Dunno, I've never played Victoria to tell you the truth. That's just bizarre. And the idea of super powers only came about once the world got crazy industrialized. Russia, China, and America during this time period weren't even very big powers - USA is just newly independent and very small, China is horrendously behind in technology, and Russia is stagnant due to its antiquated government and technological progress. I was thinking of having a house rule that you can't take more than 5 provinces off a country in a single war. That way it'll stop the 'I'm France and defeated Austria-Hungary and so I annex it' silliness. This is true. I figured there would be a purchasing cost, and then a deployment cost that is 10% of the purchasing cost every time its used. So, a ship of the line would cost 600,000 to build, and cost you 60,000 each time you use it in an engagement. Keep in mind that communism was a byproduct of the industrial revolution, which hasn't actually happened yet. I was actually thinking of having a system where is was Base, Technology, and Tarriffs. Everyone starts with the same base budget, but depending on what percentage of your provinces are overseas, you get that % x your base budget. So, tarriffs would be hugely beneficial at the start (so GB would have a huge budget), but over time technology would overstrip it. Basically I just want to figure out a way that colonial powers can benefit from being colonial powers, yet not screw over continental powers. Aye, if you wanted you could be Sardinia-Piedmont, but your chances of survival are pretty slim there. ------------- And I think I'm going to assign the generals for the start, after that people can make them. This way we can have General Blücher marching his Prussians to go fight Marshal Davout hehe. Oh, and do we want a mechanic for the Holy Roman Empire? I think Austria-Hungary was the controller at this point. Maybe give whoever is Emperor a bonus to troop morale or something so its something desirable to become. And, do you guys want to have random events that'll come along? I figure they could be like...revolt pops up, technological advancement, gift of money, ships, or soldiers, subtraction of money, ships, or soldiers, or whatever. Just a little more spice. Then again, I know what happens when we overly complicate these Hegemony games.

Everything up until the point at which the game starts is entirely historically accurate. Everything after that will be shaped by whatever happens. And Christ snuff makes you sneeze like the devil.

I will proxy NPC countries occasionally to try and maintain a sort of balance of power. So if somebody starts zerging and conquering NPCs, then I'll have some country lead a defensive alliance so the next time they try and grab some easy land they find themselves at war with some coalition of NPC countries.
-
Depends if the USA is a player character or not. As an NPC its chances are very dubious.
-
Start date will be 1776, just at the start of the American Revolution. You can pick any country you want, not just the major powers. (Some tiny changes may be done for balancing such as giving Saxony to Prussia or whatever, but that's basically it) [and I'll write out a list of whose vassal is who, like wallachia and ragusa are ottoman vassals, and hannover is in a personal union ruled by the king of Greatbritain] I'll be back later, gonna go have a few beers

Austria-Hungary hasn't been taken. And I'm not sure whether we should start with equal budgets. It seems silly to me to have Prussia with the same budget as the globe-spanning Great Britain. Inequality usually makes for more fun.

Well, they'll sort of have to. If someone just says 'And when the battle starts I charge my infantry forward', they'd get cut to ribbons by volley fire from an undamaged enemy line. Or you could set them to research some sort of field, and every once in a while they'll make a breakthrough and you get some tech advancement. Hm, yeah that could work. Traits would be like...: Logistic Wizard Offensive Defensive Winter Specialist (countries like Russia and Sweden would get a lot of these, while others would get very few) Fortress Killer Specialist (better with skirmishers and special troops) and others Maybe. We'll see. I'm thinking of having revolts be a bit more frequent then in any other hegemony game, so that somebody can't just conquer the world with no problems at all. Why would I make a thread about an entirely different game to gloat about something unrelated? You have a very odd mind.
-
Don't worry, I will. And the game will start at I'm thinking somewhere between 1750-1780 (depends if we want the USA in the game or not). So anything that's been invented at that time is fair game (like rifled muskets), just keep in mind that the rifles they had there were accurate, but they were also slooooooooow as hell to load, so an army armed entirely with them would get ripped apart by regular muskets. Good for skirmishers though. Yes, and I'll try but it always ends up devolving into 'group everyone together and smash the enemy'. I'll probably put in attrition or something to counter it, idk.

There was an interest in a hegemony game set during the Napoleonic era, just wondering if anyone would be interested in playing it? Same style as Ye Olde and Arch's moderation of the first Hegemony. Main countries would be: Great Britain France Spain Austria-Hungary Ottoman Empire Prussia Russia Italy Sweden (or Scandinavia depending on balancing issues) Netherlands Poland Portugal ---- So yea, if you have any interest in playing, just post. This isn't the game thread though (I'll make a nice new polished one if it does start). Oh and it probably won't start until the end of July when I have all my courses finished, this is just for brainstorming or whatever.

I'm modding next one. -- And for Retech: Was quite fun; you did a great job :)
-
It was more of a '*sigh* this is what I get for trying to be reasonable with people' rather than a '*sigh* I don't wanna fight no moooooore!'
-
Yes. But now it's indisputable. -- The Holy Roman Empire has accepted peace with Spain, the ERE, and Kiev. Burgundy has accepted peace with Spain, the ERE, and Kiev.
-
Crete has accepted peace with Spain, the ERE, and Kiev. Terms:
-
*shrug* Maybe. I'm not exactly as maniacal as you seem to believe, Arch.
-
France has agreed to the terms offered by Spain. New map: I'll PM terms to the other countries when they are decided upon.
-
Like a giant coalition of nation states? Hm. -- Working out terms with Dungeonal and Doom atm.
-
Here is definitive most recent map:
-
I shall, but the last time I asked how something worked that had been used on me and I even had access to all I received in response was that 'it goes whooosh'. Helpful.
-
It's allowed self-governance, which keep in mind is a lot better than any other of the smaller countries that have just been unceremoniously gobbled up by the major powers, while enjoying the relative safety and security of knowing that if anyone tries to screw with them big bad Spain will come over and bash their skulls in. You're saying that instead of having that deal, they'll instead break their vassalage (ie. declare war on Spain), and try and make it as simply an 'ally' of some tiny little island over in the Atlantic that doesn't even really have an army - just a bunch of annoying horseman that ride around and burn stuff? You think they'd do that all for a pair of crummy islands made out of frost that nobody can do anything with? Ha! And Nex you did commit to the attack. You had your Hlapuri try and burn my ships, your spies contaminate my water supplies in Northern spain, and tried to make a revolt rise up against me.
-
The peasant mob was the counter to it. Cheap bodies to stop the things, that's why I used 'em (usually I just use peasants as a giant mob of reserves). Riiight. Somehow I don't believe that, given Hegemony's history of ludicrous technology powered by the most abstract and unrealistic propulsion methods. This is true. You know Bruges is my vassal state right?
-
I fail to see how such a device would work using medieval technology.
-
Have to confer with Doom and Dungeonal first. -- Oh and Retech what happened with Bruges' invasion of Northern France? I killed all your spies :shades:
-
Whoops nevermind Then you're being overly dramatic. Whatever. -- The terms (if I choose to offer them rather than just pummeling you buffoons into dust) will be harsh, but they won't be something that leaves everyone crippled for eternity.
-
I posted it in the chat to gloat hehe Oh quit being so bloody melodramatic.
