This one took me so long to make. It started out with a whole village, but I soon realized (after 50 hours of hard work!) that it was too difficult to add necessary details, so I decided to make the focus of the image just two buildings. That really improved the composition! I then remembered a dream I had several nights ago; it was very shadowy and light was shown in weird ways. I decided to try and get that effect so I removed the sun and made ALL of the lighting myself. It took a good few hours, but it was well worth it. Other small details like cracks, gutters and plants took much less time luckily :P

Enjoy people! I really like this scene :-)

Feel free to post either here or on DeviantArt :-)

Nicely done. I especially like the wooden supports for the stair doorway.

Some rendering engine Vue has...

Dreaming of that face again

It's bright, and blue, and shimmering

Grinning wide

And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes

Very nice, and welcome back. Love the plant in the corner  .

You ever considered making a wallpaper or something? I bet it would be a real hit.

Very nice...

A few things though...

The moss on the walls doesn't look entirely natural, the shape is good, but it sticks out too far from the wall, and it should sort of fade out a bit at the edges..

The lighting on the "archway" of the right building doesn't look right, perhaps you could fix that if you moved the light source up a bit, and put a second lantern above the arch...or just removed that lightsource alltogether..

Also, the texture on the pot on the plant in the corner seems to pristine, it should be roughed up a bit to fit in with the theme of everything else..

whoa nice.... sell it for stuff lol

nice to see you back akman, and nice work on that piece there.

The moss is extremely difficult to do, but I'm trying. Hopefully, it should be sorted out soon...

As for the 'unrealistic' lighting above the archway. There actually is a lantern up there and you used to be able to see it but when I reduced the height of the image, you couldn't see it anymore... However, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's unrealistic. Also, removing it is out of the question! That single light provides over 75% of the lighting in the scene!

Thanks for the constructive criticism though.

I don't know how easy or hard or whatever it is to make stuff in that program, but either way this is an awesome work. The minor details are only noticable to the artists eye. If I looked at this from a buyers perspective my jaw would drop. Awesome work, +fav.

Very l337. Keep it up.

Very realistic... 10/10 (just like the rest of your work ;))

9.5/10 nice nice nice

woah once again totally realistic, but...

u just take these pictures with a digital camera! joking m8

In my opinion, it's still unrealistic because you don't know the source is there, and you can't see it..

Perhaps if you just zoomed out a bit or something you could preserve the overall integrity of the peice, and still show what's going on.

Also, something I just noticed..

Given where the lighting is, the rust on the gutter seems to be gouging in rather than going out. It also looks rather "Photoshop-bevelish", if you know what I mean.

I have to agree with Wyrm here. It almost seems that you took a natural scene and threw in lights that would normally be there just so we could see the whole thing, since we can't see the light source. And the rust doesn't look very "bevelish" as wyrm stated.

Is 100% realistic always best?

When painters paint, they don't try to make everything totally realistic, they paint how they want to paint. Alot of landscape artists don't go for ultra realistic, they make renders how they want them to look.

Anyway, it's a very nice piece. It seems a little grainy/noisy where the floor is, not sure if you were going for that though.

Excellent work.

Actually, the rust is gouging in... I must have accidentally reversed the bump-maps  . I don't really want to fix that because it would another 10 hours to render. I don't have that kind of time unfortunately.

...they make renders how they want them to look.

Yup. This piece is not meant to be perfectly realistic - I just wanted to convey the feeling of melancholy with a 'night - time' feel...
