2010/2011 Movies discussion
Havent seen much in cinema this year. Highlights were... 1. Invictus 2. Me & Orson Welles 3. the Expendables 4. My son, my son, what have ye done? 5. Piranha 3D 6. Amer 7. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 8. the ghost writer 9. La Danse 10. She's out of my league Redhaloguy: Avoid Somewhere...it's the most pretentious and empy piece of junk I've seen the past years. From the first shot it's obvious that it hasn't got anything new to say. It's ugly and boring.

Ah, alright. That's one of the few from the book of angels series I haven't heard. To TS: if you want to try something more 'easy' from Zorn, go for The Dreamers or Alhambra Love Songs...If you're into the more challenging work you could try some work from Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra.

Yes. If you're looking for lots of saxophone, something really interesting, different and kinda crazy - John Zorn. His Bar Kokhbah and Masada stuff doesn't have much saxophone [any at all if I remember..], but I like that. The original Masada group has sax, Electric Masada as well.

Justin Bieber
Just wanted to share that I don't have an opinion on Justin Bieber. And Steely Dan are great. But that's kind of OFF-TOPIC!(!)!! I wonder when Justin Bieber is going to do his first Steely Dan cover. He'd be amazing for Deacon Blues. Or. Ricky don't lose that number. Uhu. Maybe they could do something together. I'd pay good MONEY to see these two people on the same stage.

Das, your tackle failed. You've said things, but nothing usefull. It doesn't matter that this is as close to arthouse as some people will get (I don't even agree), it doesn't matter that it can't compete with the movies you mentioned, for the quality of this 'discussion' it doesn't matter that you've seen deeper movies, it doesn't matter if Avatar was better or worse and after that talk you say it's better than most '[cabbage]' that's pumped out, but I still don't see why. The movie isn't very impressive, visually. They make decent sets and have a understanding of how to use a computer, that's about as impressive as building a lego boat. The images don't show us anything about the story. And Nolan's action scenes are still horrible; stiff and fragmentated with no feeling for rhythm. The acting wasn't bad, but you wonder what's the use of it when all the other things are so average (especially the characters!) and don't form a 'whole' together. And the idea, well, it's not much new, and the thought of the construction of the plot still isn't impressive to me. It's lifeless, it's about as 'impressive' as solving a puzzle. Next to all that, you have to wonder: how do you rate a movie? It's not exact math where you pick three different points of the movie, give 'm a 6, 7 and 10 and take the average of that. When you watch a (good) movie every thing should fit together..to give an example: if you've got good acting and a bad characters, what's the point of the acting? Nothing, the actors do their best, but it doesn't make the characters more interesting.

I would give you a decent explanation into understanding the movies. Because if you don't think these movies are great, you probably do lack the intelligence to recognize their artistic value (let's not even talk about appreciate it). :) YGuy, I'll go into that later. I haven't got much time on hands at the moment.

Inception
Well, stupid, that might be a bit too much (a lot of people probably are, though). Let's keep it at that those people generally don't have much understanding of movies (note how movies comes from movement, something Nolan doesn't seem to be very comfortable with). I haven't seen much movies the last two/three months, but some highlights were "A Star is Born", "Basic Instinct", "Make way for tomorrow", "De Vierde Man" and "Le Mépris". Most people said that they liked this movie, but to be honest, I haven't seen or heard a single decent reason why I should like this movie. Let alone why this should be a "masterpiece".

If people enjoy the film surely that is a mark of success? The amount of people on this thread alone giving it praise indicates it is seen by many as good. Surely that's a mark of succes. But I never claimed that the movie wasn't succesful. But if you consider that the majority of the people have got [cabbage] for brains, you have to wonder if it's a mark of quality. Dude.
