Favourite Musical Artists

Basically, I've noticed something about the music posts on this forum. There are threads about single artists, threads about single genres, and threads about a general group of artists. So I thought that it would be a good idea to create a thread that took that big jumble of musicians and condense it into one thread, hopefully a bit more organized than several threads spreading out over several pages.

The idea that this thread is based upon if the aforemention motivation and me wanting to know just how individual my tastes in music are among Tip.It. So I created this thread. Now, Feel free to post your favourite bands (Actually, that is the whole point), discuss them, rate an artist, point out the flaws of the artist, shower an artist with your admiration, etc.

I'll start it off by saying that my musical tastes vary wildly - I'll listen to Damien Rice, John Mayer, Led Zepplin, Rise Against, Metallice, Children of Bodom, Ill Scarlett, Streetlight Manifesto, Bob Marley, Fallout Boy, Muse, Immortal Technique, T.I., Mariana's Trench, The Notorious B.I.G., Cute is What We Aim For, Atmosphere, Kanye West - The list goes on an on. But there are only four artists that I have constantly loved to listen to. Streetlight Manifesto, Rise Against, Immortal Technique and Atmosphere. Streetlight takes the cake over ANY artist I have ever heard. I can listen to Streetlight Manifesto no matter what my mood, whether I'm sad, happy, angry, excited, anxious, nervous, scared, dealing with very touchy personal issues (Streetlight Manifesto actually was the best thing I could listen to then). In other words, Streetlight is my universal music. their music is up-beat, catchy, has some great musical structure and deals with some serious topics. I know I will always be able to listen to their music, especially since I feel it has gotten me through some rough emotinal times and helped me make at least one important decision.

Now, I would like to know what you listen to, maybe what you think of my preferences and to discuss with others. Oh, and any Streetlight/Catch 22/BOTAR PM me, I'd really like to talk about those bands with another fan.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

Oh goody. :)

Probably the best way to gain my respect when it comes to music is to have a varied taste in music, as free as possible from close-mindedness, and you seem to posess that.

Anyway, to my music preferences, my taste really varies quite a bit, so I'll just cut it down to my favourite bands in various genres (not all the genres I like are represented here, just the ones I like the most).

Death Metal/Heavier Metal :

Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Nile, Necrophagist, Bloodbath, Ed Gein, Glass Casket, Satyricon.

Metalcore/Other Metal :

Between the Buried and Me, HORSE the Band, the Devil Wears Prada, Poison the Well, Ion Dissonance, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, August Burns Red, Opeth, Isis, From First to Last.

Indie/Alternative Rock :

Death Cab for Cutie, the Arcade Fire, Say Hi to Your Mum, Metric, Bloc Party, Art Brut, Muse, the Stills, the Postal Service, Placebo, PlayRadioPlay.

Experimental/Soft Rock :

Gravenhurst, Battles, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Arab Strap, Clinic.

Instrumental :

Behold... the Arctopus, Buckethead, Tommy Emmanuel, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Vai.

Jazz :

Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald.

Rap :

Kanye West, Tupac, Talib Kweli.

Classical :

Lalo, Shostakovic, Philip Glass, Bartok, Godar, Tartini.

Acoustic :

Joshua Radin, Damien Rice, John Mayer, Jack Johnson.

Other :

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Imogen Heap, Ratatat.

I probably went a bit overboard, but that's about all I could cut it down to.

Cool.

Nice, I guess I'm not an individual after all. I really like quite a lot of those (Imogen Heap, John Mayer, Damien Rice, Kanye West, I'll listen to Jazz if I can ever be bothered to downlaod some of it, I love instumentals, Indie, alternative, heavy metal, never have really heard much Death Metal)

Thanks for such a deatailed and organized post, I think it might be better if mine was like that #-o
