldn't be playing. If you know what you are doing then you should get a bonus in all research.
-
Then Retech...Run a game, help people and make the game happen. I am trying to deal with the fact that the GMs we have at the moment don't want to create adventures for your optimised hoard. At the moment you are acting like Hex, demanding a game that suits you(and others) but doesn't suit the GM in any way, shape and/or form. And, unsurprisingly, there are no GMs in the Tavern to run that game. And the GMs are acting like me, demanding a game that suits them(and others) but doesn't suit Hex in any way, shape and/or form. And, unsuprisingly, Hex doesn't want to play that game. So either: GMs like Wyvern, Ross and Grim need to get off their high horse about underpowered gameplay and just run a powergamers game. Or The players, like you, Nex and Hex need to get of your high horse about powergamers gameplay and just play an underpowered game. To me it really doesn't matter which just as long as one side does some give and take, rather than both sides just taking. And the easiest way for that to happen is that the GM or one of the players creates a bunch of Pre-Gens and says 'Pick one of these to play'.
-
Then you would use optimised pre-gens... I am just saying 'Why don't we all get on the same page', rather than try to force powergamers into underpowers games, and underpowerers into powergamers games. And I really don't care any more. Every idea thus far has been ripped apart because people want to play their own game. Ergo, leech farm.
