Stop internet speed drainage by sister

Featured Replies

My sister in the next room uses high internet consuming programs which drains my speed because we're on a network. What can i do to get more speed and slow hers down?

BTW my computer has about 4x more RAM than hers and double the memory.

Help please?

I don't actually think it's possible to do what you're talking about.

If your sister is downloading that's going to cause you major problems with your internet speed.

Just make sure she isn't downloading, eg running limewire or downloading some sort of torrents as these eat internet speed.

If she's using peer to peer services, find out what ports they're using and block them on the router's firewall.

tell your parents its illegal, that'll stop her. If you do it to, tell them its a virus risk and just hide yours  .

Note the BETA, multiuser version - maybe that can achieve fair co-operation, though it would need to be on both machines, that's about 30 EU.

You might be able to get one free licence by submitting an ISP test, if they don't already have yours listed.

Go into the limewire settings on her computer and limit the maximum download and upload speed.

I know there are routers that cost a bit of money, but they can prioritize internet usage to a computer or something. You could see if your parents would invest in one and have it prioritize to your computer. Your sister needs to learn to share the connection, so by limiting the amount she can use, she'll learn to share it, willingly or not.

Dark blade, any router can do that as long as you know what ports to block :)
