  1. There's a hardcoded limit to avoid getting stuck in an infinite loop in the code. There is a fix for this, will try and get it implemented.
  2. Do you have JavaScript enabled? That sounds like what would happen if you didn't. And what browser are you using?
  3. We'll probably keep it like that, what you're saying isn't quite true (from before). In phpBB, where that image linked would vary depending on the skin you had (older subsilver style or newer prosilver style). In IPB all of them link to the forum index by default so we'll probably just keep it like that. There's a Tip.It link right underneath it anyway.
  4. We will be looking at a Tip.It skin in the (hopefully near) future, yes.
  5. http://forum.tip.it/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_posts&mid=19747 We would have been different, RSC were on IPB 2.3.6, they upgraded to 3.0.3 while we were in the process of converting to it. It was a much easier process for them as upgrading is far simpler than converting, because it's still software from the same company.
  6. First off, as the title says, welcome to the new forums. There's lots of new features, as I'm sure you can see, first off I'd like to touch on a few of the "issues" that we do know about in advance, because it's likely you will come across them. The majority of old BBCode has been converted into what it should be, but some things are still slightly broken, it's possible you may have to edit an old post of yours and slightly edit the BBCode if it didn't come across properly, but as I said, the majority are fine. The main thing we've noticed that has broken are lists, but these are extremely quick to fix using find and replace in notepad. If you find any of your emoticons have been replaced by HTML in your posts, you should just be able to edit it and put the emoticon back in to fix it, if that doesn't work, please PM me and let me know exactly which emoticon is causing the issue and I'll look into it. The smilies don't look great on the black skin, we're working on it. :) The title bar of the emoticons panel on the black skin is a little broken, but doesn't impede functionality. A few (and I do only mean a few) topics have 2 or 3 posts duplicated (usually the first 2 or 3 in the topic), if you notice a topic with this, then please report the topic and write that in the reason box, but don't bother going looking for these topics, only let us know if you come across one, and a moderator can remove the duplicated posts. There's lots of improvements, and as I'm sure you'll agree, listing ALL of them is fairly pointless, so I'll list a few with some extra information (if necessary). Search Speed We're utilising an Open Source Fulltext search engine on the backend of the forum that should greatly increase the speed and accuracy of the forum search, you should be able to get results for terms as short as 3 characters in less than a second, but yeah, it can take longer so don't hold us to that. :) The Gallery You can upload your images to the new Gallery, it's split up into 4 categories as you can see by clicking Gallery at the top. Inside each of these categories you can create an "album" where you can upload your images. You are allowed a maximum of 5 albums and you can use these in any combination of categories you wish. All images require a moderator preview before you (and the public) will be able to view them. Once they're viewable users will be able to rate them and leave comments. You can manage your albums by clicking your name in the top right to get the drop down menu, and then clicking "My Gallery". Just because your images have to be approved first does not mean you should upload distasteful images. Initially each user has 50mb of quota for images, and bandwidth is also limited, but we will be looking to revise these limits once we get a better idea of usage. Blogs You can also create your own blog now as well. First you need to enable it, do this by clicking your name drop down in the top right, then clicking My Settings. Once there, click the "Blogs" tab to activate your blog. The same rules apply to blogs as they do to posts, you are expected to treat Blogs in the same way you would treat Blogscape, with the exception we will allow you to blog about real life there if you wish. User Profile Reports If you see a user with a bad signature or avatar now, you can click their name to go to their profile and then report their account, rather than having to report the user's post. Changing to Dark Skin If you wish to change to the Dark Skin, go down to the very bottom of the forum, click the drop down box with "IP.Board" in it, and then choose "Deflection". Updating Profile You may wish to update your profile settings as users can now have birthdays, to do this, click your name in the top right, and click "My Profile". Once you get to that page, click "Edit my Profile", from here you can manage details about yourself. Currently we are not allowing users to select a photo because it would have to be uploaded to our server, this will *probably* change in the future. Private Boards If you had access to any private boards before, and you suddenly find that you don't now, then please PM an admin and let them know which board it was so we can restore that access. We have tried to transfer across all permissions but it is possible we missed some. Clan Field The clan profile field still exists (and should still contain your original data), but I need to look into fixing it as it doesn't work quite the same as in phpBB. It's currently hidden from the view on posts because of this. Finally, please cut us some slack, we've just moved over to new software and there's bound to be teething issues, we know that a couple of small things might be broken here and there, but give us some time to sort them out, it doesn't matter how long we spend checking stuff, something always gets through which a user finds. You can discuss this announcement in this topic.

Just setting up some permissions and stuff. Fun. :)
  9. The forum would have no bearing on that at all.

  11. Forum conversion will be happening Wednesday night -> some time on Thursday with the aim to get back online before Friday (GMT).

  13. Although your issue has solved itself I would guess it was just a temporary routing issue with your ISP and ours. Since you could still access the forums (presumably) this makes sense as the forum and website are on completely seperate servers and providers.

  15. That's not your nickname, that's your name. When you join via the TIF IRC client, you automatically get your forum username and join date put in the name field when you connect, this is so we can more easily track forum users (because quite often people just sign up to spam IRC, this lets us see 1 day old accounts, for example). If you connect to IRC with the TIF client your nick will be "hawkxs" (there is a difference between nick and name). If you don't want this to happen you would need to connect with your own IRC client, such as mIRC. Our server details (which you will need if you use mIRC): Server - irc.tip.it Port - 6667 Channel - #runescape Just ask if you have any more issues, there's a comprehensive tutorial on using mIRC with our network here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=745468
  16. All posts/PMs and profiles should be visible as usual after the conversion. The standard IPB skin to begin with plus probably the CleanCut skin. The limit will be set at whatever we decide the maximum number of videos per post should be, undecided yet but probably something like 5. No.
  17. They are simply providing what their users want. Most (probably 99%+) users just want fast downstream and care very little about the upstream. If the ISP can get away without providing them with more upstream bandwidth, it will. That means we can call them and ask for more upstream? Sure, they'll tell you where to get off too I guess. For any changes to be made, extremely large percentages of their customer base would have to start asking for it and threatening to leave otherwise.

  19. Nope - while this option is available, it won't be enabled. Standards dictate users choose where their windows open now and by default it's the current window, not a new one. The "target" property (what was used to open in a new window) is deprecated in XHTML Strict for this reason.
  20. The 50mbit/s service, I would have to be, can't magically get that result on a 20mbit/s connection just because you're near the test area (which I'm not anyway, 200+ miles away :P).
  21. give me your internets. Never.
  22. What are you working for Jagex now? Just to confirm the conversion will NOT be tomorrow (Friday).
  23. MageUK replied to mlclm's topic in Tech and Computers
They're actually generally classified as viruses because of the packers they use to contain themselves, which is similar to the same packing that some viruses use. It's because of the way they are contained, not because of their function.
  24. Hence "Let this be the end". :) Yeah but not without you getting your final words in huh? A question for whomever is in charge with the maintenance and operation of this forum/swap over: Seeing as the new IPB version of the forum will have a lack of themes (Especially RS related ones) I was wondering if you're open to taking a look at user submitted themes? I ask this on behalf of myself and a few friends. We've always been open to user submitted themes (if they're popular enough with the community), the problem is not the themes themselves, it's the support for said themes. I don't have time to try and patch up a skin (design is not my kind of thing) because a forum upgrade I've just done has broken something in it. Obviously the default themes don't have this problem (but IPS does provide skin change files between versions to help with custom skins). The custom skin would also need to support the Gallery and Blogs additions to IP.Board, not just IPB.
