April 24, 200719 yr I wanted to know if your F2P is it better to mass smith Iron or Steel? OF course everyone says Iron but thats only if youre a P2P and have ring of Forging. I dont really Smith to sell my stuff neither do I buy ore.
April 24, 200719 yr You would use a ring of forging with iron not steel. You never fail when making steel bars
April 24, 200719 yr Steel, you make money, while in Iron, you have the chance of losing some. Steel ---> 1k Bars = 2k Coal, 1k Iron = 400k Steel Bars sell 600k, so its 200k every 1k Bars. Steel is your best bet. Next Time, Help and Advice! Break
April 24, 200719 yr Author I Think youre trying to say buy the ore then smelt then sell the bars. That could work but I also want to smith my bars as well.
April 24, 200719 yr Well if you want to do some mass smithing, you're best to not smith your bars so that you can make a profit to buy more ores.
April 24, 200719 yr If thats true then who buys bars if smithing isnt profitable? They make Cannon Balls, and as you mentioned above, you're not a member. =p
April 24, 200719 yr Will move this for you since I see that you are a new user on Tip It, in the future all questions belong on the Help and Advice forum.
April 24, 200719 yr If thats true then who buys bars if smithing isnt profitable? They make Cannon Balls, and as you mentioned above, you're not a member. =p Also, people with money to burn to get smithing XP. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
April 24, 200719 yr Steel is probably your best bet, but I've also heard of people making addy arrows because they are in demand for F2P pkers. You couldn't make the arrows yourself, but perhaps you could smelt addy bars and sell them to a member. "We will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Instead, we are doing this for the good of the game, which is as dear to our hearts as it is to you."- JAGEX, December 13, 2007
April 26, 200719 yr Oddly enough.... Iron (in F2P) = 50% success, and 37.5 XP per bar smelted & smithed * So 6 iron ores = 3 Iron bars (average) = 112.5 XP Smelt + smith Steel = 1 bar per iron & 2 coal, 55 XP smelted & smithed * So 2 iron + 4 coal = 2 steel bars = 110 XP Smelt + smith Not a lot in it: Iron will have you waiting for 28 actions at the forge, instead of 9, and will take 50% longer to smith as well. Steel will take longer to mine the coal for, though the steel items will have higher value. Buying ores, assuming iron @ 100 & coal @ 200 (and steel bar making would be profit, but low xp) Iron platebody (336gp) costs 1000 to make, and gives 187.5xp = 3.54 gp per xp Steel platebody (1200gp) costs 2500 to make, and gives 275xp = 4.73 gp per xp This assumes best store price, which will not be maintained in bulk
April 26, 200719 yr Author The Plate bodies dont give that much exp. Steel plate body gives you 187.5 exp. Iron like 120 something.
April 27, 200719 yr I was quoting smelt & smith, 10 iron ores (@50%) to a platebody or 5 iron & 10 coal to a platebody. The main point, in F2P, is that iron is still decent smithing XP, but takes more time to smith, while steel mix takes longer to mine and actually gives slightly less smithing XP per ore. The fact that the 28 smelting cycles can be uncomfortably close to the logout timeout, is one reason to dislike iron. A similar problem occurs with a full load of of clay crafting.
