blade995
Well I am finally getting the upgrades my computer has been needing. I am replacing the motherboard, processor, and ram. I am wondering if I can just put everything in, and uninstall the old drivers and just install the new ones with no problems. Is that possible without running into a performance impact or issues down the road? I am running Vista Home premium x64.
scorpus57
I believe you shouldn't get any issues because one of my friends did it and had no problems ~~!~~ScOrPuS~~!~~
Mercifull
Its not trouble free but possible. You might need to flash your bios or reinstall windows (wont lose your files) but it'll work ok. You're basicly putting a hard drive into a new computer. A new mobo, processor and ram is hardly an upgrade in my eyes, thats a new system. JoeDaStudd
Personally I wouldn't even try it as you'll spend more time removing/adding drivers, adding fixes and reinstalling, then a backup and fresh install would take. As Mercifull said it is possible though. But in the end its your choice. Somnambulism
I do that every other christmas without any problems. I've never had to flash the BIOS or anything other than install the new motherboard drivers. Iamdan
Go ahead, you should have no problems with it. Though I would advise you to format anyway, formatting regularly is a good idea to keep your computer free of rubbish and will keep it running quickly. blade995
Thanks for you help guys. I hope I don't run into any problems  . Mercifull: Why would I need to flash my bios? I do it anyway when new a new one comes out, but how would that affect the Windows installation?
Mercifull
When I put my old hdd onto a new mobo i needed to flash the bios because it didn't pick it up properly. blade995
I have one more question. Would my Ubuntu installation work fine or would I need to reinstall that? EDIT: I have another question, I am upgrading from a single to a dual core cpu would this affect anything? Like if tyhe program is multithreaded but I installed on a single core would it just "know" that it should be multithreaded now? I hope somebody got what I just posted, because I don't really know how to explain my question.
ooberman
Just make sure you back up your data before upgrading. I have performed countless upgrades and have experienced major problems on occasions, other times it has gone smoothly. Just be prepared before you go ahead with it.
