A lot of people haven't really noticed the point that the Grand Exchange won't be the only place to sell items, nor indeed will it be made compulsory to trade there. It will definitely have some kind of an impact on merchants, although I personally find the scaremongering of some of the merchants on here a little excessive. It may be that the popular items for merchanting will decrease in value as there is more on the general market, but at the same time this won't apply to EVERY item... Perhaps merchants should be more willing to be flexible after this update, having found out what items don't get sold very often in the exchange. It might not be much but i'm sure world 2 won't be deserted just for the sake of the exchange. Personally I think the exchange will be great - i've always been a shocking and impatient merchant, preferring instead to post on forums and wait for responses whilst doing other things. Hopefully the exchange will simply bring the market forums into being part of the game, rather than dramatically altering bank sales. I don't think it will be very long before the better merchants find a way to exploit the exchange, either by fixing prices or some other means. I don't have a problem with that. Any merchant who isn't breaking the rules/acting in an immoral fashion is fine in my eyes. Maybe the exchange will break the back of the dishonest minority who have earnt merchanting such a bad name... Who knows?! It won't be perfect, but I doubt it'll be a failure. And Jagex wouldn't have designed it to destroy merching etc, as they are well enough informed to know that merching is a popular money-making tactic. Let's just sit tight and see what comes out of it. If it's shocking, nobody will use it!

Tip.It Times Presents: Letters to the Editor #6
sambo1660 replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
Hallelujah! 2 authors writing articulately and succinctly to make clearly well thought out comments on the game! Maybe the average age and maturity of Runescape's players has slipped (as i believe it has) but how can the actions of individual humans be attributed to a completely unknown editor of a freely accessed website?! Miniclip has had some hilarious AND terrible games in its time, but the editor rarely, if ever, has any contact at all with his/her clients and thus cannot be held responsible for an influx of players to the RS community that old-timers don't appreciate. Maybe the immaturity and dishonesty of the new players has something to do with the people responsible for giving them their values and views on life, such as parents or whatever... That may not be a popular view, but i find it fairly ridiculous to blame either jagex or miniclip for the way their players behave... -
Weekly Poll: What would you do if a friend gave you a phat?
sambo1660 replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
What about merchanting phats?! I've heard you can make 10m a time if you merchant well... I'd do that! Then if my friend ever returned to RS, i could buy him/her a new one anyway! -

More F2P Bank Space! [BANKSPACE ACHIEVED!]
sambo1660 replied to Prankster_King's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
It's a great idea, and long overdue, but being cynical about it, i can't see that it'll happen. A quick tip that members might find useful to take note of just before their membership runs out (for those that have ended members to find they can't do anything at all on f2p without losing a substantial amount of items, potentially of great value). MAKE THE MOST OF THE EXTRA BANK SPACE WHILE YOU CAN. It's possible to put "slot-savers" for almost every f2p item into a p2p bank. If your bank exceeds the total f2p allowance, but the item is already there, you can still bank basically as normal. So the best idea for those struggling after membership is to remember to put space-savers for every conceivable f2p item in your bank, in readiness for afterwards. It's still a bummer for random event clothes like lederhosen and camo, but better than nought. On another note, I do support the idea for more f2p bank space, 12 slots would make a vast difference without disadvantaging any members at all. I don't think this is because Jagex "owes" f2p as such, it just makes more sense, and would make it more enjoyable for those who don't want to spend money on membership (like myself) yet still like to play the game. At its most basic level of analysis, members are simply glorified free players. They pay a little subscription to gain some crucial differences, but essentially all players are similar, at the very least we all start as f2p, so feeding the f2p worlds with a few updates would potentially gain a larger number of paying players. Since essentially all players are "consumers", it seems rather blinkered to stop all updates just because f2p don't pay a defined amount (ie disregarding lucrative advertising profits both from sales through the ads, but also the contracts for the ads on the webpage)... I know plenty of lvl 100+ players who've never been members who i'm sure would agree with that. Another point to make is this: f2p updates are available for members as well, so it doesn't constitute a loss of revenue - good f2p updates please EVERYONE. P2P updates, however good, can only please members. Simple numbers game = F2P updates = more people happy to play the game. Also, if F2P got some updates, it might work in Jagex's favour as more people would continue to play F2P before thinking "Let's get members" instead of just quitting, as many do. Bank space is cheap and easy to do, and would make a HUGE difference to existing players. So basically, it does make sense, but being an eternal cynic, i don't think any of this is going to make the slightest bit of difference, especially as Jagex refuse to officially acknowledge any sites but their own in the development of Runescape. As great as Tip.it is, do Jagex really care? I think not. Until all f2p players revolt by not playing completely, they'll carry on making their millions with complete disregard for f2p. -

Tinderboxes! I remember dying as a newb, and lost all my tutorial island stuff! Because it was before the skill guides were introduced around Runescape, i gave up and started a new character! After that i made sure EVERY time i saw a tinderbox i picked it up! I'm now lvl 95 and still have about 50 in my bank! Awesome piece of kit! -
Now there you have sense... Firstly, I'd have to agree with everything said in the quote above, but secondly here are a few thoughts on the idea of "honour codes" in the Wilderness. 1) There are a couple of times when Flammacor mentions the single aim of Runescape being to provide enjoyment. Whilst there are some basic rules that are enforced by Jagex with respect to certain "illegal" practises, it is worth noting that there are no Jagex specified rules regarding the Wilderness. The problem with the majority of reports on Wilderness gameplay etc is that they simply ignore the obvious fact that people enjoy the way they play it. If YOU don't, the problem lies with the way you are playing, not the way someone else is. Get over it. If you personally don't like being beaten because someone did something unexpected, like prayers or eating food, learn from it and don't be caught out next time. They are enjoying what they do (which Flammacor rightly explains to be the whole point of Runescape), therefore fulfilling the only aim of the game. Just because YOU don't enjoy the way THEY play doesn't make it wrong. By the same token, people who are "pure skillers" aren't doing anything "wrong" when beating you to resources, they're simply enjoying the game the way they want to and Jagex allows them to. Admittedly somewhat different from wilderness situations, but a similar extension of Flammacor's idea. 2) This is purely about Flammacor's article, but perhaps worth noting for anyone in particular support of this idea: since when did anyone play Runescape because it was like real life? Drawing parallels with planet Earth is perhaps a little far-fetched for a simple study of Wilderness habits. Runescape death involves losing some virtual money (unless you were fool enough to buy that virtual money with your own real money), a swift trip to Lumbridge and quite likely a fair bit of cursing at your misfortune. On Earth, whatever your views on what happens after death, you lose EVERYTHING from the life you just lost. A fairly substantial reason for the differences between virtual and real life, surely? That said, if you want to extend Earth into Runescape, particularly in the Wild, here's an important point to remember. Humans are less resilient to sword slashes and arrow shots than our Runescape "avatars", hence in warfare tactics have become so important. Generals and military leaders will always seek to minimise casualties and reduce the risks to themselves and the men following them. People using prayers and food or teleports aren't doing anything different in trying to save their own life, it is simply Runescape's manifestation of it. Indeed, almost any human situation can be used to illustrate the point - people do not enter hazardous situations unprepared unless they are thoroughly stupid or caught by surprise. Boxers train for years to deal with the physical punishment they receive, pilots learn escape manouevres and drills in case of disaster. Runescape players taking food and prayers to the Wild are only doing the same thing - going prepared. If you choose not to and are bested by such players, get over your bitterness and learn to deal with it. Of course if you don't think much of the Planet Earth parallels, like me, then you can pretty much ignore all that, although the last few lines are worth noting for anyone. 3) If you go into the Wilderness, you must expect to die at some point. If that is because you didn't prepare, that's your loss. If you did prepare and still got killed, take a clan next time or train until you can avoid the humiliation. Personally, I've never been past level 3 Wilderness, and then only to duel a friend on f2p worlds, but I enjoyed myself, so what's wrong with that?! If you haven't already guessed, my view on the Wild is that anything "legal" goes, so if you see me in the Wilderness, don't expect me to go without prayers and food just because you want me to. I suspect a lot of that was a little rambling in nature, but it might've been interesting to someone out there! Enjoy.
