  1. The thing with the economy before construction is that it was stable - you could rely on the prices of normal items being the same from day to day.

Now though, prices are all crazy, with some people selling really low etc. which while its good for buyers is bad for sellers. Some people are still trying to sell at old prices, and so there are no 'standard' prices at the mo.

oh well, time to doi some alching while its cheap!

  2. I had an interesting situation today.

Three days ago I filled the coffers up with 1050k at 21:00

Next day I collect my goods at 21:00, and add back the 75k that was taken.

Yesterday I leave it until Today.

Today I collect my goods at 07:00

Coming back later today at 18:00 to top up with the profits I find that another 75k has been taken, and I have another 1250 flax :)

My question is why did I have another load ready so soon after my last collection, and before the time I first deposited the money?

  3. Ooops!

i've just reread PaulHartMans first post for more Flame Fodder, and realised that he does use the term Utility in its economic sense.

Aah well, sometimes your right sometimes your wrong! many apologies all. Though I must say that Duke Freedom's definitions were at odds with each other, but i've made the bigger mistakes here. Oh well, no hard feelings eh?

  4. Yes, the normal usages of Utilty and Utilitarian are very similar. You, however, reffered to the economic term. Could youy please explain how the definitions you have quoted are linked to your own use of the word utility?

    From your Wikipedia link:

utility is a measure of the happiness or satisfaction gained consuming goods and services

Your own usage, and link to the term, give a meaning completely at odds with the commonly used meaning and sense of the word, and thus its link with utilitarianism.

Accusing PaulHartman of misusing an economic term begins to seem a bit foolish when he was not actually intending to use an economic term. He was actually reffering to yew logs and suchlike actually being useful. Nothing to do with the pleasure gained from them.

You still have not pointed out where PaulHartman has gone wrong.

  5. I agree with that - everything is fine at the moment (partly because we dont need to eat etc.) If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The main point of this topic never was about whether rares should go though. I gather from other posts that the original author is anti-rares, but that never seemed to come into his point at all. While they might do no good, they dont seem to do any harm.

  6. Duke Freedom, I'm afraid you are looking like (how do I put this nicely?) a bit of a wally.

You have described PaulHartman as an idiot without in any way saying where he is wrong, and what the correct alternative is.

Paulhartman said 'Utilitarian'. If you are going to claim that that is the same as the economic term 'Utility', then you have an exceedingly poor grasp of the English language.

where is PaulHartman wrong? So far you just seem like an empty gasbag, ready to insult and criticise, but with no alternative theory. You have not made any arguments to refute.

  7. Of course! *Slaps head in comical manner*

Your right, obviously. I had previously subscribed to the 'stops them spending it on Nats' theory, but now I see its flaws. (I say flaws, when really it is just plain wrong)

I hope you will agree though that what will effect the economy is those people saving their money to buy a rare. And from the inflation in rare values, I'm assuming that there are more people wanting them than there are available for sale. So the money will sit in the banks unspent while they save it up, and that amount of money gets larger and larger.

And since rare values are rising quicker than the values of raw materials, people are having to save longer, keeping more money out of circulation longer.

I feel there is a deep and meaningful point behind my ramblings, but its just out of reach. PaulHartMan - you seem to know about economics. Please tell me what my ramblings mean for the economy (if my assumptions are even correct)

  8. A skinflint is someone who doesn't like spending money (aka tightwad, Scrooge etc.)

that's where my aproach of collecting materials in advance comes from - I didn't want to waste my time on members. It also means you can do the interesting stuff right away, instead of spending your first days collecting iron.

  9. I am writing this guide for the average new member. If you are a F2Per with 99s in everything F2P, then this guide probably isnâââ‰â¢t for you! :) Also, it might be wise to bear in mind that I am a skinflint, and this is based upon my experiences. When I became a member I had Full rune, and 50k to spare. Some of you might have more, some less. This is not a definitive To Do list, but more a guide around the members world, and any advice I could think of. Iâââ‰â¢m sure Iâââ‰â¢ve missed something out, but nobodyâââ‰â¢s perfect!.

First things first, lets look at what you should have before you make the big leap into members.

Complete all of the F2P quests

It wont do you much good if you want to do a members quest, but you cant because you havenâââ‰â¢t finished the F2P quests. You are paying for your time as a member âââ‰â¬Å donâââ‰â¢t waste it doing quests you can do for free.

    Decent F2P stats

Quite a lot of the quests in members have highish skill requirements. If you are like me you will have raised your F2P skills until you got bored with F2P. For me that was level 40ish, but some were higher, and some lower. Donâââ‰â¢t worry too much about this though, as it is much easier to train in P2P. Also, if there is something in P2P that you will be able to do in a couple of levels, it might be an idea to raise them.

    Raw Materials

Because I was a skinflint, I wanted to make the most of my first few days as a member. So I looked at the members abilities, and gathered the materials I would need to get my first few levels.

Fletching âââ‰â¬Å Normal logs, feathers, bronze/iron bars

If you collect 165 logs, and about 2500 feathers, you will be able to make iron arrows as soon as you have cut the shafts and put feathers on. See the skill guide for more information.

Construction âââ‰â¬Å oak logs, iron bars, wet clay

Iron bars can be hammered into nails as soon as you get members. Wet clay is the cheapest material to train with

Smithing âââ‰â¬Å Iron ore, ruby ring

If you are able to enchant ruby items, rings of forging are a great way to smelt iron, without losing any!

    Other Skills

take a look through the Tip.It guides, and see what things members can do. If you find anything that is within your level, work out how you can prepare for it.

Right, youâââ‰â¢ve done the quests, raised your stats, and gathered the raw materials. Its time to become a memberâââ¬Ã¦

âââ¬Ã¦So, youâââ‰â¢re a member now. Remember to load up the correct type of world! I was rather annoyed to find that Iâââ‰â¢d logged into a F2P world, and couldnâââ‰â¢t get through the Taverly gates . Iâââ‰â¢d better give you a warning here. On F2P you were probably one of the higher levelled players. Most other people were green. It was a good feeling, a feeling of superiority. Not any more. In P2P, people are much higher levels. You may feel intimidated by all of the red names. Donâââ‰â¢t worry, youâââ‰â¢ll level up soon enough.

Now, the memberâââ‰â¢s world is big. Very big. To start with, I recommend that you walk everywhere. That way youâââ‰â¢ll get a feel for where stuff is. Keep the map up in a separate window. Personally, I think that the Tip.It one is best. My tour will start at the Taverly Gates. These are found by travelling north from Falador.

Taverly âââ‰â¬Å home of the Druids. Just to the north is a stone circle, where you can start the Druidic Ritual quest. This will start off your Herbloreskill. To the south of Taverly is Taverly Memberâââ‰â¢s dungeon. Filled with all kinds of monsters, this sprawling dungeon is perfect for training, but can be dangerous.

Burthorpe âââ‰â¬Å The town North of Taverly is Burthorpe. This contains the games room, and the easiest slayer master. This is where you can start to train your Slayer skill.

If we continue West from Taverly, we find our way impeded by White Wolf mountain. The path winds its way up and over the mountain. Beware of the wolves, they are aggressive. It might be an idea to run.

Having crossed the mountain, we find ourselves in Catherby. This is an excellent spot for fishing, though the conversation can get a bit immature. âââ¬ÃÅ(.)(.) LOL âââ‰â¬Å breasts!!!1111!âââ‰â¢ Once youâââ‰â¢ve fished a full load, there is a stove right next to the bank.

Follow the path North west, and we come to the Seers Village. A great place to buy and sell logs, or anything else, some regard this as the centre of Runescape. For certain items, Seers Bank rivals Fallador Park when trading on World2 (the trading world). Seers village is also home to the Party Hall, and the flax fields. Although fairly dull, picking flax is one of the best ways to make money for a new member, as bowstrings can sell for 150 each.

The path now goes South West, past the Rangers and Fishing Guilds, and on to Ardougne. The market in Ardougne is a great place for thieving âââ‰â¬Å the bakers stall contains cakes, providing the thief with free, high healing food. The Plague city quest, first in the longest quest line in Runescape, can also be started here

From Ardougne we can travel south over open country, past the Tree Gnome village to Yanille, home to the mages guild. To the North West is the Gnome Stronghold, containing the first Agility Course.

If we head back along the path we have taken, there are many other locations. To the Far North of the Seers Village lies Relleka, and the Fremmenik Trials Quest. To the far East of Varrock lies Morytania, for which the Priest in Peril Quest is required to enter.

At port Sarim there is a boat which will lead to Entrana, home to the Law Altar. Unfortunately, no weapons are allowed on this Island, by order of the monks. On Karamja, to the west of the island, lies Brimhaven, and to the south of Brimhaven is Tai Bwo Wannai village, and Shilo Village, deep within the deadly jungle.

South of Al Kharid is the desert. Always have something to drink, otherwise you may die of thirst. Within can be found Polniveach, the Bandit camp, and the infamous Kalphite lair.

In short, the members world is huge and bewildering. Walking through it is the best way to learn what it has to offer. There are many places which require quests to visit. So I will now give you a list of the quests I recommend you complete as soon as possible, to get the most from members. These quests may have quest requirements to start them, so check on the Tip.It guides, and do those previous quests

Fremmenik Trials âââ‰â¬Å lets you use make use of Rellekaâââ‰â¢s resources, and gives access to Miscellania, where the Throne of Miscellania quest can be done. Highly recommended!

Lost City âââ‰â¬Å gives access to Zanaris in Lumbridge swamps

Priest in Peril âââ‰â¬Å gives access to Morytania

Tree Gnome Village âââ‰â¬Å allows use of Spirit Tree teleports

The Grand Tree âââ‰â¬Å allows use of Gnome Gliders

Waterfall quest âââ‰â¬Å an excellent reward. Great experience, and 40 mithril seeds.

(these 3 quests are quite hard, but well worth it.

Druidic Ritual âââ‰â¬Å allows you to start the Herblore skill

The Hand in the Sand âââ‰â¬Å simply because I wrote the Tip.It quest guide

Castle Wars âââ‰â¬Å not a quest, but very, very fun!

And anything else you come across or fancy doing!

For training memberâââ‰â¢s skills, I recommend getting your agility up at the Gnome Stronghold and your slayer skill higher by visiting the slayer master in Burthorpe. Agility is especially useful, as it gives access to valuable shortcuts, and increases the rate at which your energy recovers.

Now, it has been pointed out to me that telling you good places to go is all very well, but what if you stray into one of the more...dangerous places?

Well, my first piece of advice is if you see a dragon, and you haven't got an anti-dragonbreath shield on you, run for it. Otherwise you will most llikely die.

If you do go after dragons, greens are probably the easiest, but being in the wilderness, you will probably be picked on by pkers. Take some tele runes.

If you are on Karamja, watch out for anything that might be poisonous. Better still, take an anti-poison potion with you. They are quite easy to make with herblore.

I'll say it again about the desert. Once through the Shantay Pass you will need plenty of water with you. Otherwise you will die very quickly. Ignore this at your peril.

Generally, be careful. If you need to head into a dangerous area to get something for a quest, bank all of your equipment. Monsters in P2P are generally tougher, and as such you should be wary of them. Of course, a cow is a cow, no matter where you find it! But you will find new creatures occupying areas which can make your life a misery. Of course, when your levels are high enough, you can slay these creatures and get great loot!

You will definitely see some quite unusual pieces of armour being worn by other players. Try not to bug them asking what it is, as they will probably get annoyed. Ask them politely where they got it if you must, the nicer ones should respond. If they donâââ‰â¢t, just take the hint.

Also, as has been pointed out to me, I had better warn you that some unscrupulous members may try to sell you items which, though they look unusual, are not worth that much. God Mjolnirs and Bone Spears are often used to con players out of there hard earned cash. Beware of scammers, and don't buy without checking the price first.

You should find out whatâââ‰â¢s what in no time, but with extra features continuously being added, there is always something else to do, and something new to find out.

And my final piece of advice? Have fun, and be nice!

    Credits

Vidi - suggested warning people about dangerous areas

I've probably missed out loads of useful stuff, but what do you think?

  10. Its just this simple - be courteous

though what does bug me is when someone asks your levels, then doesn't believe you.

    Boasting Noob: Magic Lvls?

    Boasting Noob: Bet I'm highest

    Random Guy1: 34

    Random Guy2: 27

    Me: What are you then?

Boasting Noob: I'm the best - 68!!!! You can look me up if you want

    Me: I'm lvl 71

    Boasting Noob: Sure...

Before you insult/ boast - check your facts!

  11. Is it tradeable?

    First post of the topic:

I just get my 250th ticket and exchange with void knight mace.

Wiht this, you can autocast all wave cast (air, earth, water, fire), crumble undead and claws of guthix.

    The stats bonus are:

    Attack: stab +19, slash -2, crush +37, Magic +8, range 0.

    Defence: all 0

    Strength +34

    Prayer +3.

    Its not tradeable.

Hope that answers your question

  12. Thats what I tried! my attack comes to 79 with a super attack potion, I upped my strength with a standard strength pot, and even put +15% attack prayer on. Still 0's all the way :(

Perhaps its the D Battle Axe at fault - this could be an excuse to buy that D Scimi.

Thanks for the Item gathering info - cheap coal here I come!

  13. That big snake, right at the end, seems to be immune to my attacks. I have tried both melee and magic

    Attack 66

    Strength 63

    Magic 71

Ok, these stats aren't exactly high, but they aren't low either. So I was wondering, whats the lowest that anyone has killed that horrendous thing with?

PS: I'll just hijack my own thread to ask this :)

Are the costs per item for the miscellanian object gathering the same without having done royal trouble as with having done royal trouble? And if you understood that question, you may have a metaphorical cookie.
