JoeDaStudd
Hi, I posted a while back looking for free web hosts. After a lot of searching I found very few free sites had what I was looking for and even then they didn't perform to well. I set off looking for a paid for web host. I need a few questions answering. 1)Which out of the following would you go with (mainly using php and mysql); Servage  EUKHost-Silver Package  Ware Welsh Web Hosting - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã39.99 Package  Easy space-Starter Plus Package  Designer Hosting-Business Package 2)Linux or Windows Server? I now the main differences, MSSQL/MySQL, asp.net/php etc. But what does it all boil down too? PS. Can AJAX be ran on a Linux Server? 3)What should I be looking at spending on this web site? I'm currently looking to spend no more then ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã50 (is this to less?). Thanks for any help/feed back. Cruiser
I can't really comment on the hosts (just a quick reply, no time to convert UK to US currency) but the Linux/Windows choice doesn't really matter. It's up to what the host offers. PHP/ASP will run on both platforms, as well as mySQL. AJAX is nothing more than javascript talking to the server in some form, so that is also platform independent. It really depends on what you need and what the host offers. If you just need PHP and mysql, it doesn't matter. Linux web servers will generally be more stable and give better performance in the general web host area though.

Bac_Talan
Personally, I use 1&1. It has very reasonable prices and a very large number of features..including full copies of Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and GoLove CS2. Personally, I think they would be best for most things. dutycalls5609
I've heard good things about Lunarpages. They give free $700 of CoffeeCup software, which is supposed to be nice. If you're using Mac or the almighty Linux, they work in WINE. I'm going to go with Dreamhost. Their rewards system (more bandwidth and storage each week you're with them and $97 a referral) is great. Some people say they oversell, but they mention noone consistently uses that much and that it helps customers' sites not go kaput from a Digg/Reddit/whatever bomb. Oh, and go with Linux. Your site will have a better uptime and consume less server CPU (Linux is more economical). That'll make your hosts happy. Also, I think the aforementioned hosts charge more for Windows. If you believe you came from monkeys, you probably did.
Mercifull
I've heard good things about Lunarpages. They give free $700 of CoffeeCup software, which is supposed to be niceThats a gimmic though and souldnt be a deciding factor. Most CoffeeCup software is pretty basic and certainly not worth anyhitng like the price they put on it. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. JoeDaStudd
Thanks for all your help. I just found this site which seems to offer hosting for nearly nothing ( ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã9.31 pa, for 1gb space and 10gb bandwidth, with php and mysql). Can someone have a look over it and tell me if I'm overlooking something? Ps. I know I would have to buy the domain separately.
