Poopingmans guide to herb gathering in The Chaos Druid Tower

Featured Replies

So lets be serious, one of the best way to collect low-mid level herbs along with the vials necessary to craft them is by training on the Chaos Druids in East Ardounge. However, this is a well known method, and many other players take advantage of it. My guide will specifically elaborate on how to be the most efficient and defend your spoils against competing players. (Heck, most of this applies to any other popular, cramped training area!)

1. Understand the spawn points

Like any other monsters in Runescape, the druids spawn in specific, unwavering spots around the ground floor of the tower. Being a low level monster, they respawn pretty rapidly, so you're rarely waiting for more than 5-10 seconds. Observe and memorize the 4 spawn points:

The knowledge of these spawn points becomes undeniably exploitative when other, competing players are present. Being aware of the order the Druids were slain in (thus, the order they will respawn) helps you get in position to click immediately after the target Druids spawns. While some players may have a split-second advantage due to internet connection and/or computer speed, understanding these rules will help you defend your world with unmitigated proficiency. Which brings me to...

2. Defend, Defend, Defend!!

More often than not, you won't be alone in the tower, it fills to capacity quite quickly (up to 3-4 people at times!). Using the knowledge of the spawn points, prove to that other player that you aren't messing around! And that their time is better invested on another world. Try your best to get in the proverbial "zone" at this time, jumping from Druid to Druid, as the other player lags behind, constantly seeing "Somebody else is fighting that!" on their screen! Nothing is more frustrating, they may cuss you out, they may call you a nerd, but they will leave!

Having the ability to hit 20-21 consistently helps, as it allows you to 1-hit KO the Druids and clear out the room swiftly. Another important facet is brought up: If another player is present, wait to gather the loot from the kill, jump around and clean out the room, then gather the herb/vial drops.

3. Exit Strategy

A good way to get some extra cash and runes is to exit via the chest underground. It actually teleports you out of the tower near the bank after rewarding you 500gp and 2 blood runes. Keep 2 inventory spots open for these your first run through! Cash in at the bank, and head back in! The Druids also drop a modest number of Law runes, and mithril bolts. Both should be picked up, since they stack easily in one inventory spot.

Hey nice guide a little tip -- store the mith bolts in your quiver. 8-)

Ha! Great point, thank you! :)

Also, if you are aware of the Druids' spawn order, a good way to confuse the opposition is to stand on the spawn point, this way most players won't be aware of the Druid's presence, allowing you an easy kill.

You should mention this place is good for the lower lvls, who can't really 1 hit them... if you can, then this place isint good. Their spawns depend on the population of the world, NOT their combat lvl. I used to go here, but now that i can 1 hit, its not worth the wait. While filling my invent of rannarr+ hre, i waited about 10 min. IF you can 1 hit, edgy is besty.

BTW, maybe a pic about where the tower is? For those who dont know

No it isn't, under Yanille is better if you have 82 thieving.

Good guide, but a bit obvious in my eyes. Stand near the spawn spot, kill them in the same order, etc. already pretty well-known Imo. The only tip, which I thought was very handy and didn't come up with myself was about looting the chest, I never thought of that.

Not really. Its about the same. Yanill durids are further spread apart, and its far if you dont have 82 Theiving. The only good room is Salarin the Twisted room, but its almost tje same as the tower.

Sometimes possible, though not that usefull. Put your herbs into vial drops you receive. Although not that usefull, in the long run you might get a few extra vials.

Bolts in quiver spot is already mentioned

Hm, max str + att gear and take a fast weapon, not a slow weapon. Whip/scim/long, not DDS. Fast weapon as you can usualy 2 hit the druids.

Further more, try not to piss of people by responding yourself. Just ignore while you are defending your spot and don't take others spot. They will respect this with others later on!

Also, you might want to use some attack pots you have left in your bank. Just bring a attack pot (3) or any dose and just drink it every 2 rows of inventory you get full. And drop the empty vial or left overs in the end.

I've never heard of this place, good guide!

Next time I'm looking for herbs I'll be there, it sure beats going all the way into Taverly dungeon!

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!
