Free will and omniscience paradox: If there is an omniscient being then it is impossible to have free will, for the omniscient being already knows what you are going to decide, therefore you can't decide because the decision has already been made. :lol: Wiki's wrong :^o :-w . If those theories are right, going back in time would send you into a slightly different time-line (but if the theoretical time machine "John" was talking about was improved, one could arrive in an identical time line (you create a new time line by going back into yours and changing it... ). So even if you go back into your original time line and do something, it will have no effect on you, since by changing your time line, you've split it in two.). IMO, that sounds more plausible than the religious theory of God just "being." Another way you could view it is that omniscience does not contradict free will. Example: Lets say I have a child. I presume to know my child very well. If I were to leave a cookie out on the table an hour before dinner, when I know my child get hungry, I would know that when I returned to that table the cookie would be gone, because I know my child would have eaten it. I did not force my child to eat it so I did not disturb his free will, but I had prior knowledge of what his actions would be. This is how I consider God. He does not remove our choices, he merely knows our hearts and minds so well that he knows what we will do before we do it.

Scary, I know. :uhh: If there's such a thing as an unstoppable force there cannot be such a thing as an immovable object and vice versa. About omniscience and omnipotence: If there's an omnipotent and omniscient being, they know what they are going to do next. If they know what they are going to do next, can they change what they do? If yes, they are not omniscient. If no, they are not omnipotent.

That includes a person putting a recording device there. It is impossible to tell if it will make a sound, because we only know sound happens when people are listening, or something is observing it. I used to believe that paradox, maybe two weeks ago, but Nitra's explanation shows why it's wrong. Having your whole life known before birth does not necessarily mean you lose "free will", and Nitra's explanation should explain why. Personally, I still don't think we have free will, not because a god could be omniscient, but based on the fact that every action we make is merely a reaction to our environment :-w .
