teaks - dropping on karamja inside the clean-up minigame fences where mahogany are also
edit: best for xp
Eucalyptus are best for balanced xp and gp though

Yeah, bottom line, meleeing slayer is faster than ranging it. I find that a good balance of the two is good and when you start using cannon on specific tasks (dagganoths and kalphites), your ranged will raise without much effort. I used to ranged about 15-20% of my tasks and got 99 ranged during my last 500k xp slayer. It evens out in the long run.
-
Absolutely agreed on that.
My scenario implied using weapons with the same stats which is hypothetical and pretty hard to confirm. Anyway, I'm an advocate of controlled training so this debate is pretty much over for me.

I think you got it wrong Kent...
Zierro was right, say you need 60k exp to level att, str and def.
Player A gets 60k xp in Att - gets a lvl (gets better xp rates)
Player B gets 20k in att, str and def - stays the same
Player A gets 60k in str - gets a lvl (gets better xp rates)
Player B gets 20k in att, str and def - still have not leveled
Player A gets 60k in def - gets a lvl at the same time Player B levels all 3
Player B gets 20k in att, str and def - levels all at the same time Player A gets def lvl.
So player A gets better rates xp during 120k xp so he should theorically get his def lvl before player B. That is with the assumption both player are using the same weapon giving the same bonus (which is pretty rare - D long on controlled uses stab attack which is lower than slash for example).
So you're saying that say, Defense and Strength levels are useless for high defense monsters? (Which usually hit accurately, so defense definetely helps, no?)I think he just meant that defence is not really required for monsters with low attack. The other way around was not mentionned as it would be very wrong.

Save them until level 52, and yes you do but it is MINUSCULE xp and is not worth doing
Just on a side note, terrorbird scroll are worth more than 10% of the pouch on the G.E. and easy to sell for the run energy they provide. Taking 5 more seconds for that miniuscule xp and better sale value is worth it IMO.

signing up..
Everytime there is a thread like this, you will see a smart mouth bring up "signing in...", "clicking the create new user"...etc..
If you regret that much playing RS, just quit and put your money where your mouth is.
OT: I regret having waited 6 months to really start slaying, I got 85 slayer when whips were 3,4 mil. If I hadn't been lazy, I would have gotten 85 when they were 6-7 mil.
-
Wouldn't that be an incentive to level that skill higher?
It's like saying Jagex shouldn't add more prayers because only high level prayer players would benefit and not everyone raise their prayer level that high...

One more monster on Duradel's payroll would suit me fine!
Who the hell is this duradel? It's lapalok now , keep upto date.
im 100% for new monster @ 95 :( bring it on
AHhhhh you ruined it for me!
OT : isn't it time we get a slayer Boss ? Requiring a team and a slayer lvl to kill? I would love a slayer-guild type place where you have different monster requiring a team and slayer lvl to take down. I.E. Master Abberant Specter (lvl 380), attacks mainly with magic but has both range and melee attacks to complete the triangle. Requires 55 slayer and nose peg or slayer helmet to kill. Drops full black mystic (boxed like G.E.), multiples herb seeds (toadflax through torstol), MYSTIC lava staff, D med instead of rune full helm, gems and half keys and drop herbs noted (ranarrs and up). Upon dying, spawns 10 normal aberrant specters (useful for training slayer).
Well this is just an idea, but more slayer monster could be turned into "boss" at a "slayer-guild".

I always bring a magpie as my first familiar on slayer task then terrorbird for invent space. Even though I don't walk much, it will gather gems and rings for around 5-10k while the pouch will have cost me 1,5k. This is pure profit as fighting in non multi, most familiars are useless. Don't ask me to use a bunyip, I don't need one with 99 def and SGS.

If you chose to wear bad armor over good armor, that's your choice. No one's gonna force you to wear what's considered to be standard armor. I wouldn't want you in my team at GWD though. Any other armor would make you have to heal less ( teammates wouldn't have to give you food to compensate) and that is a plus for any serious GWD team.
As for slayer, I'm a bit biased on this, I found barrows armor to be overkill at 99 def with SGS. Meaning I heal more than I get hit on most monsters, so I "downgraded" to bandos for added str (thus better xp rates) and less def (my SGS heals the added DMG I take and it's still close to overkill). I woulnd't mind trading 20-25 def for an added 3-4 str, att or pray bonus with the gear I use nowadays. It would be a different story if another master slayer were to be added with harder tasks.

talking economics, there is a cost : the price you could get if you sell.
Meh I might test it this week end just so I can stop being confused.

A french friend of mine has the name "jeuxpoche" which translate to "crappygame". Always funny to see him log in and remind me I'm addicted to a crappy game. no flaming please... I love this crappy game

Are nats more profitable than Deaths if you factor in the cost of the pouch?
Has anyone ever compared both xp and cash per hour?
I know deaths are better for both cash and xp using the abbys.
Just wondering how they compare when using the familiar teleport.

green dragons... bank bones and hides... sell on GE
massive profit.
-
dragon mediums... buy at min (59 720) and wait, wait ....wait.... wait....
I got 1,3k d meds this way. with nats around 230-240, you can make a whopping 40 gps per alch! I have the feeling that the G.E.'s floor prices of items are set so that High Alching items would not yield a bigger profit than marginal over the the cost of the nats.

your choices are to either get a 99 or ignore them. Change world of train somewhere else. What kind of answer are you looking for???
If you want us to say : go ahead ! flame him or anyone you don't like, use offensive language and get yourself ban!
That's not the best of option if you want my opinion. There are idiots all over the world, why would Runescape be any different?
Edit : Couldn't have said it any better than Bauke's last reply.

this was tested at 93 WC and 83 mining...
145k gp per hour at pure ess.
115k gp per hour at mage logs.
around 6k xp mining per hour at pure ess.
around 22-23k xp WC per hour at mage logs.
g luck

It's the best option in my opinion. Don't forget to spec DDS for added str xp. You'll get kills faster than scimmy, global xp faster too. You won't get 99 str faster, but if your ultimate goal is to max out melee, might as well do it with the more faster way.
-
It all boils down to what kind of training you are planning. If you plan on slaying, you will need to train defence, son controlled will be more efficient. If you plan on maxing out by only killing monsters with low att/str, then defence is un-needed or can stay low leveled. Using an inferior weapon to level str might be more efficient in this particular case. My way of training from 70 attack consisted mostly of controlled training with dds specials on STR. So I got my Str lvls faster and got my 99 melees pretty close to one another.
-
It's a game... Why would we put pressure on people to get skills cape? The point of this game is to have fun, not achieve anything... Let the players play their own game and start being concern only about your own. It's a role playing game... meaning you get to do what the hell you want, not some clique-regulated gameplay.
-
good luck, scimmy is overrated IMO.
-
Not to burst anyone,s bubble but the DDS will get you more xp per hour than the d long. That has been tested on dagganoths, a somewhat medium monster in terms of defence. As to the original question, you would need the xp rates of both weapons and an approximate time to complete the quest. Just do the math when you get those. I did my 99 str using the whip on controlled and using DDS spec to boost my str xp rates. Not the fastest way to get 99 str, but faster kills and faster drops.
I never knew a whip can give STR exp too... BTW, will a dds get me to 99str faster than a d long? i might just do that then....
Well whip on controlled...gives 1/3 the xp on str. DDs is around 10% faster than D long (44k xp per hour compared to 40k when I tested it like 2 years ago).
Am i doing it Wrong?

I tried the tanking method in the armadyl area. Got 850k during a 2h30 trip, meaning a 340k average per hour. I got around same KC and noted bars so I was in the average addy bars drop. This was done at 99 ranged and wearing near max ranged bonus (I was using wealth - not archer ring). I do believe you can get more cash per hour than 340k, but getting 400k per hour below 99 ranged consistantly is probably out of the question. Just my 2 cents or maybe I'm unlucky...like a lot of players.
