September 19, 200718 yr I'm planning on getting vista when I get my new pc ($500 more =P~ ), I will be getting vista with it. On XP, I have my visual styles, Konfabulator widgets, Rainlendar, some stuff done with tweak UI, object dock, and that kind of stuff. Will any, if not all of these be available when I make the switch to vista, and what will change interface wise in Vista? Last.fm Signature Overlays
September 19, 200718 yr I'm no expert, but i'll give you an answer never the less. The main thing is, have you checked so your custom-windows things are Vista compatible? Because some might be only for XP or vice versa. Atleast the desktop skins normally works both with XP and Vista. But as i said, check if your customizations are Vista compatible. I hope i was to some sort of help. J'adore aussi le sexe et les snuff moviesJe trouve que ce sont des purs moments de vieJe ne me reconnais plus dans les gensJe suis juste un cas désespérantEt comme personne ne viendra me réclamerJe terminerai comme un objet retrouvé

September 19, 200718 yr I'm pretty sure that all of the stuff you listed is Vista compatible software. However, there's no guarantee that any of the skins, etc. will all work on Vista because they may be designed specifically for XP. You really won't lose much of anything when it comes to customization though, I can't even think of one thing. Vista > XP when it comes to looks, in my opinion.
September 19, 200718 yr First of all, don't get Vista. But to answer your question, as long as it's stored on your hard drive and not in conjuction with the OS, and as long as the custom things are complatible, then I'd say it should. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.

Actually, this is going to be on a completely new machine, and I want vista for it's dx10. These are like skins and stuff, and I'm not sure if they're compatible with Vista (Like the uxtheme patcher so I don't have to buy blinds) Last.fm Signature Overlays

The first thing is, don't say that out loud  .The same exact patch may not work with Vista but there are plenty more that will and do. *cough* Because I'm using one with Vista Home Premium*cough*
September 19, 200718 yr Oh you mean the crack for "free" Windows blinds? The first thing is, don't say that out loud  . The uxtheme patcher isn't a crack for Windows Blinds, it modifies a Windows system DLL so that it allows you to use homemade Windows themes rather than just the ones Microsoft allows you to. As for the original question: You'll have to search for yourself on each individual modification you've used, since each may or may not work on Vista with or without an update. Things like desktop widgets ought to work, since they're not direct modifications of Windows or its registry settings.
September 19, 200718 yr First of all, don't get Vista. Vista isn't that bad. =P~ I'll echo skatedog ---- Anyway, you will need to patch the uxtheme.dll in Vista with a version of this file or a program that is compatible with Vista.(no surprises there...) However in Vista there are three files you have to patch! uxtheme.dll shsvcs.dll and themeui.dll Get them here: Link You won't be able to use your old themes with Vista, as the .msstyle will only work with XP, you will have to get ones that are compatable with Vista. As for the GUI, if you use a .msstyle in Vista you can use transparency which you can't do in XP without WindowBlinds or StyleXp. Which is great. ---- I would imagine ObjectDock will work in Vista, seeing as it has been updated in 2007. But I'm not 100% certain.

But, in my opinion it's nothing that's worth the resources it uses. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.

Your first post made you sound like an ignorant idiot (no offense).

But, in my opinion it's nothing that's worth the resources it uses. To be perfectly honest, if you have a PC that windows was designed for it is less of a resource hog than you may imagine. Here's a little for instance: The use of the desktop in XP and non Aero Vista is all bitmaped and uses CPU and system RAM. If you can run the Vista Aero theme which means you have a good enough graphics card, the desktop and windowing is nearly all controlled in hardware by the graphics card freeing up your RAM and CPU for the things you really need them for. I see people saying things like: Well I ran Vista on the most basic bitmap desktop and it was oh so slow, I can't imagine how slow it will be with the Aero Theme. Well actually it's faster because of the above. As a point of interest, my Vista boot runs smoother than my XP boot on exactly the same hardware. Please don't say that I should try Linux then as I also have Ubuntu on another HDD which I can boot to by changing the boot device order in the BIOS, and I don't consider Linux to be viable for the applications I want to run. Linux is in my opinion better if you want to run a server, but we're all entitled to opinions aren't we 8-). [Assist-X]
September 20, 200718 yr yes you can, I was browsing Microsoft web-site, when I saw something like "Transfer your settings from XP to Vista" or something like that. Just browse Microsoft site for answers, because I am sure I saw it.
