Fudgy999 Posted July 2, 2007 Share Posted July 2, 2007 In case you haven't noticed, a lot of pictures on the item database do not fit with the background colour around the image so we'd love your help. Basically, we need people to make a picture into a transparent GIF, and make the picture size 40x40 (which the database requires). From: To: It doesn't seem like much, but it really makes a better visual impact. Info is included here for people who aren't already expert at creating such pictures. [hide=How to do it] Open a database record that has a clear, crisp picture with the background present. Right-click the picture and choose View Image. [hide=Why do I need to view the image separately?]Because in some cases the basic picture size is 37x37 or 42x42, and the database is distorting it by showing it as 40x40. If you save it without viewing it, the captured image will still be distorted[/hide] Right click the new picture and save it down to your computer. This image is 42x42, so it's a good thing we saved it after viewing it separately - the db record would show a distorted 40x40 view. Open the file and use your image editing tools to remove the pixels that should be transparent (anything that is not the item nor the drop shadow.) Trim off the excess to make it 40x40 (or add some if it's too small). Re-center the image if necessary. I use a contrasting neon colour rather than white, so I don't get confused when I go to make it transparent. If you have good software, make the blank areas transparent and save it as a high quality GIF. However, if you are using MSPaint, this won't do. Paint GIFs are low quality, and transparent PNG files don't work with IE. [it turns out the ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãââ Add image to post option under your post text window inserts a fuzzy jpg, *but* your good original image can be seen just by clicking this one. So it's no problem if you'd like to do this. Or you can use an image hosting site.] What Items We Need Doing: We have a staffer working on items 0 through B. Choose any item beginning with the letter "C" or later. Check through the posts here first - someone has done almost all of the Ns, someone else has made serious inroads on the Ws, etc. For each 40x40 picture you make, the pic will be uploaded and you will be credited ASAP! Feel free to do as little or as much as you want, I would recommend doing a maximum of 5 before uploading to these forums so you don't work the same items as someone else. pokemama Posted July 15, 2007 Share Posted July 15, 2007 Just to clarify eyehawk's remark - please keep the "drop shadow" (that shows a bit below and to the right of the edges) when you edit out the background. It gives the image a bit of depth and looks nicer. And yes the item edges themselves (and the drop shadow) should stay the same colour they are showing - no colour changes are desired except to wipe the bank or pack background. And thanks for submitting a trial pic first - a super idea which saves effort! Here's an example showing the R sigil with the drop shadow, so you can look and see the difference. Please excuse the neon pink background - I don't have a transparency program. So you can just make the pink transparent and post it back. ;) There is no need to post the pic links as well - I have to download the pics to my comp in order to upload them, so I'm just right-clicking and saving. (Dunno if there's a better way to do that, lol.) Finally, do feel free to submit as few or as many pics as you wish. The rough guideline of "5" was just to make sure you didn't do a ton of them and then come online to find that someone else has just posted the same ones. :o it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*. It's possible that they've all been done. An important part of the effort is not only transparentizing, but cropping the picture to be 40x40 which is what the database requires - that's why the existing database picture of a rake is all squished. Thanks SO much for wanting to help, and thanks to all the people who have participated so far. Hopefully the pics will get uploaded soon!
