the new "dragonfire shield"-the good, the bad, and the ugly

Featured Replies

It's about time for another edition of "the good, the bad, and the ugly". This newest edition focuses on the new dragonfire shield which came out in today's upgrade.

The good: The regular anti-dragonfire shield is really easy to get, but only if you have done dragon slayer. Also, since you can get the other piece you need for it from almost any dragon in the game (except for those relating to quests), it makes this pretty good shield really easy to get. Also, since it is a shield with a special attack, it makes it a really good shield to use with most dragon weopens/abyssal whip. The best part of this shield though has to be the fact that though it has a special attack, to my understanding, it does not use any power from the "special attack bar". This shield could prove very useful if combined with the dragon dagger. Another really good thing point i found out about the shield is the fact that it gains defence stats with each dragonbreath charge. If you have all 55charges on it, you pretty much have a shield with a defence bonus greater than that of the dragon square shield. It could prove as a new choice for those lvl90+ people who can't afford good shields.

The bad: now onto the bad points of the shield. In order to make it, you either have to have 90smithing, or you have to pay oziach to make it for you. The cost of this shield proves fatal to it, as it required 1.25mil for oziach to make it for you. Instead of paying 1.25mil for this shield, you could get a crystal shield and still have enough cash left to fully recharge it a couple times.Another bad part has to due with the fact that it requires 75defence to weild. With such a high defence requirement, you won't really be seeing anyone under lvl90 using it. Finally, the fact that the shield loses it's defence bonus with each dragonbreath charge makes it really hard to use. you can either choose to use all the charges and end up being left with a shield the equivalent of an addy square, or keep the charges and have a shield with more defensive bonuses. Either way, using this shield will be tough to truly "use".

The ugly: With this new shield coming out, the price of the anti-dragonfire shield is expected to make a boost. This is going to make it a pretty easy "macroing item". Macroers will just stock up on a ton of these shields, then sell them for a ton of profit. Another ugly thing about this shield is the fact that with an almost identical look to the regular "anti-dragonfire shield", item scamming with this could increase.

This shield is complex. In one way it's one of the best shields invented by jagex. In another way, it's the ultimate way for rule breaking to go up. It's one "addition" that's both a good news, bad news idea from jagex.

Finally something good for HIGH LEVELS :)

I really hope not to see any low levels complaining that they can't use it, cause of the 75 defence requirement. High levels have been needing some sort of update for a real long time.

Good job Jagex :)

It costs 1,250,000 gp for Oziach to make it.

It is an interesting shield. If you use it too much, it's not that good.

well for once someone mentions the cost of oziach making it..lol..now i can add it to my post

Actually, only Black, Iron, Steels, KBD, and Wyrvens drop the bit to make the new shield. And the drop has been said to make dragon drops look common compared to it, it's extremely rare, in very high demand, and need the stats to back it up. Also, it only charges 50 breaths.

And yes, it's expensive to have Oziach put together, but chances are if you have 75 defnse, you probably have the cash to get this done. As for being tough to use, not really. It's easy enough to charge up, and there you have an awesome shield. For the charges, use them or don't use them. This isn't exactly the most difficult choice to make. if you like the stats, then don't use them. It's not like the thing lets loose a random breath.

As for item scamming, yeah I guess they do look alike. One is an orange shield, while the other is an orange shield with a MASSIVE dragon emblem on the front of it. Very easy to confuse I guess... :-k

it makes this pretty good shield really easy to get
From what I hear, the draconic visage might just be the rarest drop in the game.

55charges
It's 50 charges.

Finally, the fact that the shield loses it's defence bonus with each dragonbreath charge makes it really hard to use. you can either choose to use all the charges and end up being left with a shield the equivalent of an addy square
I think you're forgetting that it can be recharged for free and that each use only lowers the def stats by one... not so bad if you think about it.

With this new shield coming out, the price of the anti-dragonfire shield is expected to make a boost.
Because of the fact that most, if not all, of the people who will be making this shield are level 90+ and have completed dragon slayer, I'd say that this is highly unlikely to happen.

Another ugly thing about this shield is the fact that with an almost identical look to the regular "anti-dragonfire shield", item scamming with this could increase
They look alike?! are you kidding me?! One has scratches, the other has a large dragon-head looking thing on it. I think it's hard not to tell the diference.

I'm sorry for proving a bunch of your information and ideas wrong, but I just couldn't stand how you were going about this whole thing.

Also, shouldn't this be in General P2P since the shield is members-only (or at least I'm pretty sure it is :-k )?

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

There are only 10 types of people

This statement is false.

well..this thing kinda affects the general people..aka both f2p and p2p..most of the people selling the anti-dragonfire shields are going to be f2p, and this upgrade was also released so that everyone knew about it, not just the p2p worlds..

do you understand what this update is? its an upgrade to the regular anti-fire sheild you get from the end of dragon slayer quest. the sheild only protects from fire from dragons and has a very little def bonus. further more, the DROP is only obtainable by p2p monsters. once you get this DROP from P2P monsters, you either have the guy make your sheild, or make it yourself with 90 smithing, or have someone do it for you. at the end of the day, its p2p only, and it doesnt look at all like the antifire shield.

if you are confused with the new makeover the antifire shield got, it not has scratches and is the SAME shield.

I hate to say it, but high levels can use the updates anyhow. Does it truly, truly matter what level the update is for? I know if I was higher, I'd still use every single update that I could, just to at least try it out.

Back on topic here, I think the shield would be ratehr good. Anyone else think that lots more duels will be won, pk battles ownt?

i think the point was that the ITEM is for high level ppl.

Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.

I find it to be a very exciting new piece of armour, I just wish Jagex would change its appearence...

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

Everything you said is bad is actually good! We NEED a high level item, that only the elite of players can use. And the fact it can lost its defence bonus is the perfect way to balance it, imo.

About the ugly.. No macroers wont stock on this to sell it at high prices.. Make some research before posting. Only idiots buy their shields from other players (and you only need 1, not 1k at a time), instead of getting one at lumbridge.

Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07.

Please use the Discussion posts in General P2P, since this is a Member update.
