  1. Owned, darkmage. :P And what exactly do you mean by this? Some people actually do believe the bible is the literal, unedited word of god.

Now, when you say thoughts and morals, do you mean morals integrated into ourselves since birth, or morals that we gain in life? :-k And trap, I'm not sure I get the "5,621" connection to souls. Maybe to the mind, but the soul and mind are generally seperated in philosophy. I'd tend to agree with BlueLancer there with the idea that morality is synonomous to our soul. In reference to the evolution of a soul or our morals, some ascribe to the theory (my self included) that morality is a mechanism to facilitate evolution as it promotes the strength and longevity of the species.
  3. I believe never. It can be harmful to a society if the masses of it do actually stereotype and look down on a particular race. I believe here in Australia, the muslim population has been looked at differently since 9/11. Because of this, they feel segregated and persecuted and, in my opinion, are becoming an anti social sect. No offense intended to any muslim person, quite the contrary, as it's the masses behaviour that makes them feel victimised.
  4. See, now you're turning this into something else entirely. No, I most likely wouldn't go up to that person that has a chance of murdering me but just because one black male is a murdurer does not mean I would avoid the whole culture. You should take every individual on face value, not just make blanket statements like I'm going to avoid all of culture 'x' just because an overwhelming minority could harm me. But Thats a 1% chance. It's exactly the same. 100 Black people, 1 was out to murder you, It's a logical reason to stay away from that race, it's not because they are black or i feel i am superior too them. It's because there is a pretty good chance i could be killed it has nothing to do with what race they are. By the way, this is hypothetical, i don't stay away from black or any type of race. Because this is a hypothetical argument, and we are talking about murder not theft. And there are Billions of black people, not 100 and the odds of a black person wanting to kill me is not 1/100. You can deal with hypotheticals all you like, I'd rather model my behaviour on what happens in the real world.

What I mean is how does your belief work in the word we live in. And I don't expect to get miracles out of the blue, quite the contrary.

The only thing I really appose to is how religions try to formulate 'evidence' and use 'science' to support thier conclusion. I'm not surprised though, seeing as they try to get as many followers as possible, they these days try to appeal to people who aren't stupid (no offense intended to anyone) and who have actual scientific evidence on thier side. You're right in saying religions come and go too, Tigra. To be honest I wouldn't be too suprised if Christianity eventualy did die out as we learn more and more about the world we live in. The morals may live on but take a different form, who knows. Islam is another story and my money would be on Islam being the most long lived of the two as middle eastern countries have little to no separation of church (or mosque, if you like  :P ) and state. Have you ever thought, that religion is more than just a belief. Why would the average person want to belief in a plain-old religion? Have you ever thought that we see our belief working in the world we live in. That yes we've experienced miracles ourselves, through our faith and such. Its not something I'd expect an atheist like you two, to actually understand, (especially considering you both have no faith). Its not something you can judge especially since you haven't experienced it. Yes, it's a different and changed life I have through my faith. Firstly, I'm not an atheist, I'm an agnostic and secondly, yes I understand fully why people have faith in religion and have nothing against that. I often wonder what caused the big bang but don't feel the need to worship a god because of it. I have a questioning nature, just like the next guy and just happen to fill that need with science and not religion. Just out of interest, could you explain how you see that religion or god presents itself in the real world without miracles, because I have yet to experience one of those. And I'd rather a different answer to 'if you never have faith, you'll never get it' because I am very open minded and will never refuse to believe anything for no reason.

Some fundamentalists (who are obviously fundamentalists by the way thier site is set up) will try to convey the 'fact' that the earth is 6000 years old by using evidence, but of course they fail dismally because in the scientific realm, which is completely void of belief, we know that this is untrue and have mountains of evidence to suggest so. At least you are honest. Perhaps others concede this in thier mind as well and don't (or can't) prove thier belief with science which is possibly why I haven't had many participants in my topic. Prove me wrong if you like guys, that's what it's there for.
  9. Do you understand what you just said in your answers? I sure as hell didn't. No, not in the sense that you're wrong, but in the sense that there's no way in hell that anyone would know what [a] God wants us to do or what it is. I agree with Edward Elric. Hiding behind the religious bs riddles that you don't even understand isn't a proper answer. No, I'm not an atheist  . That is because you obviously do not understand the Christian religion. And Yes, I do understand what this means. -1 Corinthians 1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" Now it is wether you believe this or not. It amazes me how people can be so incredibly sure of god's intentions and purpose for us as the bible was not written by him. Therefore, you're placing all your trust in the imperfection of mankind and assuming they documented and translated everything precisely, and made no errors or omissions be they intended or accidental. Full marks for being trustworthy though. This reminds me of a rather funny joke by Bill Hicks. I'll run over the gist of it: Bill's father is a christian and believes the bible is the literal word of god, word for word. Bill says he can prove to his dad that it's not. He asks his dad to read the front cover of the bible. Bill's dad obliges and reads "Holy Bible" (depicted by Bill in a hilarious southern accent). Bill then sais "what else does it say?" Bill's dad replies "King James' Version." Haha, it's one of those things you have to see, trust me it's funny. Give "Bill Hicks" a search in Youtube. Great stuff.
  10. What if only 95% of them wanted you dead? I would still have a good reason to avoid them. Hell, I would avoid a race if 1% wanted me dead. It's still logical to avoid someone when the chance that they will kill you is 1/100. So.. by that logic, it's also alright to kick blacks, gypsies, teens, and other groups, out of your store because a minority steal? Or don't send your kids to church people! A minority of priests had sex with boys. The priests can't be trusted! No, this is the stupidest conversation I have ever had. If there where 100 people in a race, and I knew one of them wanted to murder me. I'd stay away from them. Discrimination is acting on prejudice, prejudice is acting on a a beleif that you are superior to someone without a logical reason. The fact talking to this person could mean a 1/100 chance they'd kill me counts as a logical reason. It would be different in real life since a 1/3 Billion chance would change things. What's not logical about what I said? You'd avoid all blacks because a minority steal. I see the logic perfectly. Fools logic if ya ask me. Everyone of a particular ethnic group has evil intentions until proven otherwise. It's a potentially hurtful and disrespectful generalisation.
  11. Would you report everyone any chance you get?
  12. warri0r45 replied to Blue_Eggz's topic in Off-Topic
Statistics could probably back you up there too.
  13. See, now you're turning this into something else entirely. 14. It's amazing how all the bible based games get a perfect score for occult/supernatural. Aparrantly they think supernatural is natural. Comparing the pokemon game to 'the disproven theory of evolution' is an absolute joke as well. What a hoot. :XD:  :P
  15. What if only 95% of them wanted you dead? I would still have a good reason to avoid them. Hell, I would avoid a race if 1% wanted me dead. It's still logical to avoid someone when the chance that they will kill you is 1/100. Dude, that's just being pessemistic about life. Everything has a chance of killing you. If you are really serious about avoiding people that have a slight chance of killing you, then avoid objects that can kill you and stop using electrical appliances, stop swimming anywhere, stop driving/riding in a car, stop eating any food that you didn't grow yourself, never go within 100 meters of a smoker, etc, etc, etc. Sorry if you think I'm way off, but avoiding something just because 1% of it wants to/can kill you is pessemistic to me.
  16. Fifths are power chords. They are the chords used in basically all rock/punk songs and are very bland and generic, but not always. I'll give an example: A D5 chord is a powerchord with the root of D. It has two other notes other than the root, these being the 5th note (the note 7 frets up from the root) and the octave of the root note (the note 12 frets up from the root).
  17. What's that? I know what genotypes and phenotypes are, but I've never heard that term before. Edit: Nevermind, I've educated myself. :P Genetics FTW.
  18. What if only 95% of them wanted you dead? Owned. #-o Especially seeing as an entire ethnic group will collectively never want you dead, not in the real world anyway.
  19. You mean that 3 million year old or so hominid? Interesting stuff, but not quite what this topic was desiged for.
  20. I like sus 2's :? :uhh: I always (subconciously) avoid 5ths when writing music, they are teh boring. :-w

Interesting views there gonpost. You're quite right in saying that we can't attain proof of something 100%; there will always be uncertainties. Having said that, there is conclusive and compelling evidence that the earth is not 6000 years old, whether you choose to accept it or not is dependant on the person, but it's given to us by nature itself. Radioactive materials, old trees, rock layers, sediment layers et al all suggest an old earth. I could suggest they were clues left by god (to please the theists out there) as it's just as likely becuase god himself (nor anyone in the bible) said 'the earth is 'x' years old or was created in year 'x.' So you are right, we can't prove anything 100%, but we can and are getting closer and closer to that figure every day. Ultimately it all boils down to who/what you trust. The clues left everywhere in nature which suggest the earth is billions of years old or a book written by man which may or may not allude to the earth's exact age depending on the accuracy of the information of the people protrayed and thier ages. Meh, sorry for that, ramblings over.

@ Locke, I think you've forced the point about tigra's technicality enough, just let it go before you start sounding like a nazi. @ Satenza, do you really think most christians are so weak minded that they will read the bible and walk away with thoughs of genocide, murdur and rape? That's a tad pessemistic.
  24. warri0r45 replied to Notorious_Ice's topic in Off-Topic
Satenza, not everyone accepts what the bible says blindly; oddly, some christians employ common sense. The fact that you say the bible is not a good moral handbook is an opinion on your part. people will not always look at the bible blindly and come to conclusions such as 'genocide is good.'
  25. warri0r45 replied to Notorious_Ice's topic in Off-Topic
They knew the earth was round before 300 BC. Get your facts straight. And has been said time and time again, the Bible is valued for it's moral guidelines, not for the literal truth of the stories it tells. Not it's not. It's valued by people within it's religion. Most other people can clearly see the Bible as nothing other than a book which attempts to put across such morals and does so very badly. If it had done it in a decent way people wouldn't mistake these morals and be able to justify killing people. It's used as a moral guideline book for some and taken as fact for others. In other words, It's not interpreted universally, thus why I can hardly agree with people who attain it as undeniable truth. The bible did not come with an instruction manual which sais exactly how to interpret it and as it was written by man, I, personally, see it as more of a moral guideline book.
