This new generation has been massively developed, and is not just a shortgap update. Main changes: * Touchstrip: I am afraid to say, WACOM have abolished the touchstrip. Hurrah! Boo hiss! Funnily enough although a majority of our artist colleagues probably have the touchstrip disabled, a rare few love the touchstrip to scroll through a variety of objects. Luckily enough, after some persuasion, one of our artists managed to come around to the new way of life without the touchstrip via the new feature, the Touchring and OLED key buttons. * Wires dont come attached: WACOM have cleverly ensured there no longer is a requirement to have the USB/Serial port connected to the tablet as standard. Instead, it uses a micro USB attachment. Simple, common sense Genius! * Slight increase in price: Purely down to the UK/Euro exchange and (the neccesary evil) global forces....now in UK, we pay the same price of the tablets as you would get in germany/euroland. But seriously, Intuos are good solid investments. And as I've been saying for years, dont leave home without one. IMPROVED FEATURES Features we really liked in the studio: * Touch Ring: works very well; primarily useful for canvas rotate and brush resize * Tactileness: improve surface area response, likened to painting on paper. In otherwords, the surface has real teeth * Pen pressure + Pen ID: minimal pressure required (2048 levels of pressure has a noticable difference, coupled with their new tip sensor technology), allowing the reduction of Repetitive strain issues, improved response (ideal for those heavy handed useers), and best of all the new wacom drivers recognise different pens (and thus allows different user settings to be used with the tablets) * Expresskeys: 8 x 4 = 32 shortcuts/modifiers potential (you can very easily paint without using the key much) * Ergonomics: Wacom have really developed this well, and not jsut for looks either. It is both aesthetically pleasing and robustly functional + Additional FAT pen grip + Ambidextrous usage (for L or R handers, just flip it about, and slide a switch below the tablet). Because Wacom have cunningly used a standard micro USB to USB connection, no more owrries about cord damage inherent in the Intuos 1 and Intuos 2 generation + Matte surface (instead of the shiny MAC trend) and overall stealth look has a very solid feel and build. + Function keys : INTENTIONALLY, designed to be ever so slightly undulating for ease of tactile response and feel. Applause for attention to detail, to the clever clever folks at wacom indeed! + Weighted pen nib: Alright, the first toy wacom will have you want to check out is the way, the nib and mini caliper are cleverly hidden within the pen nibstand. Wacoms attention to fine details and functional form results in a very pruposeful aesthetic for the pen nib holder. It has a good storage purpose and not jsut to show off your beautiful new pen. For the fine connousours of wacom nibs, DO check out the slightly rubberrised pen nib (small plastic/rubber end on the far tip) + 6D Art Pens - can have small colour ring codings - via a variety of circular coloured rings to further distinguish your new i4 pen vs others should your studio have a few of these floating about. * A4 vs A5: The A5 has its OLED and function keys located closer within reach, and thus is very very useful for use in the field/plein air. One standard human hand span, covers all Eight function keys and Touchring with ease. In contrast, the A4 lower 4 keys and touch ring are within easier acess. Leaving the upper four keys slightly further beyond reach (i.e you have to stretch your arm a wee bit to get to it) * Intuos4 A5 vs 12WX: I personally feel the new A5 will be a wacom bestseller, and folks have a good choice between the 12 WX or the new I4 A5 for plein aire use paired with a laptop for use in a cafe/field. Cables/battery power issues in consideration, I feel the new A5 would be a logical functional useful choice. NICE TO HAVE Feedback: Things I feel would be nice to have in the future would be: * WACOM i4 wireless mouse. The old Intuos 2 and 3 came with a mouse. Or just look and see what suits you best. I think the Graphire might be on sale too, but it's a bit outdated and hard to find.

Intuos series is mostly aimed at professionals, so my best bet is that you go with a Bamboo, it's not the best, but it's still good. It's kinda cheap too.

Install/update the drivers, check if you got the right ones, and check the tip feels, drag the slider all the way to Soft, it might help a bit with it. And try with another USB port.

Oh god no. But any sound is much better than the sound from the Wacom Bamboo, it sounds like a needle on paper. <_< I'm getting me the medium one, the small one is just too small. My Graphire 4 XL had died, so we take the next best after Cintiq. I had saved up around £400 for Cintiq, then I had to pay the dentists. But hey, teeth are more important than Cintiq. :P

Today, I was shaving off my beard for the first time in a very long time. I decided to have a little fun with it, and shaved my beard first into a goatee, then a handle-bar, then, finally, into a Hitler mustache. My electric razor dies. I don't have a normal one or an extra battery. FML Good that you didn't. :P

No, I'm using veggie dye. It's natural dye, not tested on animals etc, semi-permanent, stays for 4-6 weeks, depends how hard you are on with the shampoo. I mean people in general who use normal dye? :P Because I know a girl who used to bleach + dye her hair a different colour pretty much every day. That is suicide to hair, it's ok to touch up roots with permanent dye, but not to change the colour every month, only use veggie dye for that. Tip her with Manic Panic/Directions, much healthier for her hair. star, stay away from the wax and the hairspray if you want to keep your hair healthy, abuse haircure twice a week, and your hair will stay healthy. I haven't cut mine for two-three years, and almost no split ends.

Known veggie dyes: Special Effects Dye, Manic Panic, LaRiche Directions, not sure on Stargazer and Crazy Colour. Semi-permanent dyes are the best, it does go away after some washes, especially red and blue do, but it's best for your hair, and doesn't glue itself to the hair like the permanent ones do. If my hair had fallen off after all this dying, my hair wouldn't have been 31inches/80cm, been dying it for over a half year or so, mostly with veggie dyes, and permanent when it comes to bleach and removing red colour. :P
