America needs to switch to the metric system, etc...
pianofrieak2 replied to Viktorkrum77's topic in Off-Topic
Kelvins is great if you're dealing with temperatures that low, but the numbering system is REALLY high if you're talking about the normal temperature outside. And Tigra, I laughed at your viewpoint. I agree somewhat... -
Easy one. Man was originally created to live forever in Eden. When Adam dies, the Bible says he had lived almost 1000 years (forgot the number, like 965?) AFTER leaving the Garden. The price for Adam's sin was mortality. Where do you get after leaving the garden? My bible says Adam lived a total of 930 years. It doesn't say anything about before or after doing anything. It's ok, logic. He doesn't know what he's talking about. His point on Adam's sin costing him mortal death is correct, for we all died spiritually on that die resulting in the possibility of mortal death, but everything else he said is wrong or, at the very least, unBiblical (of which I mean not being able to prove).

entertaining way to make your math teacher look stupid

Lol either ask vmser or accept a 0 on that assignment. -
I doubt you'll read this article, but since you remarked so much about carbon dating, I figured you should probably have the opportunity to at least hear the other side. In fact, to make it easier on you, I just posted it here instead of giving you the link!

Sorry Tigra. I guess you didn't understand where I was coming from. But anyway, it's alright. You can think whatever you want about me. But your comment made me laugh anyway, so whatever. :P First off, if you're going to comment on me, at least make it CORRECT. 1. God created the universe in 6 days. He rested the 7th day. 2. I never said that creatures looking similar in structure disproves evolution. I said that if natural selection is true, then we should have some totally wacked out animals that died because their mutations were wrong (i.e. eyes on the bottom of the foot instead of where it sees best). The fossil record cannot be used for support of evolution. Now you can try to argue my point, now that I've clarified it for you. 1. First off, we're coming at these things from completely opposite viewpoints. You assume certain things about God that are completely unscriptural which is completely different from me. I take Scripture to be true. 2. Secondly, you don't understand much about the Christian religion. Don't you find it hard to comment about something you don't understand very well? Now if you came at it from the angle of "here's what I understand...can someone fill in the gaps?" that'd be a much better position. Instead, you come at it ignorantly and then refute it. Let me fill you in here. A. Scripture believes in the Trinitarian view of God. This says that God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Spirit (The Holy Spirit) all collectively make up the being "GOD." Without one, there cannot be God. They are in perfect unity together. B. Jesus was not a pawn. Jesus obeyed His Father's will, so that humanity's sins can be covered and forgiven under their covenant. Jesus was fully God and fully man. If He was not man, He could not die. If He was not God, He could not redeem. It sounds strange, but it makes no sense otherwise. You just have to accept it at face-value. C. Jesus covered our sins for all eternity. God is, by nature, outside of time. I don't understand where you said that it's impossible for God to save us from our sins in the future. He's OUTSIDE of time. I read too far into religion? Well, I follow it. If you think that's "too devout" then that's fine, but don't go imposing your views on me. Besides, the Bible was not written by kings' scribes. I honestly don't know where you get all this false information...You're also wrong in saying it was written 2000 years ago. Jesus died 2000 years ago, but the Bible was written well before that. It prophesied his death. I'm not expert on the age of the Bible, but if I were to guess, I'd say it's around 8000 years old. Also, you're assuming that science contradicts the Bible. Evolution has already been debated as to its scientific nature. Now if you're going to trust whatever your 9th grade science teacher says as absolute fact, then that's fine but at least do some outside research and think for yourself. Don't start with the premise that God doesn't exist. Research both sides so that you at least know what you're talking about. I was amused by your view of hell. Although I will grant you that it is somewhat correct. Jesus said that the way to destruction is wide and the path to eternal life is small and few enter. That means that more people are going to hell than are going to heaven (just to clear things up). Also, why are you so insistent that what you define as "good" CAN'T go to hell? Even good people have committed a sin, and if they're sinful, they can't be in the presence of a pure God. I've said this so many times before, but let me say it again: God cannot be in the presence of sin. That's why Jesus died. *sigh* Now I'm not defending Christians. I'm defending Christianity and God's Word. You are correct in identifying many hypocritical Christian groups like that, but I could also tell you about some terrible atheists. You can't stereotype one religion based on a few people or organizations. My definition of good is dependent upon God's nature and His word. Not upon what the world defines as good. Perhaps it is YOU who are brainwashed by your own upbringing. You have very closed thinking (evolution since I highly doubt you've read any books stating the opposite viewpoint) and incorrect knowledge (regarding Christianity). I'm terribly sorry you feel that way about God. And when you say that "God" has never done anything for anyone, that's a very bold statement. What do you know about God or His works on the Earth. Just because you haven't seen a miracle doesn't mean they don't exist. Just because you haven't had a changed life because of Christ doesn't mean there are people who haven't (me). It seems to me that you're making very bold statements that one could only make IF he was omniscient. Christianity says that people have inherent value and the rights thereof. You do realize that Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot were staunch atheists. In fact, Hitler quoted Darwin as an excuse for his wide-spread eugenic programs that were responsible for killing 6 million people. God is the reason for EVERY war EVER fought? Try getting your facts straight. Now I'm not saying that all wars are because of money or power (i.e. Middle East), but don't be ridiculous in blaming religion for all of humanity's problems. If people actually followed Christianity, they wouldn't murder, rape, steal, lie, cheat, or try to get more power. Christianity recognizes the inherent evil within each of us which is proven by dictators. Name one dictator who did more good than a democracy. Christianity says to treat your neighbor as yourself. To forgive one another as you have been forgiven. To give grace and mercy but also to give justice. Once again, you don't know much about Christianity. The world is between 10-12,000 years old according to most Christian scholars. I want to bash my head in a wall when liberals say we should have sex ed in kindergarten and teach the kids that their lives matter nothing in the universe.

Because they teach evoltion as fact at alot of schools. And if it isn't true why should we be forced to learn it? Please try to stay on topic.. They teach it as science. That's what it is. You cannot teach religion in school because it is forbidden to force your views upon people. By teaching evolution, we are not teaching FACT, we are teaching science. If you don't like it, fail biology in protest. You are assuming that evolution is science. Besides, by teaching religion in school, you are not forcing your views. It's like saying teaching the Civil War never happened is forcing your views. You're just presenting the views. True, your bias will bleed through but that is irrelevant and cannot be stopped. And your comment of "if you don't like it, fail biology" is ridiculous. If you are an atheist taking a theology course as your required philosophy/theology course, then fail the course! That's rubbish. Thirdly, if evolution and the fossil record actually coincide, then how come we don't have all kinds of odd-shaped animals (i.e. the majority of them). Because of mutations, we should have eyes on feet and arms coming out of the head but we don't. We have some strange looking animals, but a few of them is HARDLY proof for evolution. Actually, the fossil record REFUTES evolution. Care to see Behe's argument for Irreducible Complexity?
-
Since most people here believe in evolution, I was wondering something. You know how we have natural selection and all that? Well, why haven't we found any beings with eyes on the bottom of their feet or legs coming out of their head? You know since it's supposed to be random, the fossil record should be showing the MAJORITY of fossils out there to be all screwed up instead of having about 3 that kinda-look-similar-but-not-really to two animals. I was just wondering about that. From what I know, the fossil record completely obliterates the evolutionary theory.

How many times has the Arab world targeted an Israeli military target? From what I understand, the terrorist organizations (Hezbollah, Iran and Syria who give their weapons to Hezbollah) always attack civilians. Bus bombs, bombs in crowded marketplaces, bombs in restaurants, etc. None of those are military targets. Don't even get me started on how Hezbollah actually cares about hindering the Israeli military. They just want to kill as many people as possible. Israel, on the other hand, attacks military outposts and factories. The main reason "innocents" get killed is because they were forced to be put in the line of fire so that Hezbollah can claim innocents died and make Israel look bad. Besides, you never even addressed the article I posted showing how Hezbollah controls the media over there. You have yet to show how Israel controls the media or twists it to their advantage.

Well, since you asked how relgion says we came to be, allow me to tell you what I think the Bible says. Jesus created a world in 6 literal 24-hour days (see logic-is-overrated's post on the Hebrew word "yom" and how it is used...it's just weird for me to see how you can be a Christian and still believe in evolution.) Now he created a utopia, but Adam sinned and ruined the whole perfect place for us. As a result, we are born sinful and inclined toward sin. Just look at any dictator who doesn't have to answer to someone: he's a terrible, harsh, cruel person. Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot, etc. Name a dictator who was a good person and you can prove me wrong! Now this viewpoint is strictly from the Christian perspective, so I can't answer for Muslims and Hindus, but it seems as though you're just wondering the Christian perspective because of your girlfriend. Why don't you go to talk to her pastor about your feelings? That would be good (I would think) to hear his perspective and maybe get some of your questions answered. If you'd like to talk about anything, just pm me. I'd love to try to help you in any way I can.

Kryptic, Israel was attacked first. Israel has BEEN attacked first by rockets and suicide bombers since the invention of Islam. It i useless to talk about how evil Israel is when you neglect to even look at the evidence FOR Israel. Hezbollah has repeatedly made statements saying they want to eliminate Israel off the map. That's their political platform for goodness' sakes. They are a terrorist organization. I don't care of they're official or were voted in or not, they are a terrorist organization whose sole platform is to wipe out an entire country. PLease don't get it twisted and think that Israel is in the wrong here. After all, I gave you proof for my side. If you can find some for me, I'd appreciate it.

Jon Stewart has the idea that will eventually take place. But it's already been tried and so far has failed. France decided to spearhead the efforts to put a 15,000 UN peacekeeping force in place to prevent Israel from fighting and Hezbollah from launching rockets. However, France pledged 200 (yes 200 not 2000 but 200) men and most of those were engineers. Can you get anymore worthless? Anyway, that's what's trying to happen, but no country is willing to put their men in that region quite yet. Maybe when the UN gets some power, they can actually do it. (which I'm also against btw)
-
Kryptic, I am pro-Israel because Hezbollah is a terrorist organization. They let jeeps come in, shoot missiles into Israel, and then retreat so Israel can't find them. And Israel may have thousands of people in jail (I doubt it but if you can find a source it'd be nice to prove me wrong), but how do you know they're NOT terrorists? Just because they weren't found with a gun doesn't mean that they aren't terrorists. A civilian, in that area of the world, could just be a terrorist without a gun. Besides, Israel has the smartest intelligence of any nation on the planet. I'd trust them over trusting anyone else based solely on that. Besides, Israel is all about survival at this point. They've ceded land, pulled out troops, halted invasions when they clearly were winning and could've taken over the entire Middle East (7 days war), and finally decided to build a wall so that the terrorists missiles couldn't come into the nation. Those two soldiers' kidnapping was a combination of "the straw that broke the camel's back" and the new prime minister showing his authority and no-nonsense approach. Don't give us this crap about how Israel is such a terrible nation and Hezbollah is a God-send. That's ridiculous and any sane person knows it. I may side with Not in not trusting the media, so I found this source. Tell me what you think. http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedc ... eedman.htm

Have you done that? When I did, it was kinda cool but he went really fast and kinda stressed my shoulder lol. The director said to grab his top fin, so as I was doing it, he just took off! Still, it's great for bragging rights!
-
It was voted on by politicians...I don't the people had much to do with it, but I'm not sure they would've gone against it since no one knew what to make of it at the time.

I'm very much against the European Union, the United Nations, and this new thing that Bush is trying to do (with Canada and Mexico) to form this new North America EU. Why? Well, most of you know how I hate big government. Big Brother inevitably occurs for your protection (I know it's for protection but I'd rather be less safe and be watched/controlled less too. You have to trade some things for others. For me, it's well worth the trade-off.) Plus, the bigger the government, the more corrupt it gets which means more people get abused and more tax money gets wasted in the bureaucracy. I'm with Not's view on this one. (As soon as he posts...if he does lol)

I'm against stereotyping people, for it's immature and often gives you false impressions of people. But you have to understand that BAD news gets publicity. And since most parents only listen to the news, they see a kid dressing weird and they think "hmm...their parents are probably abusive which is why they're so weird." Kids may think that too (I'm guilty of that, I'm afraid), but a lot of it is because they want to be different. They want to stand out. Even in a "bad" way, which is discouraging to me. Still, there are many out there who DO cut themselves to feel in control of something (I have friends that do and some that stopped). So don't think that all kids are being judged falsely, for it is true for many kids. About the comfortable clothing: I say do whatever you want, but be aware that stereotyping DOES occur, so you have to be held accountable to what you wear for stuff like that, even if it's not true. I may want to cuss really badly when something goes terribly wrong, but I have to restrain myself from doing what I want to in order to keep people from thinking things about me that aren't true and would hurt my witness. That's all I'm saying. :) -
Oddly enough, I was always amazed by crocodiles. Not alligators because they have rounded snouts and less-sharp teeth. Only the best for me! And then I had this crazy thing about crickets when I was really young, so I still like them although I can't say they're my favorite. Just thought to put that out there.

Well, you do remember what you were taught. Unfortunately, that's not exactly correct. 27 of the 56 had seminary degrees and even Benjamin Franklin, the least religious of them, wrote a letter asking Congress to open in prayer every morning before conducting business. That's a great quote. I agree with it 100% for many Christians. But you see, Christianity is all about Jesus. That's what I am: a Jesus follower. Islam is, as the article said, in a crossroad. On one hand are the radical Islamic fascists who are oftentimes the leaders and imams who control their (usually illiterate) people through fear. It often has to do with power, but the Koran does say to kill the infidels. The ones who CAN read are oftentimes the males who actually read the original version in aramaic. Not the politically correct Koran that's in English (that would get sued out of existence if they put that in there).

You mean like, those moments where you can "feel the magic"? Like a gorgeous sunset or something? Zammo! Definately this, amongst others. Oh oh, I'm catching on. A first kiss - the electricity in the air feeling! lets not get too cheesy..... He's right though, it's probably one of the best moments in my life. Another 'magical' experience is seeing a fantastic movie or being on an amazing concert. Well, to me it is anyway. A month ago I was standing in the front lines of a Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós gig, it was 1 a.m., I had been looking forward to it the entire day, or rather many weeks, so my expectations were high. But I was blown away, I've been to many concerts, probably around 50, if not more, but this one was.. almost spiritual. It was sooo great, as if I was on drugs, but I didn't even have more than 3 beers. I got carried away on the lovely Icelandic tunes and woke up the next morning. Man, I love Sigur Ros! Great choice, Oy.

You sure about that? When persecution happens in the Christian Church, population in the Christian Church grows. Pm me sometime and I can give you a better idea on how this happens. Lets just say its a dominoe effect. For every one that falls another one is there, or in alot of cases, there is more than one. No kidding! Why do you think Christianity is going to grow so much in the end times? Why it's because we're persecuted so much and people get to see us LIVING out our faith as the way it was meant to be, not hiding behind church facades and happy faces when it suits us like much of Christianity today. dictionary.com says that brainwashing is "indoctrinating forcibly." Now, over in the Middle Eastern Arab nations, the kids are forcibly told to be muslim or become outcasts. In fact, if one becomes a Christian, the entire family disowns them. A post earlier was made on this very subject concerning the muslim religion (they killed their daughter I think? Anyway, just do a search on it). Now, the American founding fathers were Christian and, seeing the persecution and terrible way the "Christian" church in Great Britain was becoming, they decided to make it so NO religion would be mandated or required. Now I'm all for Christian parents or muslim parents or Hindu parents teaching their kids their belief system. After all, the parents believe it for a reason (hopefully something other than tradition but that's not always the case). I'm for freedom like that because I don't like the government having so much power. However, to forcibly tell someone to die or to follow their religion is wrong. Once you declare a religion, go all out. If you're muslim, go kill the infidels. (Well, I don't really want you to do that, but at least go all-out for your religion, ok?). If you're Christian, live your life sold out for Jesus Christ. The WORST thing to do is to be apathetic or "lukewarm" as John in the book of revelation said. That's what I think.
-
So, you think that out of all of the stars (billions possibly trillions) and billions of planets we are the only life form out there? Wow...thats arrogant. It's arrogant to assume that there is when there's no positive proof out there. But that's just me. Besides, there are plenty of reasons why the Earth is so suited for life. I could go into the odds of how infinitesimal the chances are, but to be honest, no one cares. Anything can happen. And us arguing back and forth about statistics is quite useless. Besides, it doesn't really matter. If there are, we should all just play Angels and Airwaves really loudly to make them like us and not blow us out of oblivion.
-
So you think the suicide-bombing terrorists are right in killing themselves for their religion? Well, that's an interesting question. I respect them for doing what their religion tells them to do. I respect them for laying their lives down for a cause beyond themselves. However, I'm not a muslim; I'm a Christian. Unfortunately, they were radical for the wrong cause. They were brainwashed, pure and simple. I think killing others is wrong, so they committed terrible sins. But you have to remember that they are simply following their religion, so they were brainwashed into doing that and thinking they'd receive 40 virgins in heaven.
-
I don't think they exist. Any proof of them is probably military testing that got spotted by civilians. That's what I think. It's so secretive because the military has to keep it hidden from other nations from realizing what we have.
