"Well, I have made a few improvements to the barrel itsel-" At this, May was cut off by Caladan's shouting. May quickly pulled her shotgun off of the seat of her car, set down her rifle in the car. She quickly put the shotgun on the strap on her back, scooped the two coils of rope off the ground, put them on her shoulder, and carefully picked up the box of c4, and started sprinting into the base. "Run! There's no cover here. If we can get inside the base there might at least be a chokepoint where we can hold them off!"
-
"It's up to you vlad. I've only seen one of those things before, and when it saw us, it screamed like hell itself was breaking lose. Every infected for a mile came running, and the guy who bothered her got ripped into pieces." May picked up a pair of binoculars off the passenger seat, and stepped out of her car. She looked at the witch, it seemed like it was a woman, in her early twenties or late teens, just sitting there, sobbing. "Hang on a minute" May put the binoculars down, and walked to the back of her car, and opened the trunk. She slowly removed and placed on the ground a box, labeled C4, a machete, about 200 feet of rope, in two coils; an unlabeled box and finally, a long black rifle case. She carefully lifted the case, and put it on the ground gently. She then stepped back, and addressed the others. "Alright. I have five C4 packs here, and, of course, a detonator. The machete's mine, and we can use the rope for climbing." She gestured towards the box "That's just ammo... for this." She opened the case, and lifted up a Barrett Model 82A1. "This thing cost me almost ten thousand dollars, and don't even get me started on the price of the ammunition. Anyway, I don't know if one bullet can take a witch down, and we don't want her to scream, and attract a horde, so the best thing to do, is to shoot her at the same time. Sound good?" May took a clip from the box, and loaded her rifle. "Unfortunately this thing is too heavy for me to carry around, and it won't be too helpful. so after this, I'll just bring my shotgun and pistols." May lay down on the ground, and put the crosshairs about 4 inches above the witch's head. "Just tell me when you're ready to shoot, vlad."

But there are little bones in the neck, and I don't think rotting flesh would be strong ;) Zombie flesh rots slower, since the virus kills most non-human things, including bacteria. But, even though they do a rot a bit, the spinal cord would be hard to sever. And technically, the severed head would still be a threat, since the only way to fully kill it is to destroy the brain, the head could still bite, but it would be unlikely that you stick your hand in it's mouth. A two handed sword would probably be strong enough to cut through the skull, but 1 handed swords would be mostly useless. Knives are good just because they're small, and easy to draw quickly, and they can do enough damage to kill a zombie.
-
With the zombie survival guide, a headshot is necessary. Firing without a silencer would just bring lots more to wherever you are. If we're talking about l4d or 28 days later zombies, a headshot isn't important. But, for the other kind, it is. Unless all the zombies were the same height, and it didn't decrease in height as it went through their heads, it wouldn't help so much.
-
it's light, and it' enough to go through the skull. That's all that's needed.
-
Silencers add only a little bit more. It's still no where close to a rifle's length. Plus, it beats firing a gun off, and attracting 40 more zombies. and just a .22. Or another pistol, but revolver ammo would be rarer, heavier, it has a longer reload, a louder sound, huge recoil, and the power isn't necessary.
-
according to the guide, .22 rifles and handguns are good, because they have the strength to go through the skull, but not back out, so they do extra damage by bouncing around inside the skull, and the ammo is light, cheap, and common. As for revolvers, pistols, the only real use of a pistol, is if a zombie grabs you, you put the gun up to it's head, and pull the trigger. Or at very close range. And revolvers (I think) can't be silenced, or silencers for them are rare. and silencers for pistols are important.
-
Zombies. You'd blow yourself up, in all likelihood, and if not, you'd run out of ammunition, they'd surround you and you'd be trapped.
-
If you'd ever taken care of horse for a long period of time you'd understand. You need to care for them, brush them, etc. Otherwise they will be much less likely to let you ride them. Or they might throw you in a bad situation, which they probably wouldn't do if they liked you.

Crownd was a fun achievement. I was in the generator room, only one team mate left alive, and he just got dragged down by a smoker from the second level. I was about to jump down after him, but right where I would have landed there was a witch. I had a shotty, so I risked it. I jumped literally on her, and fired at her head. Bam. Crownd. And we won that level too, even though there were only 2 of us.

True. horses are very good transportation too, but the upkeep is a little higher. Also, in a pinch, we can kill the livestock for food.

Here's a list of supplies and necessities that would make our lives better/longer. For 10 people: 20 semi automatic rifles. If any break, if we find any new people, spares are good. at least 500 rounds for each rifle, more if possible. This will take up a lot of space though. Supplies to build a IED, for clearing rubble, or for any reason. As much gas/oil as we can get A generator that can be powered by muscle, ie: A bike hooked up to a generator. a side arm of some sort for each person, a semi-auto pistol with silencer would work. 200 rounds for each of those. Two water purification systems, and a crapload of water purification tablets. The second is if the other rusts/breaks. A blimp or a helicopter, or both. As many things of canned food as possible. Or MRE's As much bottled water as possible Two crossbows with 50 bolts for each Seeds for food Agriculture tools, rakes, etc. An axe/saw for cutting down trees Shovels Hammers Nails Some rubber/instant cement. Medical supplies, advil, bandages, anesthetic, whatever we can get. If we could get some brave people to try to drive a truck to wherever we are with some of these supplies, we would have a good chance. Also, as for Alaska, and canada, zombies freeze, literally. They don't die, but their rotting bodies (which normally last 5 years) life span is extended. They will be fine in the normal months, but during the winter you'd be fine. But that's where just about ever refugee would be going.
-
Which is a problem. But a blimp can stay up for weeks, and have supplies to keep us a live. It would be a great support vehicle, a team of snipers in the blimp, covering a ground team.
-
hot air ballons are good for an escape, but they can't hold very many supplies, and at best, can stay up for a few weeks. A blimp would be very good, but they're really rare.

What I mean was half your argument was the living outnumber the dead 12-1, and that's irrelevant. The zombie is going to keep advancing towards the police officer, who, in all likelihood, only has one or two spare clips of ammunition. In fact, some cops don't even carry guns. The zombies aren't going to exactly wait politely for the police's back up to arrive either, and it's not like if a group of 100 people got infected they would only be coming from one direction. They would surround the people, and eventually push them against a wall. And again, soldiers, police, snipers, are trained to aim for the chest. after years of training, it's not as simple as just telling them to aim for the head. Plus, let's say your a standard police officer. You just fired 12 bullets into a person who didn't even seem to notice. Your going to be scared as all hell, your hand will shake, and you probably wouldn't even be able to shoot it in the head even if you knew to. After people realize that bites lead to becoming a zombie, people who are bitten aren't going to want to turn themselves in if they realize they'll just be killed. They might be hopeful a cure would be found, and just stay in their houses. As doors protecting someone, what about windows. I could get into just about anyone's house by brute force if i needed, and zombies would. The army isn't going to magically know that a headshot kills them. 5 zombies in nyc could infect hundreds or more people in a day, without anyone knowing what was happening. (Interestingly enough, new yorkers are injured by other new yorkers biting them something like 9000 times a year. I don't remember the actual number). The police probably aren't going to take action about calls of people biting people, at first at least. By the time people realize there's a problem there could be thousands of zombies, which would just infect more and more people, even if they were constantly being killed.

In my house/room: Paintball gun, pocket knife, about half a dozen lighters, about 700 dollars just lying around, a ton of cosmetic stuff that I rarely use.

Your missing the point. The zombie survival guide type zombies aren't actually dead Here's what happens. Your bitten. 12 hours in, your feverish, have a headache, and feel like crap in general. 6 hours later or less, you're in a coma. 23 hours in, all signs of being alive have ceased. Although you're not technically dead, a paramedic would think you were. an hour later, your a zombie. If I was bit by some random person on the street, i would think "Holy [cabbage]" But I probably would assume it was some drunk or druggie. As for quarantines, how the hell do you know who's bitten? In times of normal quarantine, people often lie, they are afraid to be taken away from their families. Do you expect that ever person in the country is literally stripped own and checked for bites? Let's say it starts in a rural town. There are like two police officers. One night, a zombie wanders out of the woods, who knows from where. He bites someone in their sleep. The next day, there are two zombies. People go about their normal lives, unaware that they were in danger. Maybe one of the zombie corners someone in an alley. That person calls the police, the police show up, they find a insane person feasting on a seemingly dead body. They unload a magazine into it, into it's chest like they had been trained. The zombie gets up, and starts shambling towards them. They've never seen anything like this, they just shot someone 12 times, and they didn't even seem to notice. The zombie bites the cop, who manages to free himself, and runs away. They call for backup, and the other police officer comes. By the time they get back to the where the zombie was, it would be gone. The zombie has probably infected other people by now, too. in 24 hours the police officer will become a zombie, infect his whole family, most likely, and continue through the town. in a few days, the whole town is infected. The zombies spread into the wilderness around the town, and a few weeks later, they shamble into random towns. Perhaps the people in the other town heard about a series of strange murders, where the victims were literally consumed. But they won't expect it to happen to them. More towns will be infected, and it will continue to spread. Lets say the infection starts in a third world country. There will be no police response, depending on the area, and the police would likely be badly trained, and using inferior weapons. It would spread at an even faster rate through a country like this, where there was little military response. Or, what happens if it starts in the states, or england, during a time of strife. Maybe there's a civil war happening, maybe we've just been bombed. In any case, the infection would not be able to be controlled.

Heh. It would still be a risk.
-
We'll be long dead before any find us. Imagine wandering all of earth only on foot, searching for a tiny island? Not exactly quick. Only issue is one washes up during night when we're asleep and infects us all. The chances would be low, but it's still a risk. So we would want to be prepared. I would be more worried about a ship with a crewmember that had been bitten finding us. Or pirates. Like, modern pirates.

The type of zombie we're planning for isn't exactly the living dead. It's a more realistic (If possible) version. It's a virus. anyone who's bitten becomes a zombie in about a day. killing the brain is the only way to stop them. The military is not trained to aim for the head, they are taught to aim for the center of mass. Even snipers are. By the time everyone realized the way to kill them was the head, they would have already killed and re-animated millions. Imagine one zombie, in the middle of new york, people would just take him for a drunk or something. He would attack people, bite them. They would be freaked out, but nothing more, if they escaped him. Police might try to detain him, and end up being bitten. If they shoot him, they probably won't aim for the head. they will aim to disable, or for the chest. Let's say a lucky shot hits his head, and he dies. Now there are dozens of people who have been bitten, in new york city. The next day, they would all be zombies, and this would repeat. Soon their numbers would be in the thousands, and a state of emergency would be called. By this time, it probably would not be realized that a headshot is the only way. People would just stay in their homes, or try to escape the city. those trying to escape would be stuck in the mass of traffic, only to be consumed by the zombies. Withing a week most of the population of the city would be infected. And let's say on the first day, a businessman, rushing to the airport is bitten. He is disturbed, but he can't miss his flight. He arrives in, lets say, london, the next day, checks into his hotel, and reanimates the next morning. It starts in london. London would be even worse due to the lack of firearms. How this would not affect 99% of the population is beyond me.

Zombies can't swim, but they can walk under water. If they're particularly bloated, they might float. Supposedly, in the world war z book, after most of the zombies are killed, there are still 30 million or so walking the bottom of the oceans, being dragged by currents, and occasionally drifting on to shore. But we might face 1 or 2 zombies in that way in like 15 years on an island. So unless we're caught unprepared, it's no issue.
-
I say we all go to some remote island, where there was little/no civilization, so there will be no zombies. The one issue with islands is like minded people. The oceans will be filled with ship trying to escape. How many of those ships have a bitten refugee who hasn't succumbed to the virus yet. Even in the middle of the ocean there is a good chance we would be found by other survivors, who might use force to get us off our island, if there isn't enough space for all of us. But still, that could work. It would also give us the option of fishing.
-
I'm using the zombie survival guide type of zombie, pretty much a romero zombie. No problems with daylight, their only intelligence is a instinct to kill everything, though humans would be a priority. They have no survival instinct, so even if they see 10000 fellow zombies cut down in front of them, they would continue towards you without hesitation. A shot to the head or destroying the brain is the only way to do it. They can't climb, though sometimes they might literally climb on top of eachother, and be able to reach slightly higher areas. They don't need to eat, they just do. They don't actually eat brains, because if they infect someone, they wouldn't destroy the infection. They will feast on the body until it comes back though. Middle of nowhere is the best option I think, since in a city there could be millions. If it's left 4 dead/28days/weeks later, middle of nowhere is best, but it wouldn't guarantee our survival, since they move fast and would keep looking till they found someone.
-
The point of being in the middle of no where is that we won't need ammo. If we're 150 miles away from the closest human civilization, the chances of a zombie running into is little to none. Towns are almost always close to eachother. or atleast with in a few hours driving. That's too close. Any gunfire could attract zombies from all over, and the collective noise of the zombies would bring even more to us. Middle of no where would be the only way where we would have more than a 1/5 chance of survival.
