Post Requirement for Making Topics. (Lets brainstorm now)

Featured Replies

Useless. With a requirement, these people will just spam other people's topics to get their post count up.

So instead of them creating spammy topics, they turn other threads into spammy topics.

That's the only real problem, but it's insurmountable. Good idea, but not gonna work too well. I like the idea of having to have a certain number of words to count, though.

Being immature is a part of being mature.

Maybe they would have to have a registered e-mail address in order to post topics? It will help cut down the spammers as if you E-mail ban them, they won't be able to make another account with that E-Mail address.

As Tripsis says, there will always be people who are willing to spam up the forums just to get their message across, or just to be a complete nuisance. You can control the amount of them there are by enforcing moderation, yes, but in my opinion, Tip.It Forums has done all it can to restrict the amount of spammers on the forums while still making the forums a friendly, open place.

Therefore, my personal judgement is that any further clamp down on the few spammers that remain would actually do more harm in terms of the quality of the experience shared by forums users, than it would do good in the amount of spammers left. And even then, there'd still be some left at the very least.

So, all in all, I think this is a poor suggestion.

Maybe they would have to have a registered e-mail address in order to post topics?

Er...you can't register for the forums without a valid email address. And if you can't register, you can't post.

Remember, the SEARCH button is your friend. Use it!

Well, not everyone who register in the forums can know that

C'mon now...every single person who's posting here knows that they had to enter an email address to register. Cause if they're posting, they registered!

Who says these who just joined should be hindered to post? Frankly, they have as much right as we do.

Just coming back to this to share some personal experiences and opinions:

Post requirements have really drawn me away from other forums (not RuneScape-related). In the past, I've joined forums in hopes of sharing my art or talking to people who share a common interest... just to find out that I need 50 posts on other boards before I can post in the art section. Now that's just silly. Maybe I'm not interested in the other boards, and just want to post in the art section. Well now I'm left with two options: spam (or maybe not even spam, but just post unmeaningful, almost worthless comments that I didn't put thought into) the other boards to rack up a post count of 50, or find another forum. My personality would cause me to just leave the forum. It's not worth my time to post on boards I'm not interested in.

The same concept can be applied to Tip.it. Would doing this weed out the "bad eggs?" Sure maybe some of them, but it will also stop a bunch of intelligent, enjoyable users from coming to the forums. Maybe someone wants to join the forums to help out in the Help & Advice section. But what if that has a 50 post count requirement? Same goes with Off-Topic, Tech & Computers, The Gallery, etc.

We want the forums to be as welcoming and open as possible. Restrictions only cause people to lose interest and prevent people from registering and maintaining an account. Sure it could help us in one sense, but in my opinion, it will hurt us much more than it would help us. If people were to more actively report users, this wouldn't be as much of a problem. I can't tell you how many times I see someone post a nasty comment, and instead of reporting it, someone just shoots one back at them, continuing this negative cycle which certainly doesn't help our community. If you make the effort to report users who post worthless, rude, inappropriate, or rule-breaking comments, that user will be handled appropriately (through removal or their posts in addition to a warning, a temporary or permanent ban).

If you guys cooperate and work with us (instead of expecting us to implement tons of rules in hopes of fixing it all ourselves), we don't need a post requirement to improve our community.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?
