SoF Feedback Response
And today's young, happy players will be tomorrow's bitter "veterans". The game's not dying, it's just shifting away from us, and we seem hell-bent on taking the community with us when we leave. I'm actually a bit curious about whether or not our unrealistically cynical discussions and uncontrolled elitism isn't turning new blood away from the site, when we're not actively chasing them away. I hate to be 'that guy' that defends Jagex (inb4 "traitor!"), but I'm just starting to think the community deserves what it's been getting. We're very similar to all of those guys that pirate games and wonder why the new ones have crippling DRM, down to the assertion that we're not to blame for any of it. We even use many of the same arguments. :wall: Life is complicated. I'd argue that it simply reveals that despite how addicting they can be, people don't really like grinding in games. Who actually enjoys the process of grinding most skills or grinding for gold? Virtually no one. So people look for an easier way. Ultimately there is. Imho, the heart of the issue is that grindy games are a flawed system - players want to look for a way to get around the grinding but are told it's against the rules. What would have happened if Jagex response to the SoF was that they were abandoning their "pay to get ahead is wrong" policy in favor of "players don't like grinding and will pay to get around it so we may as well make money off it instead of bot sellers"? How would the community of responded then? At least half the issue here is how ignorant and stupid and dishonest Jagex is being in response to this. 90% of members do NOT enjoy the SoF. It isn't a fun piece of content, its a rewarding piece of content and it's pseudo-gambling. At least I can understand why they deny that it's gambling - they can't say "it's not technically gambling so it's legal" while admitting that it's pretty much gambling. However, it is essentially RWT for exp. [spoiler=An aside]As an aside, in regards to pirating and such, I could bring up things like kickstarter, how the traditional model for, well, media is changing from big corporations ruling it, to more say indie games, different methods of distributing media...a good way is to offer people some music (or product) and then say, hey, if you want more I need money. People would pay if they like the product. Also remember that one of the reasons people justify pirating is that people at the head of corporations are so obscenely rich that people pirating from them won't "hurt" their income. If they make several million a year, and suddenly make 15% less due to pirating, they're still making several million a year. Works different for small indie game developers or small indie bands or even writers and stuff. Also, with the help of google come up with a number of games that you can tell just by the title and cover that they were made to try and cash in on the success of something as opposed to try make an actual good game. This aside was longer then I intended. Not that coherent, but it was meant to be a brief aside. Basically, life is complicated. And ultimately, changing mass human behavior is kinda difficult. The internet is still semi-new. It's certainly older then a lot of business models... The internet is new enough that there's no one tried and true business model for it. Traditional business models fail with it tho. This could easily make it's own topic. And this is a response to one sentence >_<

I'm down for bossing as long as I'm actually online at the time. I can probably preform adequately at most bosses, exceptions being Nex and maybe DKS. DKS I'd just need a bit of guidance. Also, since I got back into playing the past few days, almost got the hard mortania diary done. Just need to burn all my corpses.

SoF Feedback Response
Where's the incorrect grammar and spelling? I agree that the statistics are meaningless (90% of members might use it, but that's because it's hard NOT to) but that doesn't mean 90% of members like it.

Thank you for this. I agree with it 100%. Probably referring to active accounts. ANY F2P statistic would be completely useless if you ignored inactive accounts.

I don't have as much FPS as I'd like, but at least the game is playable now. Oh hai SoF.

... So, this is a tad embarrassing. As best as I can tell, a while ago Jagex did some membership deal where you pay for 6 months and get an extra month. Or loyalty points. Or something. And, as best as I can tell, I paid for that deal. Which means that although I quit several months ago, I still have membership O_O

So, apparently there's an FPX fix. I gotta check this out, since one of the main reasons I quit was the FPS issues. Problem is, I'd be coming back into the game after the whole SoF thing. Don't really wanna support Jagex after that. Also, the RC update looks amazing. RC is actually decently trainable now. AFK-ish if you want or you can put in more effort for more exp. RC has long needed a fix. ... Assuming my understanding of the RC update is correct.

Tbh, instead of SoF, they should sell graphic options. Buy Retro graphics. Would really let us customize armor :o I'm fully supportive of Jagex selling cosmetic stuff. Stupid SoF... Man, if I got back to RS I'd be so confused by the new item looks! One thing that graphic updates seem to not understand is newer is not better. A lot of the time, instead of just updating it graphically so it looks more modern, they change the look. Often in a way that's less cool then before.

Yeah, I dislike it as well. I've tried watching it again, but I couldn't sit through 2 1/2 hours of bland characters. It was only legendary because 1) Sorta kicked off the 3D thing for real and 2) 2 1/2 hours of scenery porn. Otherwise, the characters and story were terrible and it didn't help the behavior of the military actually got me angry at some times. As for story, it was basically Pocahontas gone Sci-Fi. I completely agree. My whole family kept telling how it was amazing. I tried explaining to them that the story has been told plenty of times before, it's nothing new. I enjoyed the movie... As for the story... It's not a bad story either, just unoriginal. I honestly don't know how much I'd enjoy the movie without the scenery porn. Also, I can't really remember Pocahontas and I saw the movie a couple years ago. One problem with Hollywood is that so much money gets spent on special effects, so Hollywood usually tries to be conservative when they make movies because they don't want a flop. Honestly though, I don't think the money thrown at special effects is nearly as needed (at least in some movies.) I'm pretty sure the original Star Wars, for example, didn't have an expensive budget at the time, yet still came up with special effects that are still good by modern standards. They've gone over them with more expensive special effects in modern times, but that's only just icing. Blarg. Not really sure where I'm going with this. Maybe that with a groundbreaking movie, sorta, they want to go with a plot they know is good. Also, the behavior of the military IS supposed to piss you off. Also, there's still the question of what's stopping us(?) from just orbital striking them. ... Also, they could've come up with a better name for a rare expensive element then unobtanium.

mumble mumble something about everyone being weird, what is weird, mumble mumble... Honestly though, not feeling sad for the death of people you aren't close to or don't really know isn't weird. It seems normal that you'd feel more sad for your pets then relatives you hardly knew, or didn't even know at all. It's also normal to feel like it's wrong to feel that way lol, since objectively a pet's life should be worth less then a human's life. But the death of a pet affects your life more, since it played a bigger role in it.

No, LoK is a spinoff series. So far it hasn't included any ATLA references aside from this episode's flashback. And to think I watched all of ATLA in 3 days because of this show. Well, that and I always wanted to anyways. I can imagine disturbed mothers calling in and saying how inappropriate this episode was. Compared to ATLA's lighthearted feel, LoK has much more mature topics and it's far more political. Heh. ATLA might've had a more light-hearted feel to it, but just dig beneath the surface. Also, what's a good site to watch Legend of Korra on? I can't find it on TV. Even on channels I don't have. Even the freaking channel that claims to be the Nickelodeon channel. And the Nick site only has the first 3 episodes available to watch. I've managed to find it, but I haven't found a good site to watch it on. Or maybe I'm just picky.
