Depends on what you mean with high level. Being high Combat level player: Yes! It's awsome. I just recently got 100+ Combat before that I had been combat level 76 or lower for almost 7 Years. Having high skill levels: Not so fun but the journey was fun and at 90+ it just gets really boring because after that there is just one goal, to get 99. So, both yes and no.

If we didn't have Cooking/Fletching/Firemaking then Mining/RC/Slayer etc wouldn't be so much different from any other skill, they wouldn't be special.
