The New Hide Option - How To Make It Better

Recommended Posts

Can this please be locked, it seems pointless to me now.

As most of us know, there is a new hide feature the the BBCode. Personally I think it's very usefull for blogs and other and other large posts which you may need to scroll a lot in.

But even though it was designed to scroll less, you actually need to scroll more now, because the button to close the "hideable" parts, is only at the top. I think it would be a great addition if it would somehow be possible to hide it at the bottom of the "hidable" part.

Jemathonical had an amazing addition to this; thanks for this quote:

The same can be done for really long quotes too.

Yeh this should make life 2 finger scrolls easier :)

Thanks for reading my suggestion.

If it can be done, I'll go for it.

Nice idea for the quotes, I'm gonna put this in it too.

Theres one major flaw to your idea..

the 'HIDE' BBCode and the collapsible quotes were both setup for different reasons

Hide was implemented because many users requested it for "spoilers" in the movies forum and for guides.

Quote was implemented with the ability to keep them closed by default because many users don't want to read the same text over and over throughout the same topic.

If you were to open a block of hidden text and then scroll down while reading it, and THEN close it from the bottom, you would have reduced absolutely no scrolling from the page, only added to it.

By closing it from the bottom, all you would be doing is moving the text below it (that you have not read yet) upwards on the page, possibly off the visible portion of the page depending on the size of the hidden content.

Personally I totally agree with the who idea of not spoiling something with the hide feature. But the thruth is; it's also used in blogs pretty often. So the blog looks smaller thus more organised. Personally I like that and it really helps IMO. So, to keep the blog small, I want to close the first hided part and then open a new one. I agree however with the text will be moved up problem. There for I think your screen needs to stay focussed on the same text (thus also moving the part you see up).

Same goes for the quote things. If I don't want to read all those pages, but do want to join the discussion, I read those very long quotes. Here I like small pages too, so making it "hidable" at the bottom of the page would surely help me.

I hoped this made sence, my english isn't very good (defenitly for a 17 year old).

Great idea. I hate it when I have to scroll back up to close a hide tab

Thanks! Finally someone else who posted. (This forum seems pretty derested.)

I still don't get it apparently.

If you have already scrolled past it and/or read it , then why do you need to scroll back up to close it?

I have a topic that uses this feature (oddly enough it's the only post I've ever made that's needed it). I don't really see how this is a problem to the point that Albosky needs to rewrite the code, especially when all that it's wanted for is to keep a post compact when you've already read that part.

Ok, maybe it's just a bad habit of mine (I always scroll up again to close it). Now it seems pointless to me indeed.

Bad idea; lock this please.
