Guest ShadowClawe
Ok, we've all seen all those noobs saying @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ and theres not much you can do about it, or, you don't know what rule to report them under. (Ok, we know, you can report them for Rule 1, offensive language. But IMO, spamming should definately have a rule of its own.) Or, as a merchant, or even regular player, you might have seen those good-for-nothing etc. etc. noobs sending all these trade offers to you, and it gets pretty annoying. Players should not have to turn their trade off or chat off just to clear the screen of unnecessary text. These people need to know that spamming will not be tolerated by Jagex and is a disruption to other players. Rule #14: Spamming (Of course, since Jagex has out-of-game rules, Rule #14 Misuse of forums, Rule #15 Advert blocking, Jagex would slide those two one rule up, and put Spamming as 14, since its an ingame problem.) This must include saying @@@@, or any text unecissarily, and by sending multiple trade offers unnecissarily to flood the chatscreen. ============================================================= ============================================================= Suggestion: Jagex blocks the @ symbol! So, you've seen all those people spamming and saying @@@@@ everywhere. You can understand why its their favorite spam symbol. Because if you type it and hold it down, you will see it fills the screen waay faster than any other character. The @ symbol is originally used to adress email at websites, but since asking for personal information (including e-mail) is sctrictly prohibited on RuneScape, people should not be using it anyway. (Rule 13) And, the last and final reason why people use the @ symbol, is to swear/use bad language, and try to slip past the chat filter, by replacing a's with @'s. (Rule 1) Ex: Im gonna kick ur @-- So, what Jagex should do, is every time someone types the @ symbol, it turns out to be a space. That way, every time someone tries to spam/slip past the chat filter, it won't work. Ex: Zomg u noob im gonna kick ur @-- turns to Zomg u noob im gonna kick ur ss Or, we could also have a thing if you use the @#$%& symbols more than X times in a row, they just turn into spaces. (Thanks Moonshadow) There is no reason for anybody to be typing excessevly of one character, except to spam. good idea, but they could use other symbols, example: random noob:lvjljkljskvjsfgjlrkjfsldjvasjg they could do that too, or random noob: !!!!####$$$$%%%^^^^^&&&&****((((())))))___++++|||, etc. Very good point. They could just mix up the characters and still spam. What about this: When someone types in more than X special characters in a sentence, or more than X amount of words that don't fit in with Jagex's chatbox words, they get a warning message: You have filled the chatbox with text in a possible attempt to spam. You cannot type any messages for 10 seconds. So, what do you guys think? Love it? Hate it? Post your thoughts! ThurinEthir
@ can also be used for locations by people that use internet shorthand. "K i meet u @ lumby @ 4 o clock" So your second suggestion isn't good, but your first is. Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu. ShadowKing
Ya, rules 1 says Offensive language. Spamming isn't that offensive IMO lol. So I agree. Click for my blog :)
drapit
Make it so that it will only be spam when it is typed more than a certain number of times.
unkn0wnwarrior
I rather like both of these. The first one is done a lot at the Karamja fishing hole and often makes me turn chat to friends, potentially missing a good deal for my lobsters. The second one would be good, since the only place I really see the symbol used is in censor-evasion attempts. "K i meet u @ lumby @ 4 o clock"If they can type out o'clock they can type out at. hohto
I've personally also thought of making the chat flood an illegal act, no matter was it flooded with "selling x" or random gibberish messages. I've been thinking of a system where you can't type over x amount of letters within y amount of time. This would make chat flooding harder and more humane but it still would let you quickly correct your spelling mistakes or give a quick yes/no answer to someone while having a convo with some other person. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
Guest ShadowClawe
Thanks for the feedback, guys. penguingeek3, if you use the @ symbol, it won't give you that much trouble just to type in two characters instead of one. So, no one really said if they support. Can I have a "I support", and then say why or awhy not? Thanks :P ~SC
Jonte135
I don't think the "@" symbol should be blocked, then they would just use "!" "#" "̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã" etc... I would rather say that the message shouldn't be able to continue when you have wroten more than 4 of it. Like "@@@@" and then it goes back etc. And you can only use 2 special symbols in a sentence. Sorry for my bad grammar  Please! Support the new RuneScape bank!

I think that idea is better than mine... :-s :-s Anyways, I think they should still block the @ symbol, as almost the only reason why anyone would use it is to break rules. Zaaps1
Great idea- but it's far too weak. Instead of using @, they'll just use & or % or $, even #. They fill up almost as quickly. A stronger version would be to prohibit repetition of a character a certain amount of times (maybe 5 or 10). Also, instead of a new rule, keep it as rule 1, except change the name to Chat Abuse. I think this works, people on your ignore list cannot trade you. If I remember correct, it does work. Strengthen it up a bit and you have a fantastic idea. ~It's Super Effective! Guest
Good idea! I support! But i think that something should be done when some1 hits space, then enter. Mabye it wouldn't work? Also, i think it would help onbliterate spammers, by making if theres more then 3 sp. Characters, nothing would appear in the message. (3 so you can say=100%, meet me at lumby, and of course :) )
ThurinEthir
I personally don't use @...Just so you know... But people already use "u" instead of "you". 2 extra letters. 1 extra letter here. If you can't see my point, then oh well, I'm not going to explain as it doesn't matter. Because Jonte's suggestion is better... Even if you want to type "Nooooooooooooooooo" or "Selling cheese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", you're repeating that symbol AND being rather annoying. I mean, who wants to see their chatbox filled with... Spammer: Selling stuuuufffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spammer: Selling stuuuufffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spammer: Selling stuuuufffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spammer: Selling stuuuufffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spammer: Selling stuuuufffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you can at least get my point this time.
