  1. Indeed. "Passion governs, and she never governs wisely." (Benjamin Franklin, 02/05/1775)
  2. I think it can be condensed a lot. It was a pretentious read.
  3. No, Earth spins around a 23.439 degree axis perpendicular to the Earth-Sun plane, making a full rotation every 23 hours and 56 minutes. As a planet, Earth rotates around the Sun. And I'm pretty certain that from the start, everyone has to make a little money from skills, and then buy supplies outside of the wilderness for PKing... but PM me if your selling full rune inside the Bounty Hunter volcano. :P
  4. Foodfight13's was one of the best letters to the editor I've ever read. All of the others were quite good too.
  5. Who would want fame in any MMORPG? A llittle bit of time spent for RS to relax is universal... but taking mroe time to be famous is more a waste of time, unless if one can't do anything better. If you have the time to write an RS guide, instead write a letter to your public representative or do hospital volunteering to better your community. But if you seriously don't have anything better to do, there's no problem with expanding Tip.it.
  6. Armadyllo and the Times team, you guys are the best. Its a shame that those upstarts like Sal and Zybez are above tip.it on Google. Yeah, like above me said, great article on such a short a notice. You guys must be great writers in real life :D . True, real-world trading has become a problem (Chinese companies; shame on us Asians :( ) Well, on the bright side, I just got my Xbox 360 and Halo 3 as a birthday present... I hope I'll just forget about Jagex and Runescape so I won't be tempted to come back. But, I like this forum.
  7. Training range now. I was wondering if the distance from the target affects damage (if both are set just to "accurate") Thanks
  8. I've been playing RS for a long time, and if I could only give one word of advice, it would be: teacher. Ask your school's best English teacher to proofread your appeal letter. There's nothing more important than the language in a letter except for the content itself. Best of luck.
  9. Ahhhhhhhhh, attack of the roses......gaaaaaaaaaaahhh, I'm bleeding. A very vicious attack by a rose indeed. I like your post. Excellent argument. In fact, it was much more convincing that the editorial. Double post. Sorry.
  10. I don't think many people know the main cause of mass-autoing; the bots are mainly the result of poverty in Asia, where businesses recruit people to maintain bots or play RS intensively for money. I think there is a news article on this on the main site, but I haven't checked in a while. Then again, its quite inevitable, with poor people in Asia looking everywhere for jobs, however undignified the jobs might be. This is public ignorance. But with so many little kids playing on RS these days, that too is quite inevitable. My take on this article: This article implies the assumption that autoers just exist for gain, but unfortunately does not say why there are so many autoers. This is a nice and flowing article with great transitions between points. The author's tone is light and casual, fitting for one defending Jagex with a somewhat I-am-here-to-enlighten-you sort of air. On the other hand, it's really obvious that people don't really "hate" Jagex, you know. I'm pretty sure most kids would be more concerned with daily problems in school with their teachers and with their parents as to divert hate to a game. Surely a kid won't hate the maker of a game is they love the game so much to play it?
  11. Like Ginger_Warrior said before... this article is "pretty flawed"... yes, the argument has as many holes as swiss cheese has (metaphor). 1. Typing has largely replaced handwriting in the commercial and industrial world the last few decades. Enough said... 2. Skills with basic operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, exponetiating), even when done mentally, will not get you very far beyond high school algebra. Ivy League doesn't really accept many students who graduate below algebra and geometry... 3. All I have to say about the history section of the article is "LOL." I hope College Board doesn't replace World History AP with courses about scimitars and battle axes. 4. Yes, I suppose the people at Jagex have a lot of imagination... but the real world is a better source for imagination, as long as you have good eyesight. RS's graphics are... .... .... Edit: oops.. .
  12. Yes... Random events help a lot to track down bots.... I never heard of this news article. That's just CREEPY... little Asian kids (I'm of a Chinese descent) sitting at computers clicking on virtual trees and rocks just to get another cup of rice on the table... or another bottle of clean water... I feel so sorry for those little kids... and I really detest these "sweatshop" owners who make these kids do this - they're all going to be nearsighted by 10!!! Cataracts in their 15's! Maybe eye cancer by 20! Or some other horrible eye disorder, those kids deserve better... the chinese/korean or whatever government should prosecute the "sweatshops" for child labor....
  13. Wow... A clear and concise paragraph, especially, "...time and effort you knew were a waste in the beggining." I never thought about it that way. Double post, sorry.
  14. Oh I see. People play RS for happiness... well, what would make me much happier than toys and "expensive items to show off on runescape" put together would be a scholarship. Yeah, I'm like school, if anyone thinks that I'm a nerd now. Well, there are only a few million people that play RS regulerly... I'm sure the other 300 million people in the United States get a good amount of happiness without RS. well other than the fact that i don't understand the point of what you said: i never knew that 300 million people are supposed to do the exact same thing for entertainment #-o Don't worry, I kind of worded it a little ambiguously, but carefully read the paragraph and the point is very simple. I know it's hard, and I know that most people like to skim through stuff. Oh fine, if you don't want to read it, I'll tell you the meaning... It's very simple: The Unted States has a little more than 302 million people, and there are less than 2 million that regularly play every day. Let's assume that everyone plays RS in the U.S. At least 300 million people in the U.S. find some other form of entertainment besides RS, excluding other countries in the world. If you need me to repeat this or clarify anything, just tell me and I'll be glad to do so. so why don't you stop playing runescape and go write a scholarship winning essay, if already have, go get yourself a noble peace prize for all I care, what are you trying to tell me? why would you try to convince me that i should not play runescape, yet you go to grind away on your own account? hypocrite much? I swear, tipit is becoming dumber by the day, or maybe it's just me :-s I like RS a lot a long time ago, but I haven't played RS for more than a year now because I don't like video/computer games much any more. By the stand I am taking with RS, one should assume that I do not play RS anymore. However, a very negative and unfriendly person would quickly assume that the writer is a hypocrite, and therefore being a hypocrite, does the opposite of what he or she says he does (in this case, plays RS). I will answer your second question now: I don't assume that anyone on this forum plays RS, but I do assume that they are at least intersted in the game; this way, I can eliminate bias in my responses. I'm only writing to advise poeple not to spend a lot of time in RS. Let us all tone our posts down a little, and not be so aggressive.
  15. Taking two hours everyday during the summer to try to research and write a scholarship-winning essay for Siemens has much more benifit than two hours a day in RS getting some hat to show off... even if you don't win, you'll still be smarter and wiser than if you spent that time in RS. But then again, some people just like to have fun. So, let them have fun, and clear the way to success for yourself.
  16. Oh, Really?? I thought friends expressed sympathy relative to the amount of worth your friend would assess his own loss. If your friend treasures items in game, and you're my friend, you better be sympathetic if my account gets cleared and all my items get taken. Otherwise, I don't want you as a friend. Anyway, I could already see a major hole in your argument when you said you wouldn't give sympathy to people who suffer an ingame loss, but you would sympathize with a friend who lost something in the material world. You've basically already admitted you know your argument is wrong because of the special privilege given in your argument (I'd feel differently if it were "a friend", but a common person--I dont really care about any loss they have) You can't be very sympathetic if a person experiences an in game loss?? What if the person is your sister, or your friend, and it meant a lot to them? you would just say "eh" at their years of lost work? Yes, really. I think anyone, not just friends, deserve that sympathy for losses out-game. My dissent was not about "special privileges" given to people. Your post twists the whole argument by manipulating my real meaning with just one word. I have already answered why I would just say "eh" at "their years of lost 'work'" if it is "work" at all. The answer is elaborated in the whole of my dissent, and I advise you to read it, because I think it has been made clear. I think that it could be universally applied. I have never said that I hold friends and family in higher preference. Again, you are manipulating the general meaning of my post in a negative way. That is not the spirit of a positive argument; in fact, it encourages misunderstanding and premature assumptions. This paragraph is somewhat not so clear, but I get the gist (friend/close friend?). It would be great if you could clarify that. My second post up there should help enlighten any misunderstandings... I hope opposing viewpoints are welcome here̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ but my hope is disheartened after this altercation, Irool. 1st. You write so pretentiously that it just makes every sentence you write VERY awkward. (even though you probably think you have the most amazing vocabulary in the world, you use the word dissent around forty times--a word I expect to use once a year in a year when I overuse it) C+ for writing skills. 2nd. You didn't respond to ANYTHING i said. You only claim that I twisted what you wrote the whole time. 3rd. If ingame accomplishments can't be classified as work--Then I would like it very much if you would PM me your username and password asap. Put up or shut up please :) 4th. Altercation? Not once did I get personal prior to this post, I don't see how a response to your points classifies as an "altercation". Then again, you probably just don't know what the word means 5th. You seem fairly misguided in life. I doubt you have any real friends IF you wouldn't feel sympathetic toward them suffering a big loss in a game that is important to them. (but how could I know that? you didn't even respond to any of my points or examples) I know you already explained why you would say "eh" at years of lost work, I'm asking if you would do that to the face of your best friend or your sister?? How would you expect those people to react to the loss of YOUR years of time put into runescape? (assuming they thought it meant a lot to you--As most RS player's accounts mean to them, as you can see from all the responses) your thesaurus is probably almost worn out, respond if possible. Thanks for the runescape account in advance :) Well, if this discussion has gone to insults and accusations, I won't participate in this discussion any furthur. It should be made clear that I started this particular argument with my , and therefore I can end it. There is absolutely no point in continuing this any furthur because: 1. People should treat each other with respect on this forum, and I've given all my due respect to you. Clearly, you have not shown me any. In fact, your attitude from the biginnnig is just the opposite. I have not insulted you or made presumptions about you in any of my posts. You, on the other hand, slight my vocabulary, life, writing style. I bet that your posts are the only ones that are that rude in this thread. I've even PM'ed you to notify you of my response. 2. You claim that I didn't answer any of your first post. The answer is in my first post, if you read it. 3. You never mentioned the reason for my stand. You just assume that I'm a bad cold-hearted person who goes around laughing at other people's achievements. For the sake of this thread, I wish to end this crossfire of insults and accusations between us two. I just hope that your response to this doesn't have to make me suggest to you to read my actual dissent. All I want is for you to read and understand what my stand is and the reasons for it - nothing more. I didn't write up my dissent for someone to take the chance to sneer at the author. Again, all I want is for you to understand what my stand is and the reasons for it. EDIT: BTW, Happy Fourth of July.
  17. As I promised in my second post, anyone with questions has the right of reply for the sake of a positive argument. I am looking for constructive criticism. Unfortunately, manipulations like the following do appear. Oh, Really?? I thought friends expressed sympathy relative to the amount of worth your friend would assess his own loss. If your friend treasures items in game, and you're my friend, you better be sympathetic if my account gets cleared and all my items get taken. Otherwise, I don't want you as a friend. 18. That's a horrible thing to say. People have given much more than sitting in front of a computer, clicking on things (if that can count as work at all) towards "out-game" achievements! Where was the computer you are using manufactured? In a semi-conductor plant - through techniques refined by decades of research and experimentation. Through what method does your computer screen display this post? Why, through a cathod ray tube oscilloscope, invented by German phycisist Karl Braun in 1997 - after decades of research with semi-conductors at the University of Berlin. And why we conversing in German now? Why aren't our neigbores being persecuted for speaking out against the government? Because, thousand's gave the ultimate sacrifice to furthur the cause of freedom against the facist Hitler in World War II. Achievements made in-game cannot be compared to those made in the real world. I think I have not much more to say; I think I have thouroughly expressed my feelings. Well, you have the right of reply; I will answer any relevant questions... So, will you scrutinize or dismiss my dissent? I hope opposing viewpoints are welcome here̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ Edit: grammar mistakes fixed.
  19. I disagree. The time and energy spent into RS is wasted. One could be volunteering for the community, or participating in a sport instead of clicking on trees or rocks. Although it is true that items in RS represent time and energy, the work spent into the process of obtaining the item is still relative to the nature of the said items. There is nothing useful that a Santa hat or a party hat can do beyond impressing friends or other players, or furthering the owner's prospects in being more successful in the game. Therefore, the relative magnitude of the work put into RS items is much less than work done on something useful and progressive in half its time. I would not give much sympathy to people who express sadness over a lost item in RS. However, I would sympathize with anyones loss in the material world. So, will you scrutinize or dismiss my dissent? I hope opposing viewpoints are welcome here̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ
  20. Your tone sounds somewhat aggresive. More importantly, what makes your so controversial is the lack of presented evidence. No evidence = No case. Unless your word is God's, but that's for others to decide... In addition, it is a little on the selfish side to not reply to other people's comments, but just to read them for personal edification. Besides, how do we know you're actually reading them? I guess we'll just have to take your word for that.
  21. Where is the argument? We both agree that RE's are not 100% random.... I too busy to read all of the posts, so if any has any concerns, please point out the precise post.
  22. I never said that I did not "read the rest" of anything. If you are talking about your post, rest assure I have read all of it. One person alone cannot determine if a set of evidence is proof. Like lawsuits or criminal cases, a jury, or a set of objective outsiders must determine that. In addition, please be polite on these forums. When I posted my expo, I just felt like sharing a theory, not looking for a verbal fight.
