  1. That isn't quite related to ethics. It's more along the lines of don't rely on incompetent people XD When a project deciding wheter i'd pass a class or not was due the next day, i wouldn't be able to sleep, lol. EDIT: It's alright, Thus. You should have left it and not edit it. This topic is made for debates :P, although when it comes down to personal references or such remarks it becomes somewhat less general and just that...personal. I think we should leave all personal comments and references aside as it discourages constructive feedback :)
  2. I fear that by stating this we will be moving alot into philosophical territory, which could very well be beyond the scope of the article, but - what is so good about being ethical? Why is it a quality? People avoid being unethical (atleast in public) for fear of punishment, but if we cannot provide them with sufficient reason for them to truly be ethical, then how can we expect them to be?
  3. I couldn't abstain myself from posting in response to Sees_all's article: It's funny you should give a few examples of your real life experiences on cheating. Mine have been very different in that cheating is very common here in school institutions and getting caught merely results in a warning. For example, if you get caught during an exam, they just tell you 'Don't do it anymore' and let you resume. Having said that, you can anticipate imy shock by the fact that students were kicked out simply because they didnt report the violation. I do have (or used to have) very strong views against cheating but when you're surrounded by it and all those around you succeed in secuing a good job despite (or perhaps because of) their cheating, it just makes you think 'what's the point in NOT cheating?' The answer to that in real life could be that although you get through with cheating in such a permissive enviroment as the one i live in, when i will eventually come in contact with stricter rules i will most likely suffer dire consequences because of my years of cheating...maybe that's it. What about the answer to that question when we're talking about a video game? Some would say that what makes it challenging and as a result fun to play is keeping a fair playing enviroment. Should there be any other reasons besides that in favour of NOT cheating? Besides all the ethics and the self satisfaction of achieving something for yourself, are there really any other sufficient reasons to avoid cheating, other than the fear of punishment?
  4. It does appear to be drawing in the crowds, which is ultimately what it's about i suppose. It won't be a commercial flop but the fact that it got bad reviews (unheard of for a Pixar movie before) is a bit mind-boggling :P As animated films are becoming more and more popular there are constantly new contenders, but ofcourse Pixars over 15 years of untouchable reputation will mean that the normal audiences still have alot of high regard for them.
  5. As you may be aware of, Cars 2, the 12th Pixar full-length movie has been released 2 days ago. For those who are fans of the animation studios films, they may know that past Pixar films have received glowing reviews from critics and regular audiences alike. 10 out of 12 of these have received approval from over 90% of the critics, which include two sequels for the Toy Story franchise, which broke the general myth that sequels are usually worse than the initial films, by receiving even better reviews than the first! The only film that, up until this point, had dragged Pixar's acclaim down somewhat had been the initial release of Cars, which only achieved 74% of the critics liking, which is still considered better than average. This record has now been broken with the release of Cars 2 which achieved a new low in the likes of 34% - 60% maximum range, being called rotten by most critics. Has the era of Pixar domination ended or is this an expected result considering the initial Cars film wasn't particularly shinning to begin with? I myself have not seen the film yet and it is unlikely that i will since i am one of those not particularly fond of Cars, but i found it mind-blowing to see a 34% rotten rating from critics on a Pixar film. What's your opinion on it? :D
  6. I think during some research i did a month ago i saw that they changed it to Just about gaming experience, or something. I believe it is no longer Java gaming experts. I'm sorry i am unable to provide you with the link where i saw it, or in what context, as i have forgotten it since then and have visited many other websites but i'm fairly sure it doesnt stand for Java gaming experts anymore, as i remember it struck me immediatly when i noticed they had changed it, so i remembered it well.
  7. You should have seen them prior to 2009 :P They were alot less upfront and generally very secretive of their intentions. I would say they are relatively transparent towards MOST of their intentions, nowadays :)
  8. Perhaps you could also illustrate another scene from this description: As one of the warriors lunged with the sword in his left hand to attack, he left his left shoulder exposed and his opponent dealt a cut with his sword to the warriors upper arm. Maybe you can illustrate the exact moment when the cut occured, with the sword very near the surface of the skin and maybe even with some blood around the cut. I'm sorry i cannot illustrate this better, just try and create that aswell and post it here so i can give my feedback. Cheers.
  9. Questions: When you say 'nothing else as far as the two are wearing' you mean they should be wearing the same things they are in the pic, except with the aforementioned edits, correct? What i had in mind was that they shouldnt be wearing anything else except the mentioned pieces (aka show the skin itself). Ofcourse to prevent indecent showings there could be some rags in those areas. I want it to be relatively basic in terms of what they are wearing, that's my reasoning behind it. Do you mind color or no-color, as I'd like to take the opportunity to draw in pencil if that's cool with you. I would prefer color, although adequatly detailed grey would work. My intention is that i include it in part 2 of the fictional (since there probably isn't enough time for it to be included in part 1). Part 2 will also focus more on fighting and i will submit it in 2 weeks from now, so there's plenty of time i hope. Perhaps you could submit, if time allows you, some works in progress as the days go by? That way there would be more feedback on my part and more communication between us. Thanks for taking on the task :)
  10. Alright, i am requesting the following The above picture is for reference. What i would like is that instead of the whip, the warrior be wielding a sword (medium-sized, runite color). The warrior should have only a shield and perhaps something in the likes of a verac brassard. For the ranger, i would like him to have, instead of the bow two swords, one in each hand, and a medium-helmet. Nothing else as far as the two are wearing or wielding. I would like them to be in the exact same stance as they are in the reference image above. As far as the surroundings go, they should be as close as possible to the ones in the reference image. The above image is from a short CG video. It does not have to be cg, traditional 2d animation will work perfectly. Contact me for more details and if you like anything in return for making it:)
  11. The release of a new part will always depend on wheter the previous was received positively or not. There would obviously be no point in releasing part 3 if part 2 was viewed with dismay. Seeing current reactions i think it is safe to say the next one will be released, however i'd like to state that i will take on a somewhat different topic before part 3, simply to break up the routine and monotony of the series. I say 'somewhat different' because it still relates to classic, but it will be released under a distinct name, different style and will be about....well you'll see. For that i am afraid there is little hope that it will come next week, as i want to take time to make sure it sounds exactly how i want it to. After part 3, i'll see if and how i want to further develop the subject, though i can guarantee it won't reach Part Nth. That's just because i hate repetitive titles; it will probably be named something else. Thank you for reading :)
  12. During my research i also found out about Cyberwars on GamesDomain. Apparently not everyone migrated onto runescape. For the part relating to the first ever 99, that is actually mentioned in Part 3 as a DYK. I tried, however, to avoid naming specific players for several reasons, one being that perhaps they did not want to have their names appear. I focused on the game itself rather than individual players, although it is not less true that it is the players themselves who have influenced and shaped the game.
  13. Wow thanks for the awesome feedback guys. It feels great when people applaud your hard work :D I'm just a bit disappointed that it's not really being talked about :P Anyway, there are 2 more parts planned, each dealing with other unique aspects from back then, so you won't see any rehashing! They're both fired up and ready to go as far as i'm concerned, now it only depends if there is a free spot available for part 2 next week :) Last but not least, I'd like to congratulate Racheya on her article. It is thought-provoking and a very entertaining read.
  14. Hey, could you perhaps help me with a historile article i am writing? Could i somehow contact you with questions or can we somehow talk?

I would highly appreciate it. My MSN is [email protected], add me if you have one, it would be alot easier to talk about certain issues there.

    Kind regards

  16. Hey, i sent you a pm a few days ago and i would like to state again what i mentioned it - Could i ask you a few questions about Runescape Classic for the article i am writing? I would greatly appreciate your help, when you have time. Some pictures would also be fantastic (other than those on your website).

  17. Interesting articles. My congratulations to the writers, both of them :) I will only comment on the second article, and state that i do not believe skill capes are a major influence in the botting activity. That is mostly because of the increase in popularity of the game. The place where the articles strikes home, however, is that players have indeed 'alienated' themselves a bit because of these capes. The temptation is great, especially with the completionist cape and the new range of capes going from level 10 to 99. It is quite fun to have those capes, they look posh and what not, but the effort required to get them is not worth it, in my opinion, unless ofcourse you enjoy the journey it ensues.
  18. Thanks, clans themselves aren't really intended to be mentioned so much as the system of gameplay is, atleast not at the moment.
  19. Good day, I am in the process of attempting to write a history of Runescape. The problem is that i was not around then, hence i would appreciate any information and especially pictures from then. I am interested mostly in 2001, especially early 2001, although information from 2002 and 2003 is also welcome. If you know websites which offer these, feel free to link me to them, however i have visited quite a few. Please refrain from linking me to tip.it archives, as i have already used them. Most importantly, i am looking for someone who was playing in the first months of 2001 and whom i could possibly ask about uncertanties i have. I would prefer to chat privately and not on this thread, so if anyone is interested please contact me via private message on these forums. Thank you for your time!
  20. Well, good luck to those who apply. From an outsider's standpoint a suggestion of topics might not seem such a bad idea. These might spawn challenging topics for those who wish to tackle them, perhaps it would be something like brainstorming :D Ofcourse this is outside the scope of this thread.

    Private servers

Morally i couldn't care less if it's ripping off of Jagex's work for 10 years now, people rip off of others for free all the time, on a massive scale nowadays with pirating and have no remorse whatsoever, so why should i have for someone copying a game. On a note i didn't see anyone mention, trying to create a private server for any game can be decent training in trying to learn how the game works, on the coding side. To my mind i think it's why most people try it initially (those who actually host the servers) and then they get greedy and start to think of profits. A properly coded, well working private server, with all the features of the main game except that you could obtain the items you wanted instantly might have another positive thing: you don't grind anymore, you can just type and voila, you and your buddies are off to battle Armadyl or whichever boss you please in an instant, without the needless months/years of grinding (which thank god i got rid of since i don't play this game anymore). Ofcourse it also takes the fun in the sense that you are not actually risking anything, but if you have a solid group of friends with you, that's what matters to me, having fun. So in that sense you could simply go with friends and have a ball from time to time and skip the tedious grinding for the items.
  22. I don't have any comment....I guess this just left me dumbfounded, i submitted that article over 6 months ago i think and just a few minutes ago some friends showed me the link to it  I don't even actually remember writing it since it's been so long ago, it took me about 20 minutes to summon the courage to give it a read myself and then read the actual comments on it. Thank you for you generous comments, it astonished me to see such kind words
  23. Hello, i have made this video and am curious as to what those who are willing to view it think. The song 'You've been a friend to me" performed by Bryan Adams inspired me to make this video. After initially hearing it, i just felt an impulse to make it, but after about 6 days of work on it, i've had about enough of the song. Still, it's fairly good  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNVLrISJrjI
  24. I did try to make constructive comments about how i felt the article was. However i performed the big mistake of not reading it comprehensively, and you can bash me all you want for that. However, regardless of wheter its mistaken or not, it's an opinion i can give, hence the purpose of the thread we are posting on. I don't expect anyone to take my views on an article like they were the ultimate truth.Yes, I am below average because i don't write or read often but that doesn't mean i can't express an opinion, be it right or wrong, and i will correct it once i agree that it is out of place, as it was the situation now. I will get bashed by those who find out my mistakes for that, but that doesn't mean i won't carry on giving opinions to the utmost of my capabilities in terms of them being correct.
