  1. I read on the high-level forum it's full of adaware so I'm not going to bother.

    Quote from AMorganis

I recently decided to test the new RuneScape Gamebar. I'm using Safari on OS X 10.6.4.

For one, it repeatedly crashed the browser. Totally unusable.

I did some digging and it appears that Jagex is using a toolbar-builder website known as Ourtoolbar.com. Why Jagex - with all of its coders - couldn't create their own browser plug-in is beyond me.

This site pays Jagex for every toolbar downloaded and installed. The catch? Ourtoolbar.com is a spyware application that logs personally identifiable information.

Jagex should stop its endorsement of this toolbar immediately and design one themselves, from the ground up, without supporting a company that utilizes adware.

Well, shucks. I really liked this tool bar, but I guess I’ll probably uninstall it now. Could someone make one that isn’t full of trash? Or I’m pretty handy, direct me toward a resource that might help me make one? I was actually thinking about instead of having it as a tool bar, just make a webpage I could load that would fetch the info in the set up I wanted, that I could store locally and would fetch the info from Jagex. Well, I’ll look into it more latter. Thanks for the heads up.

I dont think we need to panic about these privacy hoax. It is a spyware maybe, but it does not have adware, malware or trojan behaviours.

The word "spyware" is a bit vague. In theory your internet browser is a spyware as it logs your internet behaviour (cookies) and let a third party (website owner).

This is not that kind of spyware that logs your password and send you popups from nowhere.

Yes, they do have your personal information in it. Thats your runescape account information that jagex give them, so that the ge and dnd watch can work.

Maybe they also logs what search or other website you have gone, but thats what everyone who write toolbars are doing. Google wrote their own tool bar and they are sending personal data back to their server by default, thats how their search engine works anyway.

http://www.conduit.com/privacy/WebsitePrivacy.aspx "Any information we collect is collected for the primary purpose of enabling us to provide and enhance the Services offered to our users. We do not sell or rent PII to third parties." their words.

I personally think this is jagex's new strategy to deploy ads, but i dont think there is a need to avoid using this tool bar. Unless of cause, the toolbar start to cause annoyance and become what we called "malware".

  2. Influence, respect and recognition, these are things that we may want and make us happy as well.

The long paragraphs are going to prove the same thing as well. Its going to be boring and reduce your happiness by reading on, so skip the stuff below if you dont want to suffer.

I guess some of our comrades found out they cannot brag proudly a 99 achievement from an mmorpg with their parents and maybe some of their friends and colleges.

Thats maybe why some of us are start frustrating that investing time and effort in runescape is meaningless.

I start this game since 2001 (psst... have a look at my advanture log, I got a bunny ear!), but all of my old comrades except one have move on to other games or activities that give them more satisfaction.

Gaining an achievement here wont be known to my real life partners except for one single friend, but at least there is still the HYT chat and there is someone who I can still find recognition and happiness by leveling and doing stuff in RS.

If you think about it, what does real life achievements really mean to you?

There are people, in fact a large percentage of any given civilised nation, who doesnt have a decent job. But they still manage to have a husband/wife, children and can afford internet access, if thats what they'd care for.

If what you have now can provide everything you need, what does buying luxuries can give you?

Why do you want more money if you already can afford what you need? Because you just want more?

At the end, it all comes to recognition by others.

Respect, people feel happy when they got it from others. They doesnt differ whether you got it in real world or in virtual world.

I guess some of our rs quitters are just starting their career or have a desire for boyfriend/girlfriend by our primal desire.

But after you have settled down, come think about how long will your next promotion or achievement can give you happiness for and how much effort and misery do you need to pay for to achieve that?

Not trying to say lets go back basement dwelling, but just judge and do what could provide the most utility to us.

  3. I never knew that Sony invested in Jagex back in 2005

That's because the article is incorrect and Sony never invested in 2005, they nearly invested. In the end it was Insight Venture Partners who invested in October 2005.

The article is just misleading but not incorrect, "Was willing" doesnt mean they have done it.

  4. I am using my real name anyway, 9 years ago I was not even 13 when this account was created.

However, the name itself doesnt really mean anything to strangers unless you know me in person or I have become rich and famous.

Oh well, we can find out someone's real name anyway if we know one's email and some of one's friends have betrayed him by using facebook.

In the internet, facebook searches YOU!

For wow, you dont really need to send your copy of your ID for recovery, unless it is something else you are after, all they ask for is recalling whatever you type for ID and name.

  5. the economy is already curupt by merchanters and its time jagex fixes its mistakes starting with the rock climbing boots then next will probably be the whip

Market only fails when nobody bother to trade, which isnt the case now.

It is the people who are corrupted. Merchant clan doesnt work without followers.

Btw, i dont think they need to do this to fix whip, all they need to do is increase/decrease the drop rate.

  6. Requesting some help from you wow people in here

How much GB is the whole game? my friends want to play it on a lan party (sending me an invite)

If you are short of disk space

    \World of Warcraft\Updates

    \Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft

are both old update files and can be deleted safely

    Stuff under

    World of Warcraft\Data\your languge\Interface\Cinematics

can also be deleted to save 5xxmb, but you wont be able to see cutscreens anymore

  7. Somehow we talk about wow in Lady heinous's HYT chat.

Start playing wow after my old tutor introduce me to it, however all of my real life mate have quit wow by now.

Never been a hardcore and start playing alot less after a serious argument broke out due to failing and low morale.

Mainly serve as a memory hungry chat room now but I do do some socialising runs with old friends sometimes. But no more serious goal to pursue for wow.

Anyway, here is my major character

    Armory link

Scroll down, click "English" in "select a languge" ;)

  8. Forget about fairness, asking jagex for fairness is like asking them to drop new rares in next Chrismas.

(Speaking of rares, I play this game since 01 but didnt get a chance for a rare because I dont have a pc at home and I can only access runescape during computer lessons. When my neighbour finally got a pc, they start dropping bunny ears... unfair :( )

There is some a difference between pure essence and rock climbing boots. Pure essence didnt introduce more gp into the market. Boots however has the potential of adding 45k per boots into the market, if everyone decides to alchemise it.

This of cause didnt happen in reality. Alching the boot was ridiculously expensive except until now that the price has dropped near its alch price. Many chose to sell it to ge instead. Selling to GE and reused by someone else who doesnt want to pay for full itself doesnt generate gp.

However, there are someone who do foolishly alching the price despite a huge price difference, there are youtube videos and forum pictures about it (some are even our comrades in tipit...). This did generate more supply of gp into the market. It is unknown how many boots has been alched and how much gp has been generated... But as far as the GE goes, stuff did rise for a while. However this effect didnt last as long as the prenerf 26k or 76king. CTI is dropping back recently. This might be caused by more coin moving towards these boots, just like what someone has said before in this thread (think about prayer and herb update).

So whats the effect overall? Not much except for a quick rise and drop in price. No inflation or deflation, whatever you call it.

  9. Especially since the recent accuracy boosters (turmoil, extreme), the Godsword = worthless

    IMO

But those who can afford Godswords doesnt mean they all can afford 88+ herblore or 95+ Prayer.

Lets say from 70-95 prayer, that would need over 30k dragon bones with ecto, costing over 180mil coins, enough for 9 BGS/3 SGS/ 2 AGS.

Certainly not all of your average rs player can do that.

GS is still good for big bad monster with large hp pool and higher defence that are weak to slash/crush.

  10. I have noticed that the halberd spec is exceptionally good againts pest control portals. Or then I am just lucky.

And a very good aoe spinner sweeper too. Hally is the only melee spec that can do a lot of aoe damage, d2h cost too much special bar.

  11. The only thing that I like about the boot change is that rune and dragon boots will be rising in price. They're now much more worthwhile to use in PVP.

Should I make another comment about summoning or just sit here and laugh at this profound statement?

he was implying that because there's no longer a good welfare boot dragon and rune boots are now better to use in pvp..

I would say it would affect mith and addy boots more than it may affect rune or dragon unless you think risking 90k or 500k for a tiny bonus is a good pvp pratice.

  12. watt.png

    Uh, what?

You unlocked the song: pesT controL spelled backwards. :P

And I bet they didnt feel the need to make inventory items for her items, so they just added her armour, then equipped her with those adamant items. (In which, giving her the combat bonuses of the items she has on.)

Id almost bet money they do that for all npc's. Like Gargoyle's equipment interface having some kind of metal armor/weapon, but obviously not the same shown graphics.

Void knights need to spend points on training combat instead on buying fancy addy amour, but at least void knights are not pc products.

  13. Summer vacation.

Lets get to how would that affect us. So... what will happen to GE?

Will this bring us more supply of monster drops and materials or more demand for them?

By past experience, the usual trend is price going up at the start of summer, then fall slightly and crash when summer ends.

However, if you remember well, last year didnt quite follow that, the rs common market price (from rswiki) are keep going up from the start to end of summer.

Something to do with 76k and the herblore update i guess.

Let us review some big dates of our market last year:

    Oct 7 herb update

    Oct 26, anti-76king

    Dec15, onyx change and curses

  14.

Runes can be saved by a SOL and Brobes. Just like range has an accumulator. But bolts break/are left around too.

They are more expensive (ie: more risk) than the accumulator when you are talking about pking.

They dont tend to save more runes than an elemental staff either unless you treat the magic damage modifier as a value increase

(eg: +10% bonus of .an air surge is = a water surge, the extra runes used by water surge is therefore saved).

  15. Not sure what they are trying to achieve, but this doesnt seem to be related to dungeoneering.

I remember Mod mark in rsof said there isnt enough high level players for high level content when referring to high level quest a while ago. Then we got tears of guthix, penguins, circus and shattered heart after that.

However, this is quite the reverse of tears of guthix which gives exp to skills that are already high leveled (or to reward other high leveled players who are assisting you)...

  16. That puzzle... was... horrible...

It wasn't even that difficult, it just took so damn long. After I charged the center, I ran around for 30 minutes not knowing what to do. I figured out to stick a primed bar into the slot by the control room, but once inside, there was nothing I could do. Then I find out you need to raise the center again, so I have to do that again. Then I finally get my body bar, I run upstairs to smith my body body (lol body body), and it turns out I need two body bars. So I run out, mine some more coal, get another elemental bar, prime it, then I go into the control room to charge it, and... I have to do the puzzle again. So I do that, move around all the blocks, and then I notice that I put them in the wrong position, then I get them in the right position, then I raise the center again and FINALLY I'm done.

Now I want a body helmet and body shield. Guess what? I have to do that [bleep]ing sliding puzzle TWO MORE TIMES. It wouldn't be so bad if maybe you didn't have to run miles back and forth between the levers, but yes, they learned from their mistakes at the telekinetic theatre at the mage training arena, and made it even worse. Instead of traversing a simple, easily memorized maze, you have to complete a complex puzzle that takes a long time to preform even one move. Not to mention it's in a turn limit, and you have to repeat the same puzzle FIFTY [bleep]ING TIMES.

P.S. Quest cape emote sucks now. You look like a [wagon] floating into the air, but now we have particle effects added in! No explosions, just sparkles in this one.

Furthermore, you might have to make another or two mind bars for EW4!

  17. Jagex's version of Blizzcon.

I hate cosplay and this reaks of it.

I'd rather just play the game. :P

Aw, too bad I have my air ticket home booked or I will be staying here.

    ...

But hey, if TET is plotting something big there, I wont mind coming back early.

The bald people will be mindlessly swinging axes at trees, nothing else, not even responding to anything you do.

Someone shall be cosplaying a bot there! Maybe we can be GE spammers as well.

    Off topic:

Interesting poll this week, it seems that skilling and chatting is what most of us are doing most of the time but not killing and pking which RS is suppose to be a combat based MMORPG. Also in average, F2P are 1 year younger than P2Ps.
