Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Wonder, you are definitely right in the sense that inflation is running rampant in Runescape, but I believe the fix lies in creating new money sinks, to balance the GP entering the game. There are plenty of oppurtunities for Jagex to make a serious hit on inflation with their much anticipated skill, Carpentry. Now, sure, you've heard it all before when it comes to Carpentry, but realistically I'd say Jagex has to have this out sometime this year, as there are no other Skills they have mentioned working on. With Carpentry, players would be willing to dish out loads of their wealth to enhance their P.o.H., and one option, which I think would really be popular with the community, would be to rent out several public land plots. You see, although the regular P.o.H. would be unviewable by the public (and would be in the same area as everyone else's house, quite like farming patches), there could be 100-200 land plots that are rented out every week, which would allow players to publicly display their construction. At the beginning of every update, there would be a day long auction, where players bid in GP, to become a weekly owner of a land plot. Now, not only would this remove MASSIVE amounts of GP from the game (as a land plot would probably cost 20-50M for the first few months), but it would allow players to create shops, which other players could visit without much trouble. Assuming a 35M average price for 100 plots, paid every week, that would be 3500M exitting the economy WEEKLY. Another minor tweak that could be implemented would be a %'age chance to fail when casting high alchemy. For example, at level 55, 25% of the time you press High Alchemy on an item, the item will be destroyed, but you will receive no experience or gold from the cast. This percentage could go hand in hand with Mage level, and would not only decrease the amount of gold coming into the game, but also deter some players from using the spell at low levels (55-70), which make up a large portion of the players casting High Alch. By level 80, there would be only a small chance of failing (4-5%), and by 90 there would be no failure in casting High Alchemy. These two changes would greatly increase the balance between gold entering and exitting the game, without affecting gameplay too greatly.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Well... looks to me like people are becoming informed. I look at it this way. Jagex shouldn't bend over and give into people for the simple fact that they want more. There is a point where the line should be drawn. Fact is, and its been said countless times, there is way too much GP in the game to begin with. Obviously the cap is there for a reason. And its there for reasons that Jagex probably didn't even realize, but are for the good anyways. Point being... if there is a cap... items wont be able to be worth more then that cap for the simple fact that there is a cap. Rares shouldn't even be tradable in my opinion. So yous are lucky to even be able to trade them if you ask me. If you run into a price cap, then thats just tough luck. This cap is something that shouldn't be changed. And I don't see Jagex making a change just because a bunch of players want to buy and sell rares for insanely high prices. The items weren't brought in for that reason anyways (as others have already probably said). So why you think they would change the cap is beyond me. Go splurge a little and your problem is solved, until you hit the cap again. Rinse and repeat. Thats right... its that simple. EDIT: Incase I didn't make it clear... I don't see a silly system being implemented that allows more money into banks either. That would defeat the purpose of a price cap now wouldn't it? Y2G, this cap has nothing to do with gameplay, it is simply technical. I am not a programmer, so I can't say how easy or difficult it would be to raise the cap, but I can say with the utmost certainty that this cap has no effect on Rare prices. All this cap will do is rob a few players of billions of hard-earned GP, most likely players that had no idea of this hidden cap. So long as Blues are worth less than 2100M, there will be no problem buying and selling Party Hats, and prices will continue to rise (and trust me, Blues have quite a few years to go before coming anywhere near that price). This is not a solution for Rare prices by any means, and it affects not only Merchants, but all players who have enough to hit the cap.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
first slavery, then hitler, now people on internet forums. WHEN DOES IT END??!! no ones yet debated my argument, could one of you defending r2 give me your reasons why im not right? First of all, even if GP was removed (which would cause MASSIVE problems to gameplay), and all trades were technically conducted in "item for item" as you stated, how would that hurt merchants? If anything, merchants could make much more profit, as the item values would be MUCH LESS defined than they are with a common currency. Secondly, how do you know what Jagex wants people to do on Runescape? If you ask me, all Jagex really cares about is that people upgrade from F2P to P2P. If players are paying membership fees and abiding by Runescape's rules, then I don't think Jagex could care less if people want to get rich or raise their skills. I think you're using the word Jagex instead of YOU. You don't like the idea that other players can make more money than you've got in total within a couple of hours. However, the majority of merchants make less than 500K / Hour, and are not selling Party Hats, Crackers, or even Small Rares like Santas. They're selling coal, yews, herbs, and other raw materials at normal prices, facilitating the game for those players in need. The amount of merchants actually buying and selling Party Hats is usually around 10-15 at any given time, which is really an EXTREMELY SMALL, perhaps obsolete, percentage of the Runescape population. And the players who are merchanting these items didn't just find 100 Mil on the ground. They worked for it, just like anyone else, either by staking, merchanting, or *guess what* by using skills. In the end though, this is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to my first post. For some reason, people are posting here, acting as if Merchants are the only players with large amounts of wealth. However, the majority of Billionaires are NOT merchants; they are either early 85 Slayers, Stakers, or just investors who purchased their Rares in bulk back when the prices were much lower.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
The problem, like I have said before, lies in those uninformed about the cap. Any player who is unfortunate enough to go over the cap will lose ALL his GP, and as this post shows, barely anybody even knows this cap exists. Now, I agree, there's really no reason to be holding 2100M at the moment (but there are some cases where it does make sense). However, in the very near future, Party Hat Sets will be worth well over a Billion GP. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sets go over the cap by next year, assuming no major changes take place in the economy. If this rings true, then we are likely to see HUGE problems with players losing BILLIONS just because of some cap. I do like the proposition of introducing paper money, which would almost be like certs in Classic. One Paper dollar could be worth 1000 GP, and would therefore increase the cap to a whopping 2.1 Trillion (plus another 2.1 Billion in Gold Pieces). This would alleviate any problems, without creating any new ones.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
is it jealously? or hatred because they do not do what most people do? which is level skills and have fun. Slow down a second, why does the general public believe that Merchants don't have "fun"? I find Party Hat merchanting to be very fun, as I'm mostly just chatting with my in-game friends on World 2. I also love the feeling when I make a really good trade, especially when it takes a long period of negotiation before-hand.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
This is where i have to chime in and disagree. Doesnt affect me at all huh ? Do you seriously think merchants ONLY buy and sell rares? seriously ? What about all the lower class merchants?(I dont mean personality wise) They have to start somewhere to be able to get to the point where they can afford to start buying those useless rares. So they they start with raw materials , armor , etc , etc. A few weeks or so ago , I got a flail from a barrows run and went to sell it, after checking the rs forums for the average price they were selling for , (seemed 1.1m was the average from all the haggling). I decided to sell mine for 1m , a quick easy sale , the guy who kept offering me 900k for it actually had the nerve to say to me "If I buy it for a mil , I'll barely profit to resell" How DARE you say that merchants "doing their thing" dont affect me. Coal 200gp each ? in your dreams Cowhides 180gp each? HA! Merchants affect each and every player who trys to buy experience , even if they arent trying to profit from leveling  Excuse you my friend, but there is NOTHING wrong with wanting to make a 10% profit. To be honest, most lower class merchants are just trying to scrape together a few 100K's, and are nothing but a positive for people like you. Sure, they might not pay your asking price of 1 Million, but if you don't like what they're paying DO NOT SELL TO THEM! There's over 150 Thousand player logged on simaultaneously at peak hours, and you're getting mad because someone you labelled as a "merchant" is offering you 100K less than your asking price on a Barrows Item? Big deal if he wants to resell it, it's not like he's making much money off you if he does; he'll likely resell it for 1-1.05M, and that will obviously take him some time. People have to start accepting Lower Merchants as players offering a service, because that's what they're doing. I'm sure, from the tone of your argument, that you were in no mood to stick around Falador World 2 looking for a buyer. I'm sure that you were in no mood to continuously bump your thread up on the forums. Yet, when someone basically asks you 100K to sell your item, you flip out. How come when people ask recompensation for Nature Running people are so kind? Isn't it basically the exact the same idea... A player offering a service to another for a percentage of the profit? Hell, Nature Runners can get up to 100% of the other player's profits; Merchants are lucky to get 15%! It's time for you people to really start lightening up about players who are just trying to make some GP, in an honest and legit manner. It seems that everyone just associates Merchants with auto-typers and scammers simply because they all involve trading. Honest Merchants, however, are great for the game, and I make sure to sell any Non-Rare item I have to a Merchant, as they work just as hard as anyone else to make a bit of gold (and in most cases, harder).

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Why stop there? I think Jagex should find every Merchant on Runescape, then come to their houses in real life, shoot their families, post the pictures on the main website, and then decapitate the Merchants themselves in the middle of England. But seriously, if you want to post here, at least relate your post back to the thread's subject, and not the fact that I am a merchant. I understand that you're an ignorant person, and that's something I can do nothing about, but what you're posting right now is just irrelevant.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Like I've said, the problem is not that big right now, as only a small amount of players have anywhere near the cap, but the simple fact that once 2100M in cash is exceeded, that your gold turns negative makes this an ugly situation. I'm not saying I have any reason to be holding 2100M (at least at the moment), but during a Party Hat crash, or any Rare drop, wealthy players might see a reason to sell off their investments. 2100M is only about 3 Party Hat Sets; Cursed You has shown his bank pics of his 15 sets. For a player like him, this cap is a huge problem. There are quite a few others with serious money like Cursed; I've got more than five players on my Friends List with over 2 Billion in wealth. I, myself, currently have 2.5 Billion, and had only 700M in August. Now, I'd like to break players down, almost into generations of wealth. Let's call me Generation X, who had nearly 1 Bil 6 months ago. Generation X now has enough to surpass the cap (albeit not by much), but luckily, X had a small population. However, Generation Y (players who currently have approx. 1 Bil) is MUCH larger, and within 6 months they will hit the cap.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Have to agree. Party hats are the most coveted item in Runescape and one of the rarest. but what is rarer and also more coveted. 126 Combat Ask any 110-115 combat level (and over and below of course) with a party hat whether they would swap it for 126 Combat What do you think the answer would be? Whilst party hats are the visible symbols of wealth they only show you can afford one. 126 combat shows you are dedicated and committed in a way the merchants can only dream about. If you combine the two together you get a level 126 with full dragon and party hat. Who do you think garners the most respect? The level 100 with a party hat or the 126 with a party hat. Not going to be to many following the merchant I really don't see how this is at all relevant to my post. You don't like how I play Runescape? Grab a roll of toilet paper and wipe your eyes kid, I really couldn't care less. The fact is, this cap, once exceeded, turns your 2100M into nothing. Are you going to try and say that's not a huge problem? Sure, you might be completely jealous of those players who have enough money to exceed the cap, but they worked hard for their cash, and should not lose all of this work to a faulty system.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
I'm afraid that Lineage II and Runescape 2 share that massive flaw. I have been informed that GP also becomes negative after 2100M, which is just insane if you ask me. Sure, right now there might only be a very small amount of players that will have a problem with the cap, but the situation will only worsen over time. In a year from now when Phat Sets cost around the same as the cap (2100M), this could lead to massive problems.

Raise the GP Cap on P2P to 100 Bil
Since the beginning of Runescape 2, the game has evolved greatly. Sure, 2100M was more than anyone could even fathom at the beginning of RS2, but today there are hundreds of players who have more than 2100M (the current gold cap on Runescape). It's time to increase this amount to something like 50-100 Bil, as it causes many players difficulties when they are unable to surpass the 2100M mark. This really would not be very hard to implement, and if it were only effective on P2P, it would give an added incentive for extremely rich players to maintain their membership, as they would be unable to acquire anymore gold pieces on F2P.

Longest period of time playing RuneScape?
I try not to let game addiction take me over anymore. I played Diablo2 for 10+ hours some days (and consistently 5-6 hours a day) like 5-6 years ago. Video Game Addiction can really let you miss out on the best years of your life, and the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Error Message Disconnecting Me CONSTANTLY
Well, 2 days ago my cable began cutting out (both my TV and Internet). As of yesterday, however, the cable company claimed all the damage had been repaired (as it was a neighbourhood wide problem), however, since the incident, I have been receiving the same error message over and over. I'm running Windows XP btw. I have checked out all other computers on my network to a small extent, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. I have been using my network setup for awhile now as well, so it seems peculiar for this "IP Address" problem to suddenly appear immediately following my cable difficulties. The other computers logged on simaultenously with me are a Mac laptop, and an IBM Thinkpad, although neither of which are doing anything unusual. Any help on the subject would be appreciated. Once again, my connection does work, but it disconnects every 15-20 Minutes, displaying that error message, and can take up to 5 Minutes to reconnect, which is extremely annoying not only for Runescape, but for everyday life.

Behind the Scenes Feburary
Yea. Like make it so you can't say a thing by autotyping. They could always make a Police Station in Fally Park with NPC's that come out and beat you to a pulp (in this case, they'll 2 hit you to 0 HP) if they catch you auto-typing. Auto-Typing has got to be the easiest Macro to detect.
-
Behind the Scenes Feburary
They need to give Fally Park a graphical makeover; there's like 200+ players in Fally Park World 2 at any given time :P Also, Drag Weapons are now completely obsolete thanks to Jagex introducing the Whip. Hopefully the special is somewhat similar to the old Granite Maul, which was NEEDLESSLY nerfed due to the mass whines of players dying in the Wilderness. Basically, if the Special doesn't allow for a 3-4 Hit KO in the Wild, the D2H will be nothing more than a Rare Drop, with next to no utility in-game. I think it's time for Jagex to consider creating new top-of-the-line items that at least rival Barrows / Whips (IE 70 Stat Requirement Items).

Change the combat formula for range and mage?
I really think Agility should be mixed into Combat skills. It could either affect your attack speed, or give a % chance to dodge an attack. This would greatly increase the utility of the Agility Skill, and give an interesting change to the combat system.

This Past Year in Merchanting - 2006 Edition
Im sure everybody with th adequate software and know how did some duping. Theres probably a few more still out there. Coding marconer programms and such. Anyway, the prices will always raise. People who say 'oo everybody will see there worthless and nobody will ever buy and they'll be 1gp' know nothing. Theres plently of demmand at least or the whites and under. Even a blue can be sold in a day at the most. I also beleive that there are a lot of phats sitting inaccounts and we will se a sudden influx of these not active ones soon. Although I was not actually around for the dupe, I remember hearing that it only lasted about 1 day, and the software was only passed around among a really close group of friends. I mean, if the software was at all public, Party Hats would be much more widespread. As far as Phats on inactive accounts go, I'm sure there's a few, and it's likely that a certain percentage of these players will eventually return to the game at some point in time. However, 95% of these players have at max 2-3 Party Hats, and why would they suddenly sell them off once they realized how good an investment they've been? If I came back and saw a Party Hat I bought for 5 Mil a little over a year ago suddenly trading at values of 80M+, I would certainly want to hold it for another year. A lot of players theorize about old school players suddenly returning with 10+ Party Hat Sets, and the effects it would have on the economy. The fact is, these players don't exist. I've been Merchanting for well over a year, and I've never seen an unknown player unload any significant amount of Rares into the economy. Even if this was to occur, it would only temporarily lower the prices; in the long term it would just be another growing pain.

Farming A Useless Skill?
I'd love to buy every ranaar you grow for 2k each  they sell for more like 5-6k to be honest But I dont think anyone yeilds an average of 10-15 each harvest , nor any harvest at all yea, paw your info on some things get skewed a little i think. no offense but ranarrs are triple that price. id seriously say, id get 24-35 herbs per patch. if they all lived. ant 25 ranarrs makes well over 100k Well my avergge yield is taken from what my friends have told me of what they get, when I ask them bout it cause they constanly try to buy all my herb seeds As for rannar prices I said that as as minmum as I have never really traded in rannars and my only major exposure to them has been my merchanting friend trying to make a quick sale using his 'friend' prices where he offered at 2k each (shame I had no money then) Your friend should retire from Merchanting

This Past Year in Merchanting - 2006 Edition
Yeah, we really need a shop handing out 100's of Mils in cash to players for their Rares. That'd really help the economy /sarcasm

So angry, new scam/bug abuse
I'd have to say this does qualify as a scam. The player in the wilderness lies by telling you they are selling for a low price; they never intend to sell their items to you. Like any scam, it takes some foolishness on the victim's part for it to work out, and is easily avoidable. It's interesting how popular this new trick seems to be in Runescape; just a week ago I saw no one trying it, and now there seems to be 2-3 people attempting it per page on the official Forums.

Just When You Thought Uve Seen Everything On Ebay...
What a loser I charge like 15 cents less for my felt Party Hats

This Past Year in Merchanting - 2006 Edition
The Party Hat rise this year is likely being fueled by the overwhelming amount of autoers still present in the game. When players are mining 50 Mil worth of Rune Ess in a week, without even having to click, the price of 170M on Blue really doesn't seem that high. These days, it's not uncommon to see people offering to buy Party Hats by paying completely in Raw Materials, which although it does not provide direct proof of autoing, shows how serious the problem really is. If Jagex can continue to scout for these players, and implement some greater form of auto-detection into the game, I believe it would greatly slow the rises we are seeing in Party Hats. Obviously inflation is still a rampant problem in Runescape, but it seems Jagex has acknowledged this, finally, and seem to be working on ways to balance the gold entering and exitting the game, albeit at a slow pace. Should inflation, and the autoing problem be dealt with, I could not see Party Hats increasing much more than 25-50% a year, which really isn't that big a rise.

Blue Phats
That's totally ridiculous... Most of the macro accounts were level 3s. What idiot would transfer a Party Hat onto an account that runs the risk of getting banned daily? There are plenty of Party Hats left in the game despite people hoarding them, leaving the game without selling them, or what have you. It's such a shame that these hats have reached ridiculous prices but what can you do... That's what JAGeX gets for not interfering in the economy. You're suggesting they should? There's no need to. And they have, actually, if you haven't noticed. They're trying to devalue gold all the time, and reduce high alching with alterior methods. Also they're putting in more and more money drains. So they're aware and working on it. They can't really do anything though to change the path party hats are in though. If blue party hats keep on their trend of growth, they'll be at least 1billion gp by this time next year. And there are plenty of people that do that. You're not guaranteed exponential growth in too many investments out there. :P I think Jagex needs to really think outside the box when it comes to slowing inflation. Sure, they're implementing some new money sinks, but nothing that will even come close to a balance with the influx of gold entering the game through High Alchemy. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Carpentry is their chance to really shape the economy in the way they see best fits the game. By creating a select amount of rental land plots, Jagex can easily drain a huge amount of GP without even introducing any material recompensation. If Jagex created 100 public displayed land plots, and charged a rental fee of 10M / week, then that would remove 1 Billion GP per week from the economy, which is the equivalent of over 1.3 Million alched Yew Longbows. Even if the option of creating Public Land Plots is not used by Jagex, they could still charge GP to upgrade the size of your Plot. Since an RPG is made up basically of tiles, they could allow players to build in a 24x24x2 tile area for free, and many players would be happy with that. However, players would also have the option of upgrading their land plot, to say, 48x48x2, 96x96x3, or even more, and charge a one-time fee for the upgrade. Upon the release of Carpentry, the 96x96x3 plot may be the largest, costing an upgrade price of ~20M. However, a few months down the road, Jagex could add yet another plot size, to allow for even larger constructions. Either way, Jagex needs to consider their options for this highly anticipated update. Although it's somewhat cliche to talk about POH's and Carpentry, cliches are cliches for a reason. The skill has amazing potential, and Jagex really has to oppurtunity to shape the game into the version they see will provide the most benefits down the road. A few years from now, if Runescape's success keeps up, it could be common to have 500K users logged in simaultaneously. With the current conditions, the more users, the more High Alchs, the greater the imbalance between gold entering and disappearing.

This Past Year in Merchanting - 2006 Edition
I've heard a few stories from different people, but nothing confirmed. One player, X Anthrax X, was supposedly involved in the dupe, and was for sure not perm banned. However, the last time I saw him, he was running around Fally giving free stuff away (he gave me a Mask Set). This was over a year ago though, I haven't seen him online since then. ok here's a post you may find familiar So you're saying that 20M in roughly 2 weeks is a normal thing and the ban didnt have anything to do with it? I suppose my lingo is somewhat misleading. When I call something a "Crash", it means that prices not only drop, but stay down for a long period of time afterwards. The drop I was talking about in the post you quoted could not be considered as a crash, as Party Hats ended up re-rising within the next few days.
