May 1, 200719 yr Well I am finally getting the upgrades my computer has been needing. I am replacing the motherboard, processor, and ram. I am wondering if I can just put everything in, and uninstall the old drivers and just install the new ones with no problems. Is that possible without running into a performance impact or issues down the road? I am running Vista Home premium x64.

May 1, 200719 yr Its not trouble free but possible. You might need to flash your bios or reinstall windows (wont lose your files) but it'll work ok. You're basicly putting a hard drive into a new computer. A new mobo, processor and ram is hardly an upgrade in my eyes, thats a new system. May 1, 200719 yr Personally I wouldn't even try it as you'll spend more time removing/adding drivers, adding fixes and reinstalling, then a backup and fresh install would take. As Mercifull said it is possible though. But in the end its your choice. May 1, 200719 yr Go ahead, you should have no problems with it. Though I would advise you to format anyway, formatting regularly is a good idea to keep your computer free of rubbish and will keep it running quickly.

May 1, 200719 yr Author I have one more question. Would my Ubuntu installation work fine or would I need to reinstall that? EDIT: I have another question, I am upgrading from a single to a dual core cpu would this affect anything? Like if tyhe program is multithreaded but I installed on a single core would it just "know" that it should be multithreaded now? I hope somebody got what I just posted, because I don't really know how to explain my question.
May 2, 200719 yr Just make sure you back up your data before upgrading. I have performed countless upgrades and have experienced major problems on occasions, other times it has gone smoothly. Just be prepared before you go ahead with it.
