titanic
I am trying to get my friends fansite out, since he can't use google. No one really visits the Off-topic forum. I think you should make a new sticky in each forum for advertise your thing here RuneScape Fansite http://www.freewebs.com/runescapesforumsandhintsGuides, Forums, you name it! Lord Diddy
I dont see how this would be really necessary or effective, as not many people are doing what you have going. From your sig it says "Join a be a mod" I hope you dont mean in runescape, if its for the fourm be more specific. Good luck with your site though. aaron1120
No one really visits the Off-topic forum. Off-topic is probably one of the three most active forums on this board. Putting stickies in every forum for advertisements is way excessive. The one we already have is very gracious as it is. Why would a fansite strive to help other fansites? < | Runehead | Learning Java Programming, Please PM Me Tips | Signature by Loaf2000 | >
titanic
Well thats what Jagex told me. I mean I'm like sad, and mad no one will join our forums. tripsis
I still stand by what I said before: Actually there are plenty of people who visit the Off-Topic forum  It's probably one of the most active (I think, anyway). I think that having a sticky on every forum for advertisements would be a bit excessive :wall: But if you'd still like to repost your idea, feel free to do so in the Forum Updates & Suggestions forum. Website Discussion is for ideas regarding the actual help site, not the forum. I hope this doesn't come off as harsh, but it's really not a very good idea to put effort into a fan site this late in the game. RuneScape has been out for several years now and there are already hundreds of fan sites out there and most people are comfortable with the more popular ones like Tip.it, Runehq, Runeweb, Draynor.net, and so on. With so many other big fan sites out there that offer guides, calculators, forums, signatures, etc., the chances are very small that yours will get noticed unless you've paid to get your own domain name and have everything that I've listed above. Making a forum/fan site isn't a walk in the park. If you want it to become popular you have to spend a lot of time and money on it. Plus it helps if you're an experienced HTML/PHP coder. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Kevin_
Like Aaron said, Off Topic is one of the most active forums, other advertise threads are unneeded. Some people dream of success, while others make it happen.

aaron1120
Lol, how much money? Some of the larger sites with higher bandwith are over $100 dollars a month, and some even reach over $1000. This is just server-wise. If you want a good, professional looking website, and helpful features (calcs., maps, etc.) you will need designers and coders. Maybe you will find some volunteers, but that would be extrenely hard to come by. EDIT: Not to sound rude or anything, but to become a well-known fansite nowadays, you're gonna have to bring something awesome to the table. < | Runehead | Learning Java Programming, Please PM Me Tips | Signature by Loaf2000 | >

mchainmail
Ya, well google goes up to $100-$250. um... what? If you're talking about adsence, then yes, advertizing costs money. However, google allows all sites to be catalogued into it's database for searching. All you need is the right keywords. But if your forums are hosted by a forum-hosting site (like invisionfree) then they may not. In general, you need to spend quite a bit of money to get the site going, and you won't get a return on your investment for quite some time. titanic
Yes, you are right, but if you spend $0.1 making a site, no one is ever going to see it. ;) RuneScape Fansite http://www.freewebs.com/runescapesforumsandhintsGuides, Forums, you name it! InkofDeath
For a FanSite to succeed this late in a game, as tripsis said is highly unlikely unless when you release your site publicly it has all the features Tip.IT, Zybez, and any other FanSite has, plus as aaron said you have to have some sort of fantastic feature that sets your site's standard far above any given FanSite, possibly even more then one extremely awesome unfathomable feature. Which quite frankly is difficult to even do considering any great feature has already been taken... Also, for the first year in making a site, I'd presume you'd have to pay out of your own pocket, unless somehow you made an agreement to get your site advertised very much. Which would probably bankrupt you without a good paying job, if you had all the features you needed to keep the site alive when it may become active. There's also the cost of people working for you. I highly doubt anyone would volunteer unless the site is already active. The only reason why someone may volunteer is to be bale to put an active site, that looks good, and runs smoothly on their application for a job. It would show that they were able to help produce a product(the site) working for free, and it looks like a good job for no payment. Then the company begins to think what work you'd do for actual money...Plus who knows how many people you'd need to work on a site that would have possible potential in becoming a large active base. Anyways back on-topic...I think its already been answered as a no, but I do see it as a very depressing thing to have an advertisement sticky which hardly anyone ever looks at. Which is why you shouldn't advertise on Tip.It. Its too much of a hassle to everyone(yes even users would find an inconvenience in it) to look, or moderate a sticky. Its just not a practical action to do. But I do see it as your way, and I'd suggest finding another way to legally advertise your site, besides advertising on sites, in-game, or illegally. As I said in another thread that regarded a user wanting to advertise his/her site or product(I forget what it was sadly), be an active poster, and advertise your product in your signature (Which you've done). tripsis
What are you talking about? Jagex said we can advertsite on other forums if allowed. Close this topic please, since I got a respond from another person. I think Albosky is referring to the fact that we only permit people to advertise their forums/websites/whatever in the designated sticky in the Off-Topic forum and in signatures. But we do not permit users to slap a link in their signature and post spam on the forums in hopes that their signature will get noticed. Locked on request. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
