Three large explosions have taken place at an oil depot near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. Police say there have been casualties, and officers are at the scene. They are describing it as a major incident. The first blast happened at 0603 GMT, at the Buncefield oil depot, close to the junction 8 of the M1 motorway 10 miles from Luton Airport. The M1 has been closed both ways. Residents up to 30 miles from the scene reported hearing a "loud boom". Those living nearby have been evacuated. Many houses have been damaged, with some reporting feeling effects from the explosion as far away as Oxfordshire. Eye witnesses reported buckled front doors, cracked walls and shattered windows. Witnesses said another two explosions followed the first at 0626 GMT and 0627 GMT. The Buncefield depot is a major distribution terminal operated by Total and part-owned by Texaco, storing oil, petrol as well as kerosene which supplies Luton airport. "We are doing everything we can to support the emergency services and to bring the situation under control," said a Total spokesman. No further details were available, he added. 'Smell of gas' BBC correspondent Sinead Wilson, who lives in nearby St Albans said there was a huge plume of smoke covering the sky. "There is a smell of gas, lots of fire engines, police cars in the area," she said. "From where I am it is just black smoke, I can't see any flames. I did get very close to the scene of the accident and was moved on very swiftly by the police, but I did see flames from there. "It looked to me as if entire depot was under fire. We ran in the street, lots of neighbours did the same." Eye witness Sam Matton, who lives half-a-mile from the depot told BBC News: "The sky is sort of orange. The flames have got to be 60ft up in the air. "The loft hatch in my house has actually fallen out, my neighbour's window has actually broken from the impact. Dave Franklin told BBC News: "There was a massive loud bang which broke windows above us and to the right. The whole sky just turned orange and black." Duncan Milligan, of Hemel Hempstead, said he was awoken by the explosion as his house "shook". "There was a loud boom and the house shook violently. "I am about three miles from where the explosion took place but I can see flames high in the sky and smoke billowing everywhere. "There is clearly a building on fire near the motorway and police and emergency services are everywhere." Michael Vatty said: "There have been four subsequent very loud explosions, but the main one was just after six. "The impression was that it was a clap of thunder, but as soon as we got up we saw the flames. We had the garage door blown in, the front door was also blown in. I am about 5 miles from here and i heard all 3 explosions. The first one woke me up and it was loud as hell. I could see falmes on the horizon and now can see the huge pillar of smoke rising from it. I am contemplating whether or not it is a terroist attack. This is basically what i can see from my house When new news comes out i will keep this updated. Anyone else hear it or have any thoughts?

Well heres the story. Two weeks ago i ordered Burnout for the PSP so i could play it with a friend . So i ordered it all happily and it came to postage. I wanted it fast because im inpatient and so i paid an extra 1 pound 55p (sorry pound sign isn't working) for it to come within 1-2 working days. It is now two weeks later and the game has still not arrived. Amazon said that they have sent it and Royal Mail say they have not recieved it. I know that a lot of things go missing in the post so i was not too surprised. But then i found out from my family that my sisters DVD's and my rugby ball had not yet arrived. These were all bought from different places and all ordered about 2-3 weeks ago. But we are still reciving all the letters and bills and stuff. This is very strange and the only possible thing i can think that could be happening is our post is being searched. We phoned Royal Mail and they have not received any of the parcels and we phoned all the suppliers and they say that they have all been dispatched. We were told that we can claim insurance on the missing items after 15 days. Has any one had any experience with this? If so do you get the whole amount back and how does it work? Well if anyone has any ideas about what might be happening i would like to hear them because it is starting to get very frustrating and I am a little worried. Cheers.

my dad is home fine now. the bombs missed him by about 30 mins. When he got to work today he said he saw the carnage left after the bus bomb. he sed it looks like a small war zone. I think it was organised in line with the G8 also but i do not understand why they are protesting against something that is going to hopefully bring their country peace and money... It doesnt make sense to me.

I just got on my other computer and i have Norton anti virus 2005. I realised that it had completly disabled itself firewall, anti virus the lot and to turn this back on i need to be in the superviser account. The problem is that norton starts up not logged in any account and when you click drop down to choose one there arent any. This means i am stuck not being able to go on the internet because norton wont let me and for it to let me i need to be in supervisor which it wont let me... If you know what im saying. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it. Please i need to get this sorted out and there was nothing on the internet i could find about it. Thanks

I just bought Vice City for PC and installed it fine. But when i open up the programme it works ok apart from the sound. It comes out as a big fuzz instead of the actuall sound. This is on all the sounds. I even opened some of them up on my pc mp3 player and theyre were fuzzy there too. Is this a fault or is there something i can do about it. Plz help. Fraleish

yer i saw that. If he hadnt made it DiMarco could of won pretty easy. The thing i cant understand how did DiMarco make the same mistake twice on the 18th in regulation and playoff. He hit the front of the green twice and it rolled back down each time. Thats what lost him it in my oppinion.

The other day i bought driver 3 and today it arrived. So of course i went to install it and it says will only run on operating systems 2000/xp. Of course the website didn't tell me this so im a bit annoyed. :roll: :x My question is, is there like a patch or something that you can download to make this work? Im probably being real dumb here or something but im stuck on a clue. The clue is "You'll need to look for a town with a central fountain. Look for a locked chest in the towns chapel." So i did this and found it ok. I looked on the Tip.It treasure trail section and it said i needed to kill Black Heather for the key to unlock it. So off i went to the wilderness bandit camp with my clue in my invent and killed Black Heather. I got nothing. So i killed her again. Still nothing. Ive now killed her about 25 times and she hasnt dropped the key. Am i doing something wrong or dumb or is it a rare key or something. Anywayz plz help me. Fraleish
