June 18, 200719 yr Blossom's Ultimate F2P Coal Guide If you read, please post a reply so that I can improve! Thanks in advance! Table of Contents: (1) Why I should read this guide (2) Which is the best place to mine coal? (3) Stragety and Survival (4) Closing Words (5) Questions and answer Section Min. Requirments: 40 combat (23 defence is a must) 30 mining (silly) Recommanded requirments: 50 combat (35 defence) 45 mining Completed Dragon Slayer lvl43 prayer is optional p.s. If you get over 65defence, get nothing but a rune pick there. (juicce) (1) Why I should read this guide Mining coal is very, very hard. This is because coal is relatively rare in f2p, and competition is huge. Even if you are in mining guild, you may have trouble getting coals that you urgently need as higher level miners occuply the whole area. This guide will reveal another good place to mine coal - Skeleton mine with 34 coal rocks. Really, 34 coal rocks (not typing mistake) (2) Which is the best place to mine coal? Perhaps some higher level people have heard of this place and argue that this is the worst place to mine coal. They will say Chasm mine and Drawven mine is much better. Why? Because their combat is high, so as their mining lvl as well. With this, they can dominate all the rocks in that mine, and causes no problem for them to mine. However, for most of us, mining efficiently under large competition is hard. Some people subscribed to member solely due to the ease of getting coal in p2p world. But wait, I'll tell how to mine coal well in f2p. (3) Stragety and Survival The skeleton mine is in lvl9 wildy, single combat area. Most people will start moraning when they hear the world Wildy. Right, wildy is dangerous, yet we can use our tactices to maximumize our edge - close to Edgeville and absence of people. What you should bring is Rune full helm, rune kite, rune pick and full green d'hide set for f2p. Someone may ask,"You're putting 100k of armor at stake for several lumps of coal? no way!". Wait, if we fully know how to avoid risk it, that the risk is neglectable is clearly shown. What's the functions of different items? Rune armor - silly. lvl22 skeletons will constantly attack you while you mine Green d-armor - provide decent mage defend bonus NO food needed. You need space for coals, not fishes If you don't have rune armor or d'hide, you may replace it by full mithril/addy (don't use plateleg, use studded chap to increase mage def bonus) However, you will be hit more by those agressive skeletons That should look like this For the most important part, how to evade pkers. Run south east. Remeber that's single combat area. He cannot attack you while skeletons / scropions are attacking you. When you see someone attacking your cover (the skeleton which is attacking you) OR have a skull, run for Edgeville and change worlds You don't need teleport runes in this level of wildy- trust me, 100% unnecessary Bind spells should fail, due to large def bonus of green d-hides "bleep bleep Pker inbound. Ready to intercept" (my combat is 53 at that time) law runes are not necessary, however, they are carried as a safety precaution (I take these screens at a busy world) Evading routes: When facing pkers slaghtering in front of you, change world or you risk your items (I took this in world 32) (4) Closing Words That mining coal in f2p is tough, but fortunately, we have a great place - skeleton mine. Come here and enjoy mining coal! Hint: you may use monks in monastery to heal yourself remember to do this in F2P world. P2P worlds are too hazardous Remember to turn on 'protect from xxx' and protect item prayer when attacked by player (if avaliable) Thank you for tip-it to let me use the lovely wildy map Common Q&A: (1) Why don't u powermine iron? simple, safe and quick! I strongly agree that powermine iron is a good method. However, if one wants to train smithing via smithing steel and make weapons/armor as well, this coal guide will definitely help p.s. distance of Chasm mine from bank in appoximately equal the distance between skeleton mine and Edgey bank Update history -increased content -uploaded photos -first version Currently taking a break from Runescape
June 18, 200719 yr I guess thats a good tip for low level coal miners and you put a lot of effort in it, but at 76 mining the guild is so much faster, and normally i can hog 5 rocks to myself so I never need to what for them to respawn on busy worlds. I would suggest people to just mine iron when low levels to gain much more xp, less risk, and save money, make more money. Good guide though.
June 18, 200719 yr I laught at your equipment. Get 65 defence and all you need is rune pick with auto-relation off. They wont hit even half of your hp.
June 19, 200719 yr Author I laught at your equipment. Get 65 defence and all you need is rune pick with auto-relation off. They wont hit even half of your hp. If I had lvl65 defence with lvl75 combat, sure, I'd have brought nothing except a rune pick there. But wait, I'm sure that some of our friends need better protection. (see requirment section) Maybe I add this as a remainder/hint Currently taking a break from Runescape
June 19, 200719 yr mine iron to level 60 then go dwarven mine... as for skeleton mine, never mined there, prolly never will..coal source is too far from bank, and bugging skeletons slow down mining process. the weight of the armour will quickly lower energy. mine in wildy, far from bank + constant threat of pkers and skeletons.. compare that to mining guild: no threat, close to bank, no need for heavy armour.. i made my choice. the time u might lose in mining guild because of the other miners, is i think equal to the time u lose running to the bank, or running from pkers and world changing. i'll try it tho, to see if my statements are right or wrong. June 19, 200719 yr i have 61 mining and i can quite easily get a full invenotry of coal in the guild. So just write a guidea bout powermining iron and change the title of this guide, and then say mine in the guild. done, easy!
June 20, 200719 yr I like to combine this with Mind runes - go round the hill to the mind altar, craft mind runes, then go north (dodge the dark wizards) to the mine - you lose a space for coal, but it's a good double-trip. Doing just coal, I would take a few pieces of low-grade food (trout/salmon/kebabs/pies) though that's easy for me, as I run any character from my main down to my pures and fun-runners as fisher-cooks. You either eat the food when you need to, or to save a space. Staying deep inside this or the hobgoblin mine is usually a good idea, as is engaging a monster as soon as any player dot is seen. You want a mage or ranger to be at risk from the monsters, before they can attack you. Next, take the view low and spin it to face them, you want to sight their combat level, as they may be unable to bother you. Particularly if you play more than one account, lets say a pure, possibly higher than an iron pure, and a main, then REMEMBER what your combat level is - and if there are others not quite within attack level of you, then stay southwards. It can be tense if there is another miner close to your combat level there - keeping your distance is usually best. If you are attacked and escape, you may like to remember the name, and quickly return with best weapon, armour and food while they are still skulled on you. Tactics for this mine apply doubly so for the hobgoblin mine, in deeper wildermess, with tougher opposition.
