Don't show combat level when it's not needed

I am sorry to say I disagree with this suggestion. Although your intentions are good, I will list a couple of reasons why this is a bad suggestion. First, combat level is looked upon as a respectful type of thing. If a level 126 came up to you, you would be more excited ot talk to the level 126 than a level 3. Although combat levels can be misleading (pures and what not), it was the pure's choice to be that level. Normally, when a kid asks for my help, I will tell them what to do, or how to get there. Unfortunately, I am not going to come out of my training spot to hold this kid's hand and walk him over to his destination. Half the time it is on the other side of the world. The world map is there for a reason.

When kid's come begging got anything, I tell them that they are wasting their time. Right now, they could be raising a skill and at the same time gaining money. There's no point in holding this kid's hand once again, taking him to the bank, and giving him free stuff. You can base RuneScape on the real world in this post. Beggars don't make as much as workers. Worker's have a greater chance of succeding that beggars in the real world unless they get fired, thus becoming a beggar maybe. So why put yourself in a position where your spending 5 dollars a month to get 20 gp off me? This game is supposed to be fun. I don't see how you could have any fun begging for money off some kid that is higher up in the food chain than you. If you keep giving these kid's the attention they want, we would have the end of Runescape.

That was a long story, I know, but that's why we shouldn't hide high levels. Because there are hgiher levels and you are being treated bad, it seperates the kkid's from the adults. Will you take the step to fix the situation (raise your combat or just ignore them), or will you not take the step to fix the problem. (Whine and gripe that this game isn't fair.) Take the iniative and take the step. We were all there at one point, and look where we are now. We took the step. tell this kid to too.

I would support this normally, but it doesn't really change anything to take away the combat levels. In F2P, the highest armor you can wear is rune, right? However, you don't have to have a combat level in the triple digits to wear that. Heck, I was wearing rune when I was level 42, which in all honesty isn't that great an achievement. However, if no combat level is shown, noobs are going to be asking everyone with rune armor for "phr33 stuf plox".

Yeah, not looking forward to that. :P

In all games, combat lvl is how you are shown to others, combat lvls are universal. If there wasn't any combat lvl shown, things would be somewhat confusing. Atleast others know where you stand, and if they want the real truth, they can check your highscores for a bad or a good surprise.

..One of the biggest prejudices in the real world is color. If somehow we discovered a way to make all people white, we would find a new and more volatile way of discriminating against eachother.

(Don't take that as racism. I am not racist. I hate racism. It's just an example.)

Not to pick at you, but your example implies that only white people have problems with racism. Ever hear of the black panthers? Ever see these hispanic gangs that pick on anybody of a different race? Racism is a problem shared by all people and races. It's not restricted to any one "race".

Anyway, on topic.

Let me guess, you have a low combat level?

Combat is what the game centers around. Every skill relates to combat in some way or form, or aids in training skills that directly help combat. RuneScape IS combat. That's what the game is about.

Hiding combat levels are a bad idea. All it does is make it harder to determine who the most advanced players are.

And if this were implemented, what's next? Making skillcapes turn invisible at the touch of a button because what you call "level discrimination" is just as strong when people start comparing by cape instead of level?

I agree that combat levels should be hidden.

But that a total level or total exp should be in-place.

Mine would be "Deadbeat380 (13M Total)"

OR

"Deadbeat380 (1267 Total)

After all, Exp is where it actually matters.

Once, a level 80 started making fun of me :( So i asked his total exp and he said 4M. I said im 3 times as good as him :)

See, you must be below 80 combat or he wouldn't be making fun of you. Decisions that involve certain people more than others should get the feedback of the people it will affect, right?

Hiding combat levels won't affect you as much as much as it will me and the other people with advanced levels.

Just like things that involve pking, things that involve various skills, things that involve people of certain levels, changes should only be made to them after the advice of the people it involves are taken into account.

For example, what does a woodcutter care if Jagex nerfs mining? What skiller cares when pking gets screwed? What would a low level care if they can't see their own combat level anymore?

The thing is, hiding combat isn't a decision for level 60 and 70 and even 90 players. It's for the advanced players that have devoted time the the very core of this game, and what the peanut gallery says just doesn't count.

The bottom of the matter is; combat is the basis of the game. Not skilling. This is not a game of skills, it's a game of combat, supported by skills.

When you watch someone walk down the street, do you notice if that person knows a lot about engineering or physics or mechanics? No. If you notice anything, you notice how muscled the person is and maybe how determined and pricisely they walk. (And believe me, if you ever watch an advanced black belt or somebody like that walk, you can notice a difference between the accuracy with which they walk the the rather shuffled tread of the average person)

Why on earth would you notice how much "talent" they have in woodcarving? You wouldn't.

No, just no. I hate this idea, I hate the suggestion. As the very heart of this game, combat should not be hidden.

actually, when the game first came out, it didnt show the levels until you got close to the wild. it didnt work, because people just bragged about how high their level was, and there was no proof.

it also didn't work when you wanted to fight someone, because you wouldnt know their level until you get into the wild.

i dont support, because i know first hand that it doesnt work.

I was just saying this but you stole words from my mouth.. +1

Oh yeah and I remember when I was low level someone said that he wants to fight me in wild. And he said he is only level 10 (I was like 20), of course I said ok. Then when we got in Wild he was over 35 combat and started to laugh and almost killed me.
