guthix121
I was working on an account for 2 years, when I accidentally fell for a scam. I lost all of the 2 years work. I got my account back, but it doesn't have anything worth over 5gp. I have decided to make an anti-scam guide, so you can be prepared for the scammers that are out there. *Scammers usually stay in populated worlds in populated places. An example is Varrock in Worlds 1-6. A word of the wise-Most scammers are usually lvl 3. This is because when someone wants to scam others, instead of using their main, which they don't want banned, they make a noob account just for scamming purposes. Types if Scams: Item Scams 1) The Trust Game-This is one of the most common scams. Someone will promise an amount of money (usually 1mill) and they will ask you to trade in items starting with 1gp. Everytime someone trades, the price will get higher and higher. Eventually, when the scammer thinks they have enough, they log out. Prevention-Never trade items for free without the other person giving something in return. Even the people on your friend's list can just log out when you give them an item. 2) Free Gem Cutting- This varies. Most people when they say this will just trade your uncut gem for a cut one they already have. Others though, will ask to take your gem so they can cut it. They will usually log out after this. Prevention-Either don't accept the trade, or ask the person to trade something temperarily equivalent to the gem's value. That way if they log out you will still have something of the same value. If they don't log out, trade back the thing they gave you for the cut gem. 3) Quick Switch Trading-This is when people add a price, such as 180k for full rune, then start adding other things to divert your attention. While you aren't looking, they switch the 180k for 18000, which at a quick glance still looks like 180k. *This scam has been eliminated thanks to Jagex's trade update. 4) Switch Trading #2-Lets say you wanna buy big bones, someone offers them to you. Once you get to the second window, they decline. They say something along the lines of "Oops, my bad!" The second time you trade, they put in normal bones, which noted look pretty simular to big bones. You quickly accept and end up scammed. Prevention-Do not rush any trades. Take your time and carefully look at the second trade window. Note-This scam can be accomplished with other items like rune and iron scimmys. 5) Trimming Armor-Someone will be standing there saying "Trimming Armor." You trade them your armor and they log out. To make it more convincing, the scammer may have a friend who will say "Can you trim my armor?" He will take of his armor and pretend to trade it. The scammer will then do some kind of emote like enchanting or alching, making a glow. Then he will trade again with his friend and his friend will put on trimmed armor. Prevention-Players can not trim armor! Trimmed Armor comes from members who did Treasure Trails. That is the only way you can get Trimmed Armor without buying it from a player. This is all of the guide that I have decided to make. If you want to add things to the guide, just post them here. This way the posts will be part of the guide as well. Own a forum? GlowinRedM
Add this one (P2P Only): Scam: Someone will say something like "Drop party 30gp Needed!" and take you to Karmja and then to Brimhaven. They will then take you to the Tribesmen and ask you to kill them so they don't attack the scammer while he "drops" the stuff. You get poisoned for 11 damage at a time by the tribesmen. Solution: Only do drop parties at the Falador Party House. Duh. The corp beast, is, well, just a corp beast. He doesnt even have any friends.[spoiler=Other Quotes]tbh idk why this makes me laugh so hardAll DFS threads turn into efficiency flame wars >.>>OP asks "why use DFS?">everyone says "there is no reason">someone says "stop bashing people who use DFS, efficiency troll ass clown">thread is now a flame fest

guthix121
I don't think I will make another guide-or add on to this one for that, since it is not really popular or necessary. If you want though, you can still post popular scams, and that way the posts will become part of the guide as well :? . Own a forum? Advertise it for Free!!!
