  1. Leave it on the ground and let someone else get something for nothing. This game would have zero interest for me if i could buy all the stuff I need/want in one shot with no effort.
  2. I agree this will stop people from breaking the rules, because if they get 3 banned accounts then they would have to go to somebody elses house or a library or something just to play runescape.. The fact is, NOTHING will stop people from breaking the rules. That is why this just isn't a workable idea. And IP banning just does not work. Period.
  3. Admitting you have a problem is the first step...
  4. After posting a couple times in this thread already, I've looked back and noticed something. Around 90% of the F2P complaints are based on the fact that they have no room for RANDOM EVENT CLOTHES/ITEMS. Boo-Freakin-hooooooo. Throw it out. Do you really think Jagex is going to spend money on F2P (and if you missed my earlier post: bank space = server space = money)so they can store random event costumes? No one is supposed to play F2P long enough to even worry about that kind of stuff. It's absolutely sickening to hear these F2P lifers whine and cry about anything in the game. You DO NOT deserve more space, you DO NOT deserve more updates, you DO NOT deserve a say in anything game related. Jagex has absolutely no obligation to you whatsoever. Get over yourselves. Oh, BTW. If I offend, my apologies. Giving up on the ciggys is hard.
  5. Let me tell you something. I am F2P. I can become a member. I have the money. But there are two major problems: I don't have a credit card and that damn "monthly-fee" IS crap. I'd prefer paying an one-time fee of... let's say... $40 (still bad though, 80 in my country  ), I'd be a member right away. People say this because they have credit cards and think everyone else does. I don't, I don't live in the USA/England. Some members are jerks with F2Ps, BTW. Check out the "Why can't F2P have..." thread. F2Ps are scum? Demo? 6 years ago it wasn't a damn demo. It never was. It was the main form of play. It isn't a demo, it's a RESTRICTED version of the game- it is fair, you get what you pay for. In a demo, you do a single mission, quest, and whatever with 2 or 3 weapons and restricted everything. F2P is by far larger by that. I'm not saying you and other members that think alike are hypocrites or stupid, just a bit ignorant. We don't pay, no major updates? Crap, that got worst! Seriously, we SHOULD (not deserve or need, notice that) get major updates, but not a lot. We get roughly one per year. $5 is nothing? Not for the thousands of poor children here in Brazil or that don't receive money or even parents who can't waste anything. They can't waste a penny, saying it's nothing is useless. Seriously, this is Anti-BANKSPACE thread, not Anti-f2p n00bz! thread. And some members should be more... friendly and respectful towards their past (not those who started RS as a member, those who started as F2Ps). Click here to flame me. Oh, and "nice" people can call this thread "Grand Theft Auto" and the people against it "Jack Thompson". #1 The argument about bank space always comes back to money because *surprise* Jagex is a business. I pay my membership one year at a time since I don't have a credit card. It's not up to Jagex or anyone else to make the game accessible to everyone. #2 Sorry, but a "DEMO" is a restricted version of a product for demonstration purposes only(Look at any major software seller that offers "demo" proggys {this is often referred to as "crippled software"}) - to show consumers what they will be buying. F2P fits that exactly no matter how long its been around or how you feel about it. #3 You SHOULD, Jagex SHOULD? Interesting. Jagex SHOULD and does do what is best for Jagex. Period. And as far as poor children in Brazil, since when did Jagex become a charity? #4 Yes, it is an Anti-Bankspace thread, NOT an anti-P2P thread, which your rant appears to be (maybe not intentionally but it really looks that way) I started out as F2P and joined P2P because I could, not because I turned traitor to all my F2P brothers and sisters. And frankly, to imply that this is some kind of moralistic debate about freedom of speech and expression is absurd and distasteful. #5 Runescape is a game produced by Jagex. They do it because they want to make money. They were good enough to allow people to play free for as long as they want, instead of 30 days etc.. like most companies do. If you don't like the limitations of free play, get a members account. If for whatever reason you can't, then be happy you can play at all. Just stop complaining that you don't get for free what other people pay for.
  6. First off, regardless of what F2P lifers may think, F2P was is and always will be a demo. The astronomical cost of bandwidth, servers, financial transactions, contracts, support staff, development staff, lawyers and on and on is why the game isn't free. The fact that you believe Jagex owes you something for letting you play a demo for an unlimited amount of time is simply astounding. As far as adding more bank space to F2P OR P2P, there are certain restrictions. The biggest and likely only reason Jagex rarely creates more bank space is, well, space. The game, in its entirety, exists on servers. Every time you click on something anywhere, your PC talks to the server, which sends the info back to you. Consider how many slots there are in a row, how much HDD space each slot requires and multiply that by each player (free or paid) and keep in mind that the info needs to be stored ALL THE TIME. It adds up. Not only that, but the more bandwidth required to run the game means slower gameplay for people with slower/less reliable connections.
  7. Well, I suppose from the viewpoint of an intellectually challenged video game player, I really don't see the need to have anything but light, entertaining reading. This is not a newspaper and I don't read the Tip.It Times because I want a serious article. I also don't require that an opinion piece convince me of anything, it's enough that the person has taken the time to "put it out there". Remember, this is not a debate but a volunteer operated "column". I also must say I find it amusing that I apparently have no standards nor dignity in myself simply because I don't think it necessary to eliminate the entertainment in the Times. That you would consider me a good example of the lack of maturity of most players, certainly since I have never spoken to you in game, is laughable and your implication that the Editor him/herself is nothing but a drooling moron is rather unpleasant. Lastly, where is the implication that the Times is anything but the authors opinion and that there is any requirement to follow any standards but those the Tip.It crew decide on? It seems to me that the vast majority of readers thus far have had no trouble understanding the authors point and many have enjoyed the humor included in the article.
  8. I must assume from this post that you have never once picked up a newspaper and read the Editorials section? I am sick of seeing complaints and rants in the comments like yours. The Times is not a news article, nor is it a college paper. It is an Editorial, an OPINION piece meant to entertain as well as inform. If you dislike the writing style so much, subscribe to the Globe and Mail - don't read something someone has volunteered their time to write and post on a site that someone else has paid for and provided to you free of charge, and then tell them they aren't up to your intellectual standards.
  9. My final comment, "I'll leave that to the 10 year olds" wasn't meant to be taken literally. It's common in editorial style comments to end with a "parting shot", a bit of humor that reflects the general idea of the body of the comment. It wasn't a generalization, saying that all 10 year olds complain and all complainers are 10 year olds. Think of it as a reflection on the general consensus of the posts that it's 10 year olds who are the problem.
  10. First, I wont restate the already good, well thought out point on both sides. It's nice to see an intelligent disagreement for once. (You know who you are). As an "Old-School" gamer, coming from games like Warcraft2Battle.net, where the focus was on skill, and other online and offline RPG's that required some actual thought, the last year in Runescape has been disappointment after disappointment. I'll use my "main" as an example. Two years ago when i started playing this game, I saw, early on, a level 100 in Edgeville while mining coal. I was very impressed at the time and have since then made it a major goal to get to 100 combat while also training the skills I need to support that goal (fishing, cooking, herblore etc..) I recently hit 100 combat, and I didn't even bother messaging the people on my list about it. What does that have to do with anything? Simply this: the Game, as it stands now requires little skill or thought. It doesn't even require much time. I've been called a noob because it took me 2 years to get 100 combat and my almost flat 80's is seen as a joke (one more defence and 5 range to go) by players who have spent 2 months at pest control and have triple digit combat levels but very low totals and no knowledge of the game. Add to that the many updates making it easier/less time consuming to train or acquire materials(new thieving mini game and tower of life for Ex.) and it's obvious the focus of Jagex is lazy younger players. The problem is, making a game for players that young does not create loyalty to the game. I would be willing to risk that as much as they have seen an increase in new members, they have seen a fairly balanced decrease. Young kids get bored and leave. If they aren't challenged and can attain high levels immediately they will soon leave. And, frankly, the dumbing down/removing risk/ hand-holding/"family friendly" approach makes stupid, ignorant players with no respect for each other. Jagex may not be obligated to listen to their players, but without the players (and happy, loyal players most importantly) they don't exist. Period. I'm finding it harder to defend this Game that I've put so much time into to people who tell me that other games are far better. One last random point.. I agree with the gameplay issue. As much as I like to see updates, if Jagex said on their main page that for the next month or two there would be no updates because they were doing a massive overhaul of the game engine/coding and re-evaluating the rules I would stand and applaud instead of complaining. I'll leave that to the 10 year olds.
  11. First off, I don't agree with luring. However, for the most popular lure (wildy) it really is in most cases the victims fault. I know the comparisons with real life are many, and they are valid to a point (we are all real people after all) but this is a GAME. That is not to say that its right to lure into the wildy, just that it isn't really wrong either. Hence Jagex using the line "isn't in the spirit of the game" Intentionally vague. People, however, seem to be forgetting the other lures out there. The ones that are blatant offenses. Just recently Jagex made it impossible to extinguish light sources in all the dark places. The Fally Mole was a popular lure spot(I have seen and intervened in dozens of lures to the mole while getting 80 firemaking) as most players don't know of it - even high levels(of course, there are so many ignorant high combats because of PC now that it's easy to find a victim) - and don't realize that putting out your light kills you since if a warning is present it doesn't say that bugs will swarm you. The thing is, with a mostly moral debate there is no one answer. The best you can do is follow what you believe to be right and "in the spirit of the game", help new players BEFORE yelling NOOB!!, have fun with your friends, and turn your computer off once in awhile and go outside. PS: I say mostly moral debate because in most cases, luring is in the gray area and Jagex has been careful to make that clear.
  12. Thats a good one if you know where it comes from. *WARNING: USELESS INFO* An old Brit sitcom called "Keeping Up Appearances" featured an old busybody named Hyacinth Bucket, who in her everlasting quest to climb the social ladder would often repeat the phrase "It's pronounced Bouquet!" *END OF USELESS INFO* I like the Gorak examine(drops Gorak claws for mage ess pots in Fairytale 2) "Gorak by name, Gorak by nature"
  13. Nice, but far too complicated. The fastest way is to stay at Crimsons till 15 or so, go on to copper longtails till 32-35, then green swamp lizards. That will get you to about 50 in little time. Otherwise, you have a lot of travel time. Not to mention that tracking, deadfall, and pitfalls are really slow forms of hunting, and falconry isn't much better. Oh, and don't bother baiting net traps or wearing camo gear for areas - it really doesn't help enough to bother with. One other note.. You can buy full water skins from shantay for 30gp each. If you carry about 5 and have lots of buckets of water in the bank, run to Nardah and refill them instead of running halfway across the desert looking for water. You can bring a knife however and cut the cactus close by the orange salamander spot to lengthen your stay. 5/10
  14. To make sure you don't get killed by a random, only click once. Click on the spot, and wait for about 5-10 seconds, making 100% sure that you aren't being attacked. When it's safe, you can afk all you want. That's how I do all my afk work (Fishing, Cooking, Fletching, etc). that wont work with that sandwich lady and what make it worst is the sandwich lady dont stop you from fishing, while she dont make much noise when she appears, that make it very hard to detect Just so you know, randoms ONLY come at a mouse click. They never come at any other time. Click once, wait a few seconds, then read some forums or whatever. I've never been caught off guard by a random when afk-ing.
  15. Psssst.... BLAST FURNACE! I can't remember what quest(s) you need to use the Keldagrim furnace but it requires only half the coal for bars. I won't go into huge detail, since this is your guide, but here goes: 1: Withdraw in notes equal numbers of coal and iron (there is a bank in Keldagrim, but it's a looong walk). Nats (1/5 the number of ore), a fire staff (weild it) and a few k gp to start with. 2:You will probably have to solo this since I have not seen more than 1 or 2 people at the furnace ever, so grab a shovel, bucket and hammer in the furnace room. 3:There is a guy there who sells ores so Un-note 20 coal, put on belt. Un-note 20 iron, put on belt. Go thru the furnace process (ask dwarves in room) Smith 4 plates in the smithing area in the same room then alch. Rinse and repeat. You can also make 1k steel bars and trade to a steel company for 2k coal, 1k iron. (This is much faster if you can find a bar runner). That way you end up with an extra 1k coal free which you can then sell or re-use with iron you mine to recover any expenses. Another thing to note: If you have large amounts of iron, you can smelt up to 28 bars in the furnace at a time and it's 100% bars to ores(just like using a forging ring). Then make some iron tips or knives in the smithing area and repeat. This is my prefered method since iron is cheaper to unnote and knives/arrows are pretty east to sell. This to me is an exceptional way to get smithing exp fast and without bank runs. PS. Excuse my crowded and not-so-very good explanation, but it's late and I had an 18 hour day so... PPS.. grr I just remembered there is a guide of some description somewhere on Tip.It explaining the furnace... Whatever
  16. 1. I don't want a new game, cause all my life is in this one. If it's a new game then your character in RS2 will have nothing to do with it.. might as well complain you can't transfer your character to WoW. 2. Graphics Argh.. why wont you people stop with the graphics complaint. 3D graphics do not an MMORPG make. Most of you are probably too young to remember MUDs (text based message board games) or even  D&D where you wrote a story on paper and rolled dice. RS has something that most MMORPGs don't - a story and history worthy of a novel. Something else to consider is that if JAGEX wants to branch out further in the world, then simple graphics are mandatory - as technology is slower to improve in many parts of the world. (Not to mention lack of even reliable dial-up, never mind broadband). A new RS style game would be nice, as there are, in my opinion, many core gameplay issues that need to be solved.(can anyone say same XP from chickens as you get from KBD?) In the end tho.. as long as enough people play RS2 I doubt JAGEX will "delete" everyone and bin it. It isn't that hard to maintain the servers after all - not when they're being paid for it. Oh yeah... DOOOOOOOOOOOOOD HORSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh how I wish they would make an entire continent of mounted only play. New armour and weapon sets, new mini-games (cavalry against hords of infantry woo) and a mounted wildy. Ahh one can dream.
  17. Hmm... So if Zammy is destroyed, as seems to be the plot atm, then the balance between good and evil is gone. Sara will have absolute power, since guth is neutral more or less. So then the old saying absolute power corrupts absolutely is the obvious next step. The RS equiv of the Anti-Christ wooo.
  18. Ahh cool thanks. Been wasting time killing flesh crawlers lol... I WANT A CBOW
  19. Is there a known amount of time you have to wait after completing Regicide before you get a message to start Roving Elves? Or did I read the quest guide wrong and can start it anytime at the start point?
  20. OK, so i started playing PC for the first time today after reading the article, (first mini-game I've actually played since getting mems 3 months ago) and after playing 100 games i have.. wait for it... ONE WIN!!!!!!! This has to be the most frustrating game in RS. I took the two minutes required to read the guide and paid attention the first few game I played and now I know what needs to be done, more or less. What really makes me mad is the people you tell over and over how to get wins and they refuse to listen, or they use the lame and tired "my main owns you n00b so sdfu." Like it or not, it's the lower level players who ruin the game 9 times out of 10. I decided to play because I wanted the xp from wins, the same which, it seems, can't be said for the low levels and the sad little ego freaks that think levels in RS mean anything in life and don't want to listen. Conclusion.. It's just not fun. Maybe it would make a bit of difference if you had to read thru a tutorial before you played.. that way at least you should know what's going on.
  21. You can use member items on free worlds. Many features are not exclusive to members worlds. Some things you try will give you this "you must be on a members server", and others will be "you must be a member".
