Does anybody go to or work at a sleepaway camp?

For the past 8 summers of my life i have went to a sleepaway camp called Camp Chen-a-wanda in pennsylvania. It has been by the far the best times of my life and i met the greatest people there. I am much closer with the people i met there than my friends at home. I have been going since the end of 3rd grade and now i am going into 11th. Next year i will be a counselor there. I was just wondering if anybody else on these forums goes to a sleepaway camp in the area or any sleepaway camp at all.

if you want to ask some questions about a camp like this feel free to post as well!

I taught English as a foreign language during all of July - which acted like a camp as the kids came from other countries and boarded with us (teachers).

It was amazing - the work was rewarding and most of all, it was so much fun. You make brilliant friends on camps like this - both the kids I taught and the people I worked with - because you all pull together as one to work on something, and when you achieve it, the feeling's incredible :)

not really except that you sleep there for 7-8 weeks

You can sleep that long?!?! Wow...

Hibernation ftw!

The only summer camps I go to are just like one weeklong one, but it's more camping than anything. There aren't cabins.

Well, I go to boy scout camp every summer, if that counts. They're usually fun. You get merit badges, you get sunburned, you get a few bug bites, you generally have a good time. It's only 1 week, though, and no cabins. I know quite a few staff members, one's in band with me, we hang out with him up at camp.

I don't go to summer/sleepaway/whatever you call them camps. I hear about friends going to those, but mostly they're going to Bible Camps to become brainwashed more by religion. I remember one year going to a School Summer Camp that was tradition for all 6th Graders to go to, it was so much fun, met new friends, went on hikes, twas a blast. I also went back in the day in Elementary to a Cub Scout Summer camp, that was fun too, making stuff, swimming in an ice cold lake, hikes, shooting BB guns and bows and arrows. I then quit the scouts when I got the Arrow of Light (Highest Cub Scout badge, after you get this badge you become a Boy Scout). Bu I don't go to summer camps, I find them boring, I'd rather sleep in, in my own bed at home and watch tv, hang out with my best friends that are already nearby. :)

Wolfy is Officially Retired.

I miss you all (Well, mostly my friends n stuff)

If you want to talk to me, send me a message, I check the boards daily. :D

I go to a sleepaway camp in Maine, and I love it! I've been going for 3 years (next summer will be my 4th) and I'm going into 8th grade. So soon I'll be a C.I.T. (Counselor in Training) then a Counselor. You're right about the friends thing, I probably know more about my camp friends then my home friends. In my age group theres only like 12 boys and like 20 girls so I know all of them pretty well. One of my sisters has been going to sleepaway camp for like 9 years or something, and my other has been going for 3 like me. I can't wait for next year :)
