1. A few alternatives to the Antec PSU would be the Enermax Noisetaker 370W for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã41.99, or the Enermax FMA Series 460W for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã48.98. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products ... _uid=98386 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products ... _uid=98387 I have not used any Antec power supplies I have heard they have (or atleast had) relatively low efficiency which means they tend to run quite hot compared with what Enermax offerings (although they are good compared with generic and many other brands). (I am personally going to purchase a Enermax 485w Noisetaker PSU soon to replace my 300W Hyena, although Enermax is the only reasonably priced quality brand where I live)
2. K sorry, I did not look closely enough.... (I Just looked at the product name and description). The only other change you could make would be a trade off, and I am not certain which one would give the better preformance. You could swap the memory you selected with Corsair 2x512mb CL3 . The benefit is the ability to run dual channel, the downside is a slightly higher latency. Both are priced the same.
3. might help, although RS does not require much, Your connection seems alright. If it is a poor connection, Particularly on dial up, it can cause simalar problems... although yours sound more uniform then really to be expected. The thing which makes me wonder if the connection is to blame is the fact that it seem to happen on 2 different machines....
4. From the sounds of the problem it seems more like a connection issue then hardware. What is your internet connection? With regards to the graphics card. You would not be able to remove it, because it is not a card but is intergrated into the motherboard. Purchasing a graphics card would not improve runescape (atleast I doubt it would), although it would improve most other new games. Edit: Suggested cards 6600GT, 6800GS, 7800GT. Although any current stand alone graphic card would give better preformance.
5. Looking down... - The powersupply is generic, so could be dodgey and would probably be inefficient. Although should be accurate, and with a bit of luck should be problem free. (I have used heaps of generic ones without any problems, although my brother and mum had several die). A PSU from the likes of Fortron, Enermax, Antec, Silverstone, OCZ would be the safe option. - The Gigabyte GA-K8N is widely considered a average board, probably worth looking at Epox 9PNA, Chaintech VNF4 or the DFI INFINITY if they are in the same price range. A breif justifcation for my reccomendation of boards: Epox 9PNA: Good preforming, feature risk board. Chaintech: Good preformance, good features, cheap. DFI Infinity: Good preformance, amazing set of features. No.1 choice of overclockers on a budget. -With regards to memory, probably would be worthwhile to get 1gb. Pratically if you want to multitask, also BF2 is likely to benefit significantly from it. - Do you really need the Sony CRX320E... I suspect the NEC ND3550 would do all that the Sony can. (I also would not buy Sony, lately many of their products have been of low quality and not worthy of the Sony brand reputation) - The GEFORCE 7800GT is a nice card. - Probably would not need another fan. Although it costs next to nothing.
6. You can get a very good pc for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã850. You do not even have to spend that much if you do not require a monitor. The below system is what I consider would be best value for money, CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã112.00 * Best model of CPU for gaming and most tasks. A faster CPU would preform better but I do not consider enough to justiy the price. If dual core if required look at AMD Opteron 165. Motherboard: Epox EP-9NPA+ Ultra nForce4 ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã82.19 Video Card: 6800GS ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã143.29 * Good preformance at a decent price, probably the best place to spend more money. A reccomended faster card would be the 7800 GS (Dunno if they have been released(, a cheap alternative would be the 6600GT. Ram: Corsair Value 1GB 3200+ (2x512mb) ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã58.69 *1GB is all that is really required, can be upgraded at later date if needed. HardDrive: Maxtor 160GB ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã56.11 *Depends on how much storage you require. Brand does not really matter. PSU: Enermax Noisetaker 485W ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã70.44 * A robust, silent and efficient PSU. Case: Something that looks good: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã70 Total: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã593 (inc vat) Extras like Monitor, Mouse, kieyboard, speakers add to the price. Mouse Logitech MX310 Optical Mouse ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã24.62 * The high end mouses are nice, but not needed. This is a nice mid point, although a cheapie should be fine. keyboard Logitech Value Keyboard ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5.82 *High end are nice, but not needed. Speakers: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã20 I like logitech, but most speakers give decent sound quality. General It might even be possible to get a Case, Keyboard, Mouse, and keyboard pack... they are all cheapies but get the job done. These bundles are often excellent value. Monitor: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã???? * Currently CRT are cheap, and a 19" should be looked at, or a 17" LCD display. Again I do not consider buying high end is worth the extra expense. Total: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã50 + Monitor Grand Total: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã643 + monitor.
7. There has been many great games. So I listed my favourites (Was going to be my favourite 5 was to many) 11) Strife Great Game, Excellent Storyline, Excellent gameplay, but graphics was dated and difficult to find. 9) Goldeneye Fun in both single and multi-play, a great game on the N64. 8) Command and Conquer (Series) Average missions, fun multiplayer. 8) Dune Great Statergy games. 7) WarCraft (Series) Each one improved on the previous. 6) Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time Great game for the N64 5) Doom Great FPS, wasted hours playing it. 4) Simcity (Series) Simple idea, fun game, although game has tired with newer versions. 3) Europa Universalis II Amazing game, Would of been best but graphics could of been better, but that does not matter, also hard to understand and play. 2) Wolfenstein 3D Fun game. 1) Civilization II Very fun game, spent to long playing it. Other noteworthy games include Commander Ken, Crystal caves and Stars. edit: Also can not forget the early might and magics.
8. Although the ASUS A8N-E is not a bad card, the following in most cases are better value. Epox 9PNA Ultra (All around good card) DFI NF4 Infinity (Good for Overclocking) Chaintech VNF4 (Good card, normally for cheap) Also getting a brand for the PSU would be nice. There are quite a few dodgey power supply brands floating around, although looking at its price it should be decent. A few places where costs savings can be made would be getting a slightly slower CPU, and only 1GB of memory. The preformance decrease would be minimal. The current video card is widley regarded as good value for money, so I would not make any changes there. (Unless you want to gamble and try to unlock the extra pipes on a Connect3D X800GTO, even with locked pipes it is a good card)
9. Would it not make more sense to list the shops by country instead of by who suggested them.... (You can include the name of the person who suggest it next to the site) Just update to the stores I posted ages ago. Pricespy This is a site which lists prices for a wide range of computer hardware from almost every shop in New Zealand. A great place to check prices, or just to see what is avaiable. (Although does not contain a comprehensive list of all items avaiable) http://www.pricespy.co.nz Ascent: Excellent Service, Excellent Product range, and excellent website. Although rarely the cheapest option. http://www.ascent.co.nz C1Shopping mall: This is one of the cheapest sites for hardware in New Zealand, it has a excellent range and excellent prices with decent service. http://www.c1com.co.nz DragonPC: Has a good range of products, good service, average-poor website layout, prices are generally average-expensive. http://www.dragonpc.co.nz Hot tek: Generally a good all round store, listed product range not as comprehensive as others, although good prices and service. Although I do not fancy thier site design much. http://www.hottek.co.nz/ Paradigm PCs: Decent range of products, and I particaly like their menu layout. Good service, Average prices. http://www.pp.co.nz Tastech: Nice website, good prices, good customer service. http://www.tastech.co.nz
10. I can not remember ever believing in him, although I did play along for a while, but I also claimed he was not real and my parents always claimed he was real and to prove them wrong I always planed to stay up all night to prove my point (Never did stay up, to lazy)...... Dunno if they still put 'from Santa' on my presses, I think mum does for the cheap one. So many things did not add up, plus half the xmas morning tv-shows seem to give it away.
11. Tomhardware guide just recently did a series of benchmarks to try and determine what is the optimum amount of ram to use. http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/13/ ... ally_need/ They concluded, and from my readings I have to agree with them that 1GB of ram is enough for most users, while 512mb is enough if you do not plan to multi task or use memory intensive games. In a few cases 2GB is justified. In my option ram has been dirt cheap recently and there are other hardware purchases which are of much more importance (eg graphics card)
12. Here is a very good article written by a retired detective (in 2004) on the rise of lebanese crime in sydney. http://www.quadrant.org.au/php/article_ ... cle_id=581 Gives a good introduction on what caused the latest riots.
13. It would be great for 99% of uses. Although AMD 64 2GHZ not intel 2GHZ...
14. Well, most computers use Intergrated graphics so any low end graphics cards would be better then average. Although you would be better of purchasing a GeForce 6600 GT or a GeForce 6800 GS. With one of these cards I suspect your computer would run faster then the average video card powered machine. (Although the true average is almost impossible to know) With regards to the CPU, GHz is only one of many measures which determine preformance. I suspect that any AMD Athlon 64 CPU would be better then average. With regards to ram, most computers (atleast recent ones) would run on 256mb although 512mb is becoming more common. Just to be on the safe side 1GB of ram would be preferred. There are two main aspects when it comes to Hard-drives, one is the storage space, the other is how fast it operates. With regards to storage space 160GB or less seem to be qutie common (Although you would know how much storage you should required). So getting a 160GB-200GB drive would meet your requirements. for preformance 7200rpm with Serial ATA would be fine. Most brands are fairly reliable. PSU: The power supply is a tricky one, many people swear by the use of high end named brands, anything else according to them you run the risk of frying your new computer. Although others, myself included have just used cheap generic PSU with little problem. (Although for my next upgrade I am getting a decent PSU) Just for a breif summary. CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket 939) Motherboard: any nForce4 Ultra board. Hard Drive: 160GB 7200 rpm serial ATA Video Card: GeForce 6800 GS Memory: 1GB PC3200 (Could be 512x2 in dual channel) PSU: Enermax 485w noisetaker or simalar. Case: Something you like the look of. At a guess you should be able to purchase the above for less then $600 USD.
15. Only problem it is in USD, and in the wrong country....
16. Yeah they have stopped making them unlockable... but hopefully because I live in a third world New Zealand, where we get everything last we should still have the old stock still. Plus the X800GTO is still a good value for money card. The alternatives I would of gotten are the 6600gt for about $100 less, or a 6800 GS for about $100 more, which are all good value for money card. So I decided to take the gamble and might get a great card :D
17. Been doing research and almost have final parts... I decided to purchase a x800GTO and hopefully unlock it to 16 pipelines... although to get my best chances to get a unlocked x800GTO I would have to be quick.... (So I can,t delay which I always do). Here are the parts, with a few possible alternatives. All prices in NZD. Max price: $1200 ummm, already have Harddrive, monitor, ect.... DFI NF4 SLI INFINITY $227.35 (Alternative: ASUS A8N-E $186) Athlon 64 3200+ $266.45 Twinmos 1024 MB dual channel $140 (Alternative Kingston valueram $148) (Alternative Corsair dual channel $176) Connect3D X800GTO 256MB PCI Express $314.99 Case: Cooler Master ?????? $110 PSU: Enermax 485w Noisetaker Speed Adjustable, ATX 2.0, PCI Epress OK $123 Total Price: $1180 Previous post: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=358113

Firstly I assume that you mean $1500 USD... More detail on the kind of multimedia you plan to do would be nice.. Your specefic requirements might benefit from the use of Dual core CPU*, and the best dual cores are made by AMD. Something like this should work. It is quite easy to build your own... Here is a very breif idea. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $500 Epox 9PNA Ultra motherboard $105 250GB Hard Drive - OEM $100 XFX Geforce 7800GT $309 CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) $73 Case : $70 PSU: ENERMAX Noisetaker 485W $76 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 - OEM $115 CD / DVD Drives/writer: $50 Total: $1400 ($100 spare for postage ect) (I might have forgotten several things, and ummm all parts might not be compatiable, but I do not see any obvious problems....) for your old PC, chuck in a TV tuner card, and maybe a DVB decorder card and turn it into a media box to play/record TV. * If you do not plan to do multi-tasking much, a single core CPU might be better. Only a few selected software benefit from dual core.
20. I barely know myself lately.... my fragile mind can not tolerate getting up at 6:30am each morning then working a 8+ hour day under the hot sun.... (Plus I like being generic)
21. I assume from your location that you are from the USA, so I would suggest using the site http://www.newegg.com , from what I been told they offer good service, and the appear to have a large range and at reasonable prices. With regards to suggested parts just ask here with your requirments, what you plan to do, ect... Many of the users here can quickly come up with a 'model' set-up for any price ranges. Althoughing comparing brands of the same product is a massive time waster.
22. You wont be doing that because to run a system in SLI setup, you need two identical video cards that can run in SLI and thats not an exactly cheap option. Besides, i reckon that an SLi set up is a waste of money, over rated and is only good for bragging rights. You can get a good single card and decent mother board and still get top notch performance for cheaper than an SLi setup. /personal opinion That is true, but I am not planning to run it in a SLI setup. In my previous post I wrote that I plan to use it to run in a mutiple display set up. The two cards would not be in SLI. Edit: Changed wording a bit. Edit #2 Been looking around and now have these 4 options. Tri-monitors would be nice to have, but not at the expense of any other useful feature/function or preformance. Option A MSI RS482M4-IL Chipset Radeon XPRESS 200 http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecific ... mID=344054 $170 Misc On-board audio 7.1 2 extra ATA-133 Integrated Graphics Option B Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9 Chipset GeForce 6100 http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecific ... mID=343335 $156 Misc On-board audio 5.1 Integrated Graphics Option C Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI Chipset nForce4 SLI http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecific ... mID=342273 $205.94 Misc On-board audio 7.1 2xPCIe-16 Expense of 2nd video card. Option D The previous 2 boards discussed above. nForce4 Misc Only 2 displays, without additional hardware.
23. I do not plan on using SLI, I feel it is poor preformance vs investment. The best use for SLI boards is to run a 2nd cheap GPU which allows 2 extra displays :D But then I would need a bigger table. I was meaning 512mb in dual channel, I really should of put 2x 512mb up there. I agree, at a glance they appear the same, (with the exception of the warranty, but then its difficult to tell how long they mean as liftime.) I think I would dig around their websites, and look at a few benchmark sites to see how better the more costly ram preforms. I was more interested in the specefics between AMD and Intel. It seems the whole debate around AMD/Intel have not really changed. Due to the fact AMD is almost always consistently cheaper for what they offer I plan to go with them. But I would admit Hannibal got my interests up and I would probably do a little research in that direction.
24. What I was thinking is quite simalar to what was suggested. The Hyena PSU is widely regarded as usless,ch they are a brand which comes with many of the cheap cases. A few slight differences. In brief. AMD Athlon 64 3200+ $$284. (Dragon) Galaxy 6600GT 128Mb DDR3, 1x TV Out, 2x DVI $250 (Tastech)* Enermax 420w $123 (Dragon) (might get new case + psu) 512mb Dual channel $175** Now the part I always found the most fun, deciding on a motherboard. I have manage to reduce it to the following ones. (Only looked at dragon pc, might look at a few other sites later) Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?42843 GIGABYTE GA-K8NF-9 http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?8957 ASUS A8N-E http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?14440 ($185) Total: $1017 The two gigabytes seem to be very simalar, although the Ga-k8n-SLI have support for SLI but seems to be at the expense of a 3x PCI slot. While the Asus has a PCI x4 which are not on the gigabytes. It also seems that the k8nf-9 has support for IEEE 1394b which the other two lacks..... Although I have never used that interface before. Not sure of what alternatives. The asus/gigabyte also has slightly different software. in summary I do not think there is much difference between the boards. The only reason to choose the Ga-k8n-SLI if I want to use SLI or Quad monitors. * I did not include tastech in my original list. ** How important is memory brands really, I can get the likes of Kingmax, Kingston valueram, a-data, twinmos for <$180. While for around $250+ ram like Corsair, Kingston, Mushkin can be brought. (Based around 512mb x2 dual channel). Have heard lots of mixed messages, same people swear by expensive stuff while others claim it is a rip-off, kindof like arguments around PSU. Comprehensive memory list http://www.ascent.co.nz/HardwareCategor ... ame=Memory Currently thinking about getting one of the two. Kingmax Dual channel $179 (Ascent)** http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecific ... mID=339565 Kingston dual channel valueram $171 (C1) http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecific ... mID=113751 This message has already gotten longer then I was planning. One last comment, what advantages would going with Intel give over AMD. (I have only used AMD sense the 166 days) Edit: fixed a couple of prices, I quoted them without GST.... I hate sites which exclude it.
25. I plan to upgrade/replace my computer in the near future, mostly because the motherboard has slowly been failing, although I already have a fairly good idea on what I want, I am interested to hear other suggestions. Amount to spend: $1200 NZD inc GST (Although less is better) Probably would limit it to the following three stores. They all have good product ranges for New Zealand standards. (Maybe only top 2) http://www.ascent.co.nz http://www.c1com.co.nz http://www.dragonpc.co.nz Alternatively there is always http://www.pricespy.co.nz I plan to use the computer for light gaming, upload and edit my photos (Mostly jpeg although potentially raw files from a dSLR), I rarely use the computer to watch movies/videos or play music. Mostly would do Internet surfing, word processing, maybe a little spreadsheet work. Stability is of great importance, although so is performance (Hate waiting). I do not intend to over-clock it (Unless I get bored enough), might get a TV-tuner card or appropriates hardware to use computer to watch TV and/or connect to satellite dish and to connect to the local Free to air satellites (Although this would be a later purchase so the card does not have to be included). Would like to use dual monitors. Current set-up I own Two 17̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
